When I clicked the position button it put them in this order, though it doesn't seem the correct order. If there is anyone who has climbed the ranks, and remembers the order, who would like to take some of their valuable time to let us peons know what order we can expect, it would be greatly appreciated.

Reverse alphabetical is a perfectly cromulent order.  I wish I could help with the temporal order, but I only have a pretty near photographic memory, and that list was neither pretty nor was it near a photograph.

Some of those ranks are 'off the books', not attainable by mere BG membership time as they make certain the machinery and minions remain in proper operational order. markf.

The 'Immortal' bit I got for being here far, far too much; the 'Gadgeteer, Contraptionist, and Inventor' I added myself (it's a 'perk' of being a moderator, you can add your own subtitle to your rank), the Victorian Steampunk Society made me a Fellow at the Asylum Convivial in September, so that had to go there too, and I'm also a 'Governor' on the moderating team.

So a little bit of application, and a little bit of hyperbole!

Unless you are steaming up the line tender first on a windy day trying to look out for the signals. Then the goggles come in to their own stopping you from getting coal dust and smuts in your eyes. 'With my goggles on' I don't get red sore eyes!

I personally liked it when the ranks switched from post count to... you know, I don't really know what the mechanism is now.  All I know is I got to where I am through my habitual lurking.

I believe there was mention of this before and there are certain 'protections' to stop that. Long periods of inactivity may negate the time recorded.

Anyway, why worry? If you spend enough time here you'll soon get a new rank. I'd personally like to pick my own rank. 'Suspected Deserter' or 'Guerilla Spy' maybe?

I sure hope not... I logged about 2 hours today, but only because I logged on while at work and had to walk away from the computer several times. I noticed the timer, but every forum I belong to (other than BG) the rank goes up with legitimate posts, or at least nonsensical posts in legitimate forums. Never seen one rune by time spent.

I don't think it operates by time logged in, because in fact, although BG isn't always on my screen, and sometimes my computational machine is not even powered up, I have never actually logged out.  Whenever I pull it up, I'm already there. If it were based solely on that, I would have years and years of time accumulated by now.

This has actually been covered a few times in the engine room section.

It's time based, yes, but not on time logged. It's based on time actively reading/searching through the forum. So you can leave it logged in and on, but your timer won't move in relation to that. It's ACTIVE forum usage that moves your timer. Thus, the lurkers get rank.

I believe Immortal is over Rogue Aetherlord and takes twice the active time to qualify which is why only one so far exists.
