Thermals, top and bottom; thick warm socks and gloves (keep those extremities warm), and a hat/headwear is essential. Then as Ladie Elsie said, it's all about layers. Trapping air between lots of thin layers is much more efficient than one thick layer. Then again, I'm looking across at my Irvin WW2 flying jacket that is getting a fair bit of use at the mo. Keep toasty, folks!

Warm base layer then lots of other layers on top. Boots with thermal insoles. A large hip flask with Sloe Gin to fortifie between mulled wine stops. The usual supplies to take out on an Artic exploration this time of year.

Just a quick update - we currently have 4 - 6" of snow on the ground and it's still falling! The city centre isn't too bad, but the smaller side roads and hills are interesting..... needless to say I'm sure the council will do everything in it's power to ensure the market goes ahead as it's such a big money puller for the city. Really undecided about what to wear now. I really wanted to have my visite and muff ready, but I don't think it's going to happen somehow  Ladies, can I ask what your plans are? I'm tempted by full skirt and petticoat with the train pinned up, but the hem would still get wet. Could go for a shorter full skirt and risk cold legs, but I really don't know  IS THERE ANYONE WHO STILL WANTS TO STAY OVER AT THE WEEKEND? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.  Thanks |

I have a long coat with a Victorian sort of look about it which I will steam up with a steamy coggy belt and a red top hat with goggles. ok people, we now have over a foot of snow just outside Lincoln and we are unable to get into the city for work. traffic ground to a halt last night and journeys of only a few miles took hours- even after 8pm when we left.
the council says the market is still going ahead and they are attempting to make it 'safe'.
more snow is forecast throughout this evening :-/
you're all still welcome to come over, but i can't promise we will even make it to the market.....

Nobody's got stuck in the snow getting there, and had to eat their own leg to survive (yet), so advance warning is better than no warning A round of applause to Scott and Joanna for organising it anyway, it's not your fault it's been cancelled!  (shame though, as the bottle of bubbly from Skip has just arrived on my desk - so I'll have to deliver it at "some point in the future"...) |

That's a shame, I was hoping for a last minute decision and to be able to meet you all. Completely understandable though as my horseless carriage is under some 14" of snow. Good effort though chaps. There will be something else soon enough. |

Dear Chaps and Chapettes, It seems that it is ' not to be ' that we all meet and get aquainted. The forces that govern the weather are obviously working at full steam! Lady Joanna and Scott have indeed put a lot of effort into things. Lady Joanna - we don't now have to worry about our attire do we?  When it is 'yard-arm' time we shall certainly partake of the fruits of Lady Wine, Lord Whisky and anything else the gods/goddesses might throw our way! Very disappointed as I've been looking forward to this for weeks, but at least the house is looking festive and I can look out at the most amazing snow fall I've ever seen Elishiva, I've still started work on my visite so I can grace the snow with style |

I think our general concensus will be 'no', Major since the car will likely still be snowed in and if we can't make it to work then it will be frowned upon to try and reach a hostelry on the otherside of town  The pictures on the news showed the market all half set up and there was a German stall holder who'd payed 10,000 Euros to be here and import a load of wine to sell  . This is going to be such a blow for the city, but consider, the next event in Lincoln comparable in scale will be our own Asylum!!!!! |

They estimate the cancelation will cost the local economy arournd 10 million pounds... and that was just for a weekend in one B&B Baddum tish! Pretty dissapointed about the cancellation, I was hoping to come up for a day and plunder the drinkie stalls  |
