Can we do another one of these? I need to have a clear out but have no idea how the chairty shop would feel about me donating bloomers and corsets!

They'd probably look at you a little funny, then proceed to put the bloomers in the fancy dress basket and the corsets in the 'I have no idea how much to charge for this, so we'll either ask £5 or £150 depending on how I'm feeling today' pile.

Seriously, charity shops even though they are run by batty old women are becoming even more erratic in their pricing structure. They especially have no idea at all about gents stuff. I found a leather jacket in one the other day that they were asking £40 for. It wasn't a name, nor was it particularly nice, just a generic late 80's early 90's style, run of the mill zipped leather jacket.

Oh for a return to the days when everything was £2.50

Yes Yes Yes...I have some stuff I can part with too ...though I would sooner have them in the posession of a steampunker knowing they would be put to better use than any other. I have a few unwanted accessories, garments and bits 'n' bobbies that could be used for object d'art/builds etc that I have acquired up here. I seem to have got this habit of buying random tat for cheap and thinking later in what to do with it....and so I have accumulated a good pile of junk....one mans crap, is another man's treasure.

We must do this again indeed!

We did indeed discuss doing another one of these, possibly in November... are people free/ interested?
We also had a possible option of a different venue in East Mids, which would be free, but would likely allow people to punknic indoors rather than having to buy food...

oooh I'm up for one especially in the East Midlands! And I totally agree with Charity Shops, they are getting extremely greedy! Oakham is particularly bad with some goods selling for more than they cost in the first place (I am thinking TK Maxx and even Primark here!)
when you think that they don't pay rates and most of their staff work for nothing, plus all the goods are donated and very rarely cleaned before they go on the shelves, then it's a real rip-off!

You are best off with the little charities that are more 'down at heel' - there used to be a lovely scouts one in Corby, sadly closed now, where things really were a bargain!

November/December is a bit nuts for us, tbh. Although if you're thinking of East Midlands, Snibston are planning an undies talk on (I think) 19th, so it could perhaps be combined?

I am not sure Snibson would like us trading on their premisis- as it was swapping and neogtiating rather than jut swapping!

I would love to go to another one, November is a possibility, though sometime in Feb might be better- the dark months with nothing to look forward to ...

Yes, I think availability this side of Christmas may prove to be a bigger stumbling block than I'd originally expected.  What would people prefer?
 - a swap in say October or November (no point in considering December, I think there's a steampunk outing every weekend!).  Pros:  soon! Cons: people doing other stuff
 - a swap in Jan/ Feb (Pros:  fewer events on, a cheap outing when everyone is broke after Xmas.  Cons:  Longer to wait.  Bad weather possibility?

I'm not thinking of Snibston as a venue, there are other options... and if all else fails, there was nothing too bad about Revolution in Birmingham...

only bad thing is that driving in Brum scares the bejeezus out of me!!!!

I vote Jan/ Feb-I know I am very busy throughout October, and November is booking up, as is December!

Cheesy We're planning a holiday for sometime Jan/Feb, and the w/e of 5th Feb is definitely out as we have a meeting with a Bishop* Cheesy
But you just need to pick a date & hope that most people can make it.

Mimsy - I think we had that conversation driving you back to the station last time - we can sort something out this time I'm sure (assuming dates fit).  Cheesy

I am sure we can find dates that suit a majority! Yeah I HATE Brum with a passion! I have to go on a course in October, awaiting to see where it is in the city! Hoping it is near a station!

Depending on numbers and details and stuff I can volunteer our house for the clothes swap.

Plenty of parking, quite a bit of space inside - assuming it's not much bigger than last time.
No booking fee, and a free bar - assuming people bring their own drinks.

I'm just throwing it out there as an idea.

I might even be able to get the butler monkey to order a pizza or three.

It's near Ryton on Dunsmore, south of Coventry, near to TORM if any re-enactors know the place.

Some of you may already know my son Merlin (he is Typhonatemybaby on here but hasnt posted in yonks) from the 3 Asylums (asyla???) we have been to. He is now in Birmingham learning to make clocks and I would think would be likely to be keen on a clothes swap event.

He'd be more than welcome- tell him about the November Nocturne too!

I would love to get involved with a steampunk clothes swap.

Anytime would be fine, but Jan/Feb would be better- give me a chance to dispose of all the things I've outgrown with Christmas weight gain!

Birmingham would be ideal for me, if not would have to be somewhere easily accessable by public transport =]

That's a very kind offer, Rob.
The biggest difficulty would be that a lot of people come by public transport, and wouldn't be able to get there. Also, it may be bigger than last time- we talked of widening it to be an 'anything steam related' swap...

Darkshines is a mind reader-I was going to offer to have a pace around leicester and see if I could find somewhere. But, I think the vodka reveutions was a really big space and easy to get to from the train station both things are very very valuable. Also, I remember trinity trash mentioning a venue possiblity last time we did this?
November is soon, and this is exciting, these two things are good.

I might try making things to tempt the negoitated swappers with....
...if we do it november we could hold it before the nottingham tea party and test drive cakes and biscuits

Am I right in thinking as far as any trading goes their was somthing of a "what the eye doesn't see" to it at the birmingham event?

Hi all,

Don't worry about the venue, whether it's B'ham or otherwise, I do have options.

The first thing is to agree when- ie, which side of Xmas. Then I can finalise where.

...and as for trading- it was really just a swap. Some people swapped different things to others...
