Picked up my wife's old SLR camera and put in some 35mm film. It's a revueflex AC2 with a 50mm lens. After years of digital camera photography with all the fancy digital help and settings, it's back to basic. Before anyone asks "picks or it didn't happen", I've got 10 more pictures to take before the film is full. Than it's down to the photographer to have it developed. Takes about a week to send, develop and receive. I had my first reaction of "how many megapixel is that camera?".

Oooh that sounds interesting - must be simultaneously exciting and frustrating waiting to find out how your pictures turned out!
After many days of laziness I can finally say once again that I have made some progress with my thesis! I am hoping that by 5pm I can send a new draft to my tutor =] I may actually feel like I've earned my evening out with the girls!

Yes, in the modern world of instant everything, people wouldn't understand that when I got my first slr, you had to take your film to the chemist and call back later in the week! Didn't have 1-hour-photo machines back then, and digital meant 'with the fingers'! If you told kids of today, they wouldn't believe you... Don't know they're born... When I was a boy, muttermuttermutter...

When it comes to analogue photography, you really go back to the good old day's, GarethG. I was taking pictures at a frozen pond, where some teenagers were ice skating. One of them asked the legendary question:"how many megapixel?". I replied, infinitive. Technically, every molecule on the film, that changes by light is sort of a pixel. I explained that this camera doesn't have a digital card, but film. You can't see the picture, until the film is developed and then the image is in negative. By using roughly the same principle, you can turn the negative into a positive, larger picture. I think he understood the concept, but his question was:"why do you use such an ancient machine when better, faster and more handy cameras nowadays?" I replied:"faster yes, better no. This is not cut up into pixels and color palets, what you see is what you get. And more handy, practice makes perfect." And yes, Flightless Phoenix, it is exciting and frustrating.

My teenage son eschews all digital cameras despite several in the house and still uses old film cameras but I think it wont be long before shops will stop developing and everyone will be back to doing their own like my greatgreatgrandfather.

I was surprised how many stores still sell film rolls and develop them. Most stores don't develop them, but sends the films to a developer. There are still quite a few people who use analogue camera's. Lomography is a big influance in this.

I never had a film camera of my own but I wish I had- It might have taught me to be a better photographer; because when you only have one chance with each image you think a lot more about getting it exactly right.
I found an old disposable camera in the drawer when my mum moved house- I too was amazed that there was anywhere left that would process it! When we got the pictures back they were all of my cat Dylan when he was a kitten doing silly things (Like sitting in the wine rack in order to ambush the tin of tuna on the worktop!). Was a really nice suprise because I'd forgotten all about them. Was kind of sad too though because Dylan disappeared when he was 3; we think we must have been run over.

Sort of productive....found a local cobblers who can replace Doc Martin boot soles. While I do work on the uppers of boots, DM soles are too specialised for me.
So next week I'm taking my beloved customised knee high DM's in for resoling....

I have indeed. Set up a new computer. So right now my desk has 2 computers, 2 keyboards/mice and 4 screens. Not to mention nearly 80 miles of cable that I need to get squared away somehow. Almost makes it look like I'm actually doing something

Um, walked the dogs? Got permission to use my dads power sander to grind off the crappy patterns I added to my favorite walking stick. Started polishing a bit of metal that'll go on a piece I'm working on?
Sheesh, not much.

Could have been crazy productive, if I hadn't run out of lining half way through a project. Serves me right (I used the lining for something else ordered by a customer) and so now the productive day has been postponed until after lunch.

I started work on a dieselpunk noir story! Yay!
Started out by parodying the Noir Monologue, and have witty banter with secretary.
Now I actually need a plot. Darn.

Crawled out from under the effects of illness and put on my DIY pomade and made a rather fine headboard for the bed.
It's perfectly serviceable as it now stands, if a little on the Modernist end of things. Once I've got myself a sewing machine then I can get on with the upholstering of it!
In other stuff, I'm stuck between three different projects. I want to get on with one, but they're all so equally appealing! Alas, time dictates I can do only one.. But which!

Bought a ton of birthday gifts for the family's February birthday night (there are 7 of us who celebrate this month). Also bought 8 yards of linen for a dress for myself (for my birthday, which was yesterday XD). Tonight I will productively eat cake.

Packed a bug out bag. Should have had it WEEKS ago, but threw the whole thing (72 hours of supplies) together in about a quarter of an hour, when the news flashed up a Tornado was very near where we lived.
So yeah. Not a major thing, but I'm happy about it!

Found a drawing of a particular railway carriage, then found sufficient axles, couplings and bearings in my spares box that I probably won't have to buy anything (except paint and transfers) to actually build it. Darn, another project for my model-making thread!

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Removed the sticky, worn down sealants from the old camera and replaced them with black felt. I put in a new roll of film. On the pictures that come from this film, I can see if my replacing went well.

Dug weeds down the allotment, cleaned out the rabbit and pig ( guineapig ) and lifted weights for an hour at bodypump to apalling "music" - Frankly whoever chooses this music needs shooting, get me some Sisters of Mercy to lift to for heaven's sake!
