I know this is a film which holds a special place in the hearts of many UK steampunks and I have just noticed that it is going to be screened tommorrow (Sunday) at 2.55 on Channel 4. Chance once again to see Sir Sidney Ruff Diamond use the Third Foot and Mouth to thwart the machinations of the Khasi of Kalabar and no doubt launch a hundred new quotes, puns and gags.
Would it be too sad if I chose to watch it in my kilt and pith helmet? Probably yes but it simply serves to show respect don't you think?

Absolutely not! It would be the ideal viewing dress code, I can't think of anything more perfect, particularly if you have a camp chair and crate of IPA close to hand.

With tomorrow likely to be the hottest day of the year so far I think watching this whilst wearing a kilt would be a most sensible thing to do as long as you have the electric fan correctly positioned. I believe I may use the occasion to indulge in a mild curry and some cold libations.

I have scheduled this film as my film of choice to slowly fall asleep to.Not in a disrespectful way, its just that time of day and as it going to be bloomin hot I can see my eyes closing rather quickly.I usually fall asleep to Columbo which annoys me immensly coz I really like it.
I say wear what you like.Question is, are you going to wear the kilt in the way that will scare the enemy?

We had idly speculated about having an interactive screening of "Carry On Screaming" on the Sunday evening at The Asylum, "frying tonight" "Dan, Dan the lavatory man""Rubbertiti" etc, with people making noises and gestures as appropriate.
An evening of high culture.

Agreed, although I think Screaming goes to no 1 simply because of "foul, feet, smell, ooh something 'orrible"

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

How sad. I've moved the spare TV so that I can see it from where the computer is positioned. This is a true unifying moment in British Steampunk history. Curry's warming up and the beers are cold.

I'd forgotten about the gamophone record playing machine gun, now that is steampunk. Dinner party scene to look forward to.

I think that when we get around to making up the test "Are you secretly steampunk?" one question will have to be "do you like Carry On Screaming and Carry On Up The Khyber?". A predisposition to these two films does seem to be a clear indicator of steaminess.
I wonder though what the Americans would make of it?

There is hope for our colonial cousins after all, the importation of high culture.
The proper companion piece to Khyber, which is the perfect examination of colonial relations, is Carry On Screaming, which contains Herr Docktors all time favourite femme fatale, Fenella Fielding, why at this very moment in his lab, Herr Doktor is trying to make an Auton Replica of her..... Come to think of it that is pretty much the plot, making living plastic.

Carry On Up the Khyber! Love that movie! The Khazi of Khalibar, Bungdhit Din and his Bhurpas, and the Immortal Sid James as Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond! "Fakir - off!"
