I've obviously come very late to this thread, though I've been popping in and out of the site for the last few years...so without ploughing through the 12 pages of corsetry I don't know if this lady has been mentioned yet.
http://www.rosenkavalier.co.uk/wytephantom/wytephantom1.htm
She also has a fb page. Not only is she a friend, she's also the creator of some of the most delicious bespoke outfits involving corsetry that I've ever seen.

Well I for one think she's being daft. The problem is, I can't just trick her into buying one because - well it'd ruin the surprise.
Anyone able to tell me what I need to know to get one for her that fits? What measurements I need to know, etc?
Also any suggestions where to get a decent one? I know it must sound odd but I think she should have the confidence to wear it!

I don't want to butt into your private business, and I know this is an old post, but I think you'd better think twice about buying your wife a corset she says she doesn't want to wear.  I don't know her at all, but I think you run a real risk of sending the wrong message doing something like that.

Ack........Every time you post they are having a sale...I end up buying one!  Smiley Not gonna do it this time, though.  NO, NO, NO.

(The last one I got was really very pretty, though, black and red brocade to go with an old skirt of a bridesmaid dress I'm re-purposing, so, thanks)  The quality for the price is really good.

edit: OH, NO.  They are the steamy corsets...I'm just going to send my paycheck to them.

Random info-- Was wandering around on their site and found some real numbers about the curviness of the corsets! The waist trainers are 8" bigger than the waist at the bust, and 10" bigger than the waist at the hip. So that's a definite no to them fitting me, but hope it helps some of you ladies.

Aside from being cut to allow more compression around the waist, the waist trainers, I gather, are also rather more strongly engineered so as to be able to take the additional pressure. They may have more bones too.

Eeee, my two new Steampunk corsets from them ought to arrive any time from now until say Monday, depending on how quickly they got sent out. SO EXCITED. Eeee!

I'm in love with Corset-Story.  I can't look away.  This is going to be BAD.   Shocked

Orchardcorset.com is having a sale as well.  I have their underbust brown leather one and it's nice.

I have just finished the second of my major MCM Expo cosplay pieces (the first being a large rifle); an unboned suede and brocade corset/bodice for our lovely mechanic:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For my first attempt at corsetry, I'm very pleased.

Better pictures will be around at the end of the month when the matching bustle and plasma pouch are finished.

I think your lining is a lovely contrast to the leather.

May I give you a tip about the lacing?  corsets should have a 2 inch gap all the way down the back.  This is so that when you pull on the lacing you get a bit of tension all the way round.  This then modifies your silhouette and smooths all the feminine curves you have.  If you do not get that tension you have made more of a waistcoat than a corset.

But whatever, I can see that you have put a lot of work into this.  I am sure that you will enjoy wearing it.

Thanks, the lining was a last minute addition because they had some brocade on display in the fabric shop.

As for enjoying wearing it; I certainly won't, but hopefully my girlfriend will.

The lacing is basically decorative: I made the pattern by wrapping her in tape to the desired degree and cutting it off, so the stiff suede panels give all the shaping she needs and give the amount of constriction she wanted.

Oh Ooops.  Sorry about mixing up the genders.

However I have put my corsets on men - and they looked lovely.  A well-fitting corset will create an uplifted bust-line on all but the most skinny person.  Since the idea is to re-distribute the body fat, everything fat-wise that was under the corset area is now squished upwards and downwards, thus curves are created where there were no curves previously.  The major skill is to do this and also for the garment to be comfortable to wear all day long.

Sorry, I'm a little unclear.  Is this thread about corset makers or corset making or all sorts of corsetry topics?

The information on suppliers is interesting, of course, but budget and fingers that itch to make things and a desire for extra customization means I'm more interested in the nuts and bolts of fabricating corsetry than where good ones can be found.  Although it's always good to know where good ones can be found.

Like, I saw a post very early on this thread asking about a good thread to use, and I don't know if it was ever answered.  I would recommend waxed linen thread if one is willing to handsew to an insane degree, because it's strong and tough as iron but cannot be used in a sewing machine.  Otherwise I would recommend silk thread, which is also strong and tough as iron, but is expensive.  Cotton is not strong enough to hold together a corset.  For sewing leather I recommend waxed linen or (because the chemicals used to tan leather can rot natural fibers) polyester.

A pox on those of you who have mentioned Corset Story sales! (and you know who you are!!!!) My resolve finally weakened and I checked out their web site. Well, my two grown daughters and I pooled our resources and ordered four corsets less than a week ago, and two arrived today. We have yet to try them on, but they look mighty fine indeed. I hope you are happy.... Wink

People are just plain Mean, aren't they?  It's the Canadians!  Would you post some pictures of what you got when you can, Lady T?  I ordered this one almost 3 weeks ago and am dying for it to arrive.

...And Crescat Scientia...I think this thread is a bit of all of your guesses.  Some of the ladies and gentlemen on the forum sew just beautifully, so they post their corset ideas/advice, etc here.  I do not, so the only thing I can add is an "Oh that is lovely".  It is good to know who's got bargains available, though, so we post excellent ways to spend your paycheck here, as well.  Once again, I think it's the Canadians!  Smiley

Oh dear.  Cheesy And here am I, a Canadian, once again posting about excellent ways to spend your paycheques...

I truly am sorry, they've got sales on every week and I really have been trying to not spam the list, but this week they've got a bunch of corsets on sale for about $45 or so (some of them less)-- including a few from their Steampunk line for $55, down from their regular $165.

I'm sorry! I know, I know! But it's Steampunk, and so damned cheap...  Tongue

A local shop is getting rid of their ordinary clothes and jewellery to concentrate on bridal wear.  I bought a couple of Chinese-made corsets for £10 each which I plan to steam-punk up.

Anyone found anything cheaper?

I am in need of a custom (tactical) corset, and looking for someone to order it from. Suggestions?

Needs to be in leather, preferably on the stiff side.
Needs to fit my body shape.  I am very short-waisted, so off-the-shelf corsets don't fit.
Needs to be longer on the sides than usual, and end in holsters.  Which means it won't have the standard point in the front.  (I can send a holster pattern.)
I'll be using it for a variety of settings, from Steampunk to SASS.  So the fixtures need to have the correct aesthetic.

My goal is to get rid of the gun belt I currently have to use in SASS.  I've looked at the Tactical Corset company website, and theirs have too modern a look.

I have some knowledge of sewing, but this is WAY beyond my skill level.  Suggestions of who to talk to are much appreciated.

Godsdamnit! I wrote a massive post, and the internet ate it! Basically I am struggling to put eyelets in pleather, they are just tearing out. I think I am doing it wrong. Does anyone have a tutorial or step by step pictorial of how to put eyelets in? I was using the cheap ones with the white plastic tool you hit with a hammer?
