I was disappointed to see that the projected Rowland Emett website rowlandemett.com/ has not cme to anyting yet. But I have found a selection of old films about the great mans creations on the British Pathe Website.Possibly best known to some for creating the caraticus potts inventions from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Rowland Emett, the cartoonist, Kenetic sculptor and mad inventer, has to be a contender for the steampunk hall of fame.

Very nice Mr.Addams, well found. In the '60s during my first 'foreign' holiday to Benidorm, we met one of Emett's constructors on the same trip - interesting man as you would be right to assume. Then a couple of years ago, I saw an homage to Emett's "Far Tottering and Oystercreek Railway" at a narrow gauge model railway exhibition. His spirit lingers on and not just in the hearts and mind of steampunk.

There's a smashing ceramic mural by Emett on the wall of the NCP carpark in Hemel Hempstead, have a look if you're ever passing through. And, oddly enough, trying to find it via Google led me back to the last Emett thread on Brass Goggles where I typed exactly the same thing... ...and the mural is slap in the middle of this Pathe video, in the list that Mr. Addams' has linked to: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=703

I have loved Emett's stuff since earliest childhood as we had all the books. sadly they disappeared at some point and I have never been able to replace them. 'Antony&Antimacassar' was a great favourite.

He's never had the recognition he deserved: look at Charles Addams, he's had several retrospective exhibitions and collections in the States, the New Yorker cartoons are considered art in their home country, but our great cartoonists are treated like they have no merit.
Emett needs a lavish coffee table book full of his cartoons and colour plates of his machines!

So true - another project for Arkwright?. It should have a disc in the back with film extracts, as Oliver Postgates autobiog does.

I remember a fair few years ago reading about the Warley Model Railway Club building a 'new' Far Twittering & Oysterperch layout (there had been one in the 1970s, and a new member of the club found some of the stock in an attic, and things just went from there).
If I recall correctly, one of the stations was named 'Fumbling Next The Groyne'....
I'll see if I can find the article later if anyone is interested....

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

I have posted this video elsewhere, but classics bear repeating. A collaboration born in heaven, a meeting between Rowland Emett, and Professor Stanley Unwin. - Deep Joy.
Professor Unwin: These are the top. These are the not DNA molecubes which is show the genetic fundamold...produce the human specie. As Roland said....the quarter wavelength rotaty huffalode.....srrrffffwh.....give forth explody most the half PNV(?) squarethie. But I heard you say that was a rotaty wegwhisker? Michael Parkinson: That's right. This one down here. Professor Unwin: No, Deep folly! Deep folly! No! No! That is really. It gets the electron in a great messhot. So that when they get up that great velocispeed of theirs. The flazmathrocus... gurggrgurggg..... says....water cool reaction throbs.....pssstt......great splodiode. But this is the beautyfold! And I can't find words to express what is a thru dimensional golden tender hook proves its worth of the human beel. Because it goes back to John Logey Baird for he's got his first inspirail of the televisualhold as we know it in our own eyefolder. Oh yes! Thirty line per cent itself which is great (?)...as you know .Oh, yes. Michael Parkinson: Of course.....Yes...... Professor Unwin: Now about the hormone. The hormone? Michael Parkinson: Yes..... Professor Unwin: Exponential thrume! Right? Michael Parkinson: Yes...Professor Unwin: Now.....instead of the sound coagulate there with smoke and get the wax in your own eardrobes...so you get that ......lovely picture thru dimensional...... Michael Parkinson (Knowingly): Yes...of course Professor Unwin:..... As pet ratio of thrube. So, I'm not saying the inspirail is of deepest possible joy for the future both televisualhold and for the whole world as far as you can stretch it. Michael Parkinson: Could you explain that better, Roland? Professor Roland: I couldn't put it better myself. It explains everything. What did you say?
