I'm in Rexburg, Idaho, but travel to SLC and Utah County to visit friends.  Is there anyone in the area?

Well, we're in that little crotch of Montana that sets in the stovetop of the stovepipe of Idaho - 90 miles north of Salmon.

Hehehe!

Wonderful you guys.  That's still a lot of driving, but it's good to know I'm not the only Steampunk-interested human being out here.

Are you comfortable stating approximately where in the general vicinity, InTheDark?

That would be a bit of a drive for me, but next time we're headed that way, I'll see if I can't pop you a message!

I live in Northern Utah.
It seems that there are a fair amount of people here interested in steampunk
but not many who actually do much with it.  I would like to see the community here grow.

Maybe because there aren't really any Creative outlets in this state. and the Aggressive bias towards giving good Jobs to your fellow Church members over Qualified individuals has left many of the more artistic people in this state without the funds to spend hundreds or thousands on fashion that will go largely unappreciated and mocked?

I am slightly offended that you would assume that I am a "church member" not everyone in Utah is LDS and I certainly am not.
otherwise, I agree with you. Utah really doesn't support creativity and different forms of thinking. Not a place I plan on spending
my entire life in.

I'm Offended you Assumed I assumed you were Mormon, I assume that your Assumptions about my assuming are rather narrow and based only on your assumption that I post with good grammar.

I now Assume you are the one with a greater Number of Assumptions on this topic.

ah, assumptions can lead to so many places. Anyway, I was simply going by the way your sentence was phrased. I will try to avoid assuming in the future. But regardless of any assumptions that have been made, Utah could use a more steampunk friendly atmosphere.

Someone needs to organize some sort of steampunk event in Utah. Though I have no clue how to go about doing something like that...

I say book a venue/fairground.  create a facebook page for an event. promote it heavily. get sponsors during the early stages of promotion.

book bands

so on.. so on...

Problem being, again. that there is not a lot of people here that can contribute to such a thing. even less in terms of musicians...

Indeed. I was considering holding some sort of event on campus at SLCC Redwood campus(which is where Anime Banzai was originally held), but I do wonder what kind of events could be arranged, and how many people would actually be interested. . . it will take much thought and planning.

I don't have a lot of money. but if you wanted help with this... I'd be all about being part of this.

despite the fact that I generally possess not a single item of clothing that is steampunk.

I actually dig the DieselPunk Aesthetic.... like... A LOT.

That would be cool. I am also short on money, but if enough people get involved, that shouldn't be too big of a problem. I'll start thinking of ideas. Also, I don't really think that the clothing is that big of a deal anyway. some people dress steampunk, some don't. And DieselPunk is cool too.

I'm more in the Art side of it.

though I do a lot of Prop stuff. when money permits.

that being said. I needs me a sewing machine. Diesel/steam fashion is so hard to find!

Which I guess is the point... XD!

Indeed, I quite enjoy various artistic activities myself, not that I am particularly good at arts.
I also need to obtain a sewing machine. Sewing everything by hand can be quite difficult.
Also, I was thinking that if a steampunk event were to be held at a park, rather than an actual venue,
it would save large amounts of money, as most parks are free to reserve. . .

to hold an event, you need Event Insurance. permits, liscences and waivers need to be put in place.

now. a "Meet-Up" does not require those things. but business and Festivities cannot take place. no wares exchanged. no band booked.
