Hey Steampunks!!!! READ THIS! Joe Benitez (Creator/Writer/Illustrator) of Lady Mechanika has emailed me to let me know about a contest he is having in the back of Lady Mechanika Issue #1 (as well as to ask me if I'd like to be drawn in issue#3 or #4 as Siryn von Steam!! Being a huge comic book geek I'm so incredibly excited about this and very honored! ) He asked me if I'd spread the word to my fellow Steampunks so here it is: Here are the words in the book: "Hey Lady Mechanika and Steampunk fans! Prepare yourselves for a rare chance to enter the thrilling world of comic books - literally! Now that you've read issue one, find out more news on how YOU can "attend" the 'Mechani-Con', and earn the chance to be drawn into the pages of Lady Mechanika! Visit AspenComics.com and facebook.com/AspenComics facebook.com/LadyMechanika facebook.com/JoeBenitezArt" AWESOME!!

that's all the info he gave me on where the contest info was. I found this info in the back of #1 and retyped it here. I'm thinking they want you to watch those pages for news releasing the info of the contest.

Excellent news. Hopefully he'll get the contest information up soon and I'll let the local group know. Quite exciting when someone with that talent wants to immortalize some of the fans. One of the reasons I do so enjoy his work.

The concept of incorporating a fans name or physical characteristics into a character in a book or comic is known as Tuckerization, after the SF author Wilson Tucker who did this for friends and family. I myself won a Tuckerzsation in a David Devereux book a few years ago.
A well known Tuckerization is that of SF fan Tobes de Valois who ended up Tuckerized in Robert Rankin's novel The Brightonomicon (which has steampunk elements including a statue of Queen Victoria which weeps tears of Earl Grey, a subterranean Bathysphere and a giant steampowered killer robot) as the last descendant of Jesus Christ. Those of us who know Tobes found this immensely humourous, he is an immensely improbable saviour of mankind.

Now that the deadline has come and gone... Does anyone know if they are going to inform those whose photos have been chosen, or will they surpirse everyone when the issue comes out?

Honestly I don't know. I haven't heard from Joe since before the contest was posted and he asked me if he could draw me in the issue. I could email him and ask?

I must admit I'm curious because I sent in photos of myself and my daughter and would love to know if we can expect to see ourselves in the upcoming issue (....I didn't tell her I sent in her photo - it would be a surprise). Thank you kindly.
