Oh I didn't know that was you.  I had a bunch of people ask if i saw you in that when I was wearing my gown with tentacles.  I bet that bright neon wouldnt get so washed out if I layered it with black tights over it.

Yep that was me. I was running between the lobby and the underpanty party. Tentacle dress! Too bad we didn't meet until that panel the next day. I think the color tights I got was kelly green.

Thank you all for the heartwarming words!

I like your coat1 May I askwhere you got it from?

The coat is selfmade by my creative mother. She has paper patterns of civil war soldier coats! We found them in a small store in Richmond.

I missed the tentacle dress, but that ensemble you wore to the ball was stunning! Cheesy

Oh nice I was wondering if the kelly green was as bright as my monitor showed it. I never can tell with this thing.
Polaris you didn't miss it it was what I wore to the ball complete with squid wrap for when my shoulders got cold.
Here is a photo from the official room that I just got.

Lovely dress, Stella.

And Joshtree, that ensemble - especially the coat - is fantastic! Wish my mom would make me a great coat like that (or that I could just find one so cool)

In the meantime, I must needs go jacketless: Here's me and the entire family dressed up in our still-in-progress steampunk ensembles for the local Dickens Faire. (Great place to shop: I came home with a terrific brown derby instead of the el cheapo top-hat I have here. I'll post pics of that at some point too.)

Ops! I meant I missed Wilhelmina's tentacle dress! Or swimwear, rather. Stella, your ball gown was beautiful! I saw it that evening and kicked myself for not thinking of it! Brilliant Idea!

Out of curiosity did anyone here take a photo of my striped dress? I had about a dozen people stop me, but I can't find the photos anywhere. :\

I am incredibly intrigued by those pants. They are the missing element in the outfit I'm trying to put together; I have a pattern I can use, so I'll have to be on the look out for a similarly striped fabric. Hmm...

How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Polaris try looking on facebook, flicker and here http://forums.teslacon.com/index.php/topic,176.0.html for some collected photos of the event you may see yourself.  Unfortunately I forgot I had a camera for most of the event so I only got a few shots.

Wilhelmina if you think you can work photo magic i would love to see it.  I am all thumbs when it comes to that unfortunately(it would certanly help my video game project if ms paint didn't mock me so.)

Wonderful sartorial forays by all in this thread, as usual! Smiley

Perhaps not entirely Steampunk, but for my school's Halloween party a month ago or so I dressed up as a Texas Ranger; and by that I mean I dressed up as a fancy gunslinger with a brass Ranger badge, lol.

All secondhand finds except for the plastic toy revolver I bought from the Halloween store (school didn't fancy the idea of me bringing my Colt Replica BB pistol, bah). I was thrilled to find a black leather hat with silver metal conchos around the hatband (not visible in this picture, alas), and finally made use of those metal-tipped black patent leather Western boots I found at the Salvation Army a few years ago - which were surprisingly comfortable to dance in!

Shots from the masquerade came in this weekend.  I finally have a picture to share.

Now I have to learn to add *personality* to my pictures.  I'm used to being behind the camera instead of in front of it.

As part of my steampunk Christmas activities the ladyfriends and I went to Colonial Williamsburg for the Grand Illumination this weekend. Perhaps a few decades anachronistic this time, but most excellent fun and an annual tradition to attend. What was suprising is that I had no less than 40 or so folks (and not all to them, but easily the majority, attractive young ladies in their 20s and 30s mind you!) remark "great top hat"!  Of course, competing with a plethora of tricorns (not to mention dinglebobber santa hats) is no small feat in itself.

Ah, alas, kind lady Victoria, there are unfortunately not for technical reasons. Both were quite actively imbibing in large mugs of hot cider (well laced with Kraken Rum, merely to add a touch of flavor, of course) to ward off the chill and damp that evening and claimed bad hair prohibitions against any publicly displayed iconography. I told them they needed better hats! Perhaps the photo ops at the next weekend's visit to the 1893 Victorian mansion will result in more acceptable results, hopefully some to incorporate into other examples as below where I have used one of the other photos and developed a mixed seasonal and steam themed Christmas card, to wit:
