[sarcasm] Well, it's not all bad, since the plastic is probably recyclable and hence doubles duty as garbage bags or soda bottles in a second life [/sarcasm] Cheesy

That's not the point, it's all about Demand en Supply. Obviously the manufacturers can afford to give it that price, because there is sufficiant demand. Or not so many supply. Eather way, they are making a proffit and giving people a glance of the world of Steampunk/Vampires/Goth/Pirates/whatever.

Being in the custom cruiser bicycle scene, I've seen that there are some manifacturers tagging along the "hype" of custom cruisers. Brands like Johnny Loco are for the general public just fine, but to a bicycle customiser it's just another standard, stock bike. But it sells. Some people ride a Johnny Loco for the fun of it, some to make some sort of statement and some love the looks of that sort of bikes so much, it becomes a hobby. Moving from a "stock" cruiser-like-bike to something more professional. But you've gotta start somewhere.

I don't see the problem in making a proffit, using a strong growing affection towards Steampunk of the "mainstream". Us Steampunkers all know it looks silly and the plastic crap is inferiour to our homemade gear. One thing is bothering me and that is the crossover SP/Vamp/Goth/Pirates/... If you were not familiar with the concept of Steampunk, you would be misinformed. Name it like it is, Steampunk OR Vampire OR Goth Or whatever. It's less confusing and more educational to the public.

I find the fact almost everything listed to be "sold out" to be particularly unsetting - it raises the idea that one of us might run into these mass-fabricated horrors out on the street someday.

Or there may not be so many manifactured. Remember, Demand en Supply. A sold out item might be wanted more because it is not available at this time. A bit of reverse psycology (was that spelled correctly?)

Costumeless or with half a costume? Quite cheeky if you ask me, but I don't think anyone would mind? Would be a bit awkward but hey, who are we to judge?

"ridiculously amateur" ??

My dear, we are all amateurs here.  I don't think we have more than a handful of "professional" Steampunks in the world.

This is a new sub-culture.  We are still making this all up as we go along.  Go, have fun, and if anyone gives you a hard time you can send them over to our table.  We will deal with the reprobate.

Mind you fairs fair. I mean we've been putting up with these for quite a while. I'm sure they have been mentioned before, but just a reminder.

And they really are God awful (I think anyway) and just look at the price of em!

Surely you should be able to see out of at least one of the lenses? Kind of defeats the point of 'goggles' if you cover the lenses with so much crap they can't be viewed through?
