Resistance is futile!!  Very well done!  I for one would love a little tutorial about applying that kind of prosthetic if you were of a mind.  Thanks for the pictures.

Not many of you may know that I dabble in the area of stage make-up. So for the few who did know and keep asking me to post, I have a few steamy make-up photo's to share.

The first couple are from the December "Steam-Up", an event that happens every month, and I thought I would try something new. This took me about an hour and a half to put on. I did do step by step photos of this so I can later post a tutorial on how to do it along with a list of all the products I used. The idea is that I have a metal plate under my skin and have suffered some kind of damage to my cheek and now all my gears are showing. How terrible to show ones gears in public!

A little of my actual outfit with the make-up slightly hidden.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A close up shot of the actual make-up. I am super happy how the rivets turned out!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The next set is a piece I made at my work as a removable prosthetic. As a removable prosthetic I can take this off and then later put it back on whenever I like. It saves time down the road when doing this type of make-up. I don't have to glue the gears on each and every time. This took me about half an hour to do and used an amazing product called 3rd Degree.

Me looking quite shocked I have gears growing out of my forehead.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A close up of the prosthetic. I was going for an "infected" look with the skin tone around the gears. I think I managed it fairly well.

Cheers,

Hey, what a cool concept, and a very nice execution! As a (trained but not employed lol) sfx makeup artist myself, may I say that I particularly admire your blending on that last picture! I know how tricky it is to get the edges blended properly, and that it holds up so well at such a high resolution and so close in is a testament to your skills! Bravo!

The timing on your post is kind of amusing; I've just been wishing I could get my hands on some mortician's wax. But I kind of don't want to go bothering my local funeral parlours ha ha, and I'm about 6 hours' drive from a decent makeup supply store. :/ --Have you ever worked with mortician's wax? Found out about it because one of my fellow trainees had an aunt in the business. Wonderful stuff! Once you try it you will never go back to nose putty ever again. XD

Me, I'd love to try out the new techniques with silicon casting. It started to take off just after I completed my training (which was quite a while ago, in the early '90s, so I'm kind of out of date) and the results they're getting with it, the slight translucence to it, are amazing!

3rd Degree is a silicone, and I must say I am falling very much in love with it. Normally I use Ben Nye Flesh Effects for most of my prosthetics, but then once you remove it you have to garbage it. It's nice to work with something that I can take off and and re-apply again. I have worked with morticians wax, as well as the nose wax from Ben Nye. I don't mind them, but I find I don't get as real a look as I would like. Perhaps I need more practice with them. If you ever need fx make-up supplies, Don's Hobby Shop in Calgary had pretty much all you need. Check them out sometime, they have it all on their website, www.donshobbyshop.ca. It's where I get everything I use!

Sweet!!

There's a really good chance that if I'm not a lot closer to the makeup supply store I usually use (Act One in Vancouver, which tends to be a bit pricey but well-stocked) within hte next year-and-a-half, then I'll be in Alberta, up in Cold Lake. So it's good to have at least one supply store in the province! Calgary will be a bit of a haul but no further than I am currently from Vancouver, at least! Smiley

Also: I like the Ben Nye stuff. It's a very good quality. Ha ha, but I have to concentrate because I keep wanting to call it "Bill Nye" lol.

I like to learn make up but not to look damaged I want make me look 15 years younger I'm 25 I got a titanium half jaw that looks like a bike chain in rays I lost part of my jaw during my second battle with cancer.

From 25 to 10 is a bit steep to do, just because it's trying to go from a full adult to pre-pubescent and the proportions are all different. Far easier to do in Photoshop than with makeup, I'm afraid.

Hmm. That sounds like an interesting challenge! Can you stick things to it without gumming things up? Or is it tricky to keep clean? If you want to send me a pic I'd be happy to offer some advice! Smiley

One thing that may help just offhand is that while makeup doesn't stick well to scar tissue, it's an easy fix to get it to stick. First, lightly dab a very thin layer of castor oil over the scar tissue, then powder it. The makeup sticks to the powder, the powder sticks to the castor oil, and the castor oil sticks to scar tissue. So once the oil is on and powdered you can do your foundation over it as normal (although you may need to first do a layer in a different colour to balance the tones out if it's much redder or paler than the surrounding skin).

My goodness, Mr. Oakes, what a splendid vest! you quite put my own poor efforts to shame. Mind you, my outfit is more for tramping about the countryside in than for attending splendid masked balls, so I won't feel too put out. Wink

Here's Number One Son and me earlier this afternoon. He's looking disgruntled because his yet-to-be-properly-clothed little sister kept shoving her way into all the shots. He needs to work at keeping that chin up! Wink

I went to a christmas-themed picnic the other week, and managed to dig up one of the photos of me. Gosh it was hot that afternoon. I wish I hadn't worn my nice woollen trousers, as light a wool as they were.

Jemaine Clement? Yeah, I could see that. I wouldn't have picked it myself, but now that you mention it, it's hard not to see.

For wrinkles, try dabbing on a little bit of Preparation H (it shrinks the skin a bit and tightens it up, just don't get it in your eyes), and once it's dry just do your makeup over it.

Zits are a pain (I have them too) because of course they tend to stick out as well as be a different colour. Shrink them down a bit with an ice cube, then dab on a bit of a concealer. Use one with a slightly yellowish tinge to counteract the red. Blend the edges of the concealer onto your skin. I have a sample palette pack of greasepaint called "Tattoo Cover" that works really well. Not sure if it's still available or not. Alternatively, you can just dab on a little liquid or cream foundation, let it set for a few seconds to a minute (depending on the type) and then once you can do it without just smearing it off again, carefully smudge the edges so you don't end up with pale polkadots all over! Once the concealer is on, then powder it, and apply foundation over it as normal. If you're a guy then go with a very sheer, light foundation.

For pale skin, the best makeup I've found for it is a matte eyeshadow. Any kind of a liquid is a pig to get on smoothly and evenly, especially if you're just going for pale and not clownface, but eye shadow is designed to go on really smoothly and it's fantastic for just making you that bit (or a lot) more pale without cracking or smearing. I got teh tip from a Goth girl I ran into and used it for my 18th century costuming. You just have to get the matte stuff and not the frosted or metallic stuff. It can be a bit tricky to find, but it's worth the hunt.

So far as the acne goes, though, as someone who is still having teh stupid stuff into middle-age, it's worth talking to a doctor about (tetracyclin is wonderful stuff), or even the lady at your local makeup counter. Mine put me onto a great cleaning product and cream that has made a significant difference for me.

h, one other thing! 25 is a bit young for age-related wrinkles, so two things to try would be to make sure you're getting enough rest, and drink lots of water. Like, make sure you get two litres a day. I was in the hospital a couple of years ago and on a drip at 250 ml/hour, and holy cow. After three days I had amazing skin!! Even mild dehydration has a huge impact on skin elasticity, it ends up. One way to check is if your lips are feeling dry and chapped, you need to drink more.

Hope that helps!  Grin

(BTW I have a tiny head too. Hey! Cool! Just measured and I'm at 22" too! Small world! On me I think it's not really noticable though until I gain a bunch of weight. For Steampunk stuff I wear a Gibson twist and that seems to help haha. Mostly though I only notice it when I have to buy the kids' sized snorkelling masks lol.)

Your links appear to be broken in a strange sort of way... When I try to access the images directly, Photobucket displays the location of the image instead of the link location, and the AVI briefly blinks what I assume to be a small version of your image. Is your album perhaps friends-protected in a way that would prevent the images from showing?

If you are talking about the images I can see 3 of them in the original post (and I could when I first looked which was less than 10 minutes after it was posted), although when looking at the message as a quote I can see that the tags are slightly messed up so I am confused as to why I can see all three pictures.
