The quality is amazing; quilted lining, adjustable tassel, antiqued brass top vents, quality embroidery etc. You'll see it up at Whitby if you're there.

adjustable tassel Adjustable how? Can you pull it long or short like on a venician blind cord? When you pull it does your trouser leg go up?

As I'm unlikely to be doing a dervishly whirl at my age (well not without falling over) I am going to have to trim the tassle on my fez..it got on my nerves at Asylum ..tickling my neck and going in my eyes. I should really post a pic of my fez in this thread... So here's me and The Countess looking very serious at Asylum

Not sure if this'll work, but I made Lady Jane a miniature electric fez for the Asylum, the tassel rotates one way and then the other very slowly around the fez, which amazed Mr. B, Gentleman Rhymer: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150382337650429&l=0757baeb2e

I hardwired my tassel. or to be more specific, I made my tassel out of copper wire and bailing wire. very easy to make actually. the next time I thing I will wrap the top of the tassel with the bailing wire for contrast and braid the cord with the bailing wire and the copper wire even the minions got theirs too making a little fez is fairly easy too. just a strip of felt with a slow curve to it (straight isn't too bad really) and a disk of felt. sew the strip around the disk but leave a tab where you start so when the strip comes all the way back to the start, you can sew a side seam. sew it with a slight taper if you are using a straight strip, so the hat will bell out a little at the bottom. turn it right side out and cut a strip of thin cardboard or card stock to add to the inside. cut it with a slight curve and the felt can stretch a bit. slide it inside the hat and hold it so that it supports the felt tightly. mark it so you can take it out and set it to the same size diameter. you can either glue it to itself or cut it to length and butt tape the ends. slide it back into the cap and tuck the extra felt at the bottom edge back inside the cap and then hot glue it to the inside of the cardboard. its easy if you don't overplan, just cut away any cardboard or felt that doesn't look like a fez~!

Speaking as a Shriner, we Nobles of the Mystic Shrine call more than one fez, fezzes. I read somewhere that during the Ottoman Empire the red fez was the Eastern equivalent of the Western black silk tophat. Wearing the fez was outlawed in Turkey to sever all cultural ties with the Ottomans, when Ataturk overthrew the last of the sultans. Here is a photo of me with my Shrine fez, steam shades, and steampunk goggles up top : Scenario for a steampunk story: The Freemasons took over the Ottoman Empire.... Dr. Nautilus

oh dear, another world running conspiracy! hopefully they do a better job than the moose and rotary club did. I think the open bar policy was their downfall.
the hat pins are home made, I still haven't made a mold of either one. the gold paint isn't really all that bright. I should hit them with some black shoe polish but that can really make trouble with RTV mold media later.

Not that fond of the fez, but I do have my GGFather's silk velvet embroidered smoking cap - it is so cool that I am going to make a replica for everyday wear.
