Nice and productive so far. I've been sculpting my take on a Selenite warrior, got the silhouette to a stage I'm happy with. Now to get some detail carved in!

Made the necessary collecting boxes for the bagpacking at Asda with my Sea Cadets next weekend. Did the first tentative bits of festive shopping - so, yes, somewhat behind the curve on that front.
As it is relentlessly cold and wet as it has been for 3 weeks here, going out is not that enticing. So dark at noon I had to turn lights on to use the computer.

It has been a rather photography-centric day today, as I got around to all those little jobs I've been putting off until after my last assignment of the term was handed in. I dropped off some roll films at the lab (I can only process sheet film as yet) and went to the hardware store and bought lots of odds and sods that won't be used for their intended purpose. As a result some roofing bolts are now holding the lens/shutter assembly onto an aerial reconaissance camera (Not too sure what I'll do with this yet - (far off) landscapes? Distant ships? Stars?). Having just formed and equiped Falmouths latest photo-reconaissance unit I decided to set about the other military camera awaiting some love and attention (and pleading not to be dismembered for its few remaining parts). As a result this ( a 1930's Air Ministry ((RAF)) ground camera): turned into this: If you fail to see any difference, then its been correctly re-assembled ( a novel first), cleaned and had all the grotty bits sanded and repainted in Humbrols finest "beauracratic grey" enamel. Some light leaks have been temporarily patched in the bellows, these shall be properly dealt with tomorrow. Linseed oil, saddle soap and shoe polish should make them presentable again. Apologies if this is somewhat long winded, but I think the members of this forum would appreciate the pleasure that comes with getting jobs done more than my flatmates do. M.

Awesome camera. It reminds me a bit of the specialist anti-parallax cameras that architectural photographers use, where the bellows can be tilted in any direction to deal with perspective and parallax. perhaps yours can too.

Aye indeed, tilt, twist, rise and fall for the front standard with tilt and twist for the rear. A top end camera for its day, and still capable of holding its own against modern equipment at a fraction of the price. I don't think they can actually make digital camera backs in full plate (6.5" by 8.5") yet.
Seriously, the only drawback this camera has over its modern counterparts is the need for film and developer and the time spent in a darkroom as opposed to plugging your camera card into a laptop. No great issue when it comes to a studio camera, where you have the luxury of time to prepare your set up.
It needs kitting out with a ground-glass, film slide and tripod mount before I put it to work. The plan is to use it for pinhole photography until I find/can afford a suitable lens and shutter.
It should be fun. People give me "WTF" looks when I set-up my cute ickle victorian quarter-plate and edwardian roll film cameras on the pier. This is going to blow their minds*.
*and possibly do my back in lugging it up and over Cornish hills. They're called "studio cameras" for a reason...

Nope-although I plan to do some more recording tonight-I won't be posting them until tomorrow. Those interested in keeping up with such things: http://www.youtube.com/user/greyjohnstoneIt SAYS I have 13 uploads... In fact, I only have NINE. Anyway, it's mostly covers right now, but expect more OC as time goes by. Or something...

Wonderfull camera. There are several websites about large format photography and they all say the same thing. It's hard to find a decent size film. A digital alternative could be a flatbed scanner. I'm making a large format flatbed scanner camera. Right now I've made a cardboard try-out camera with a lens out of a toy binocular. I've got a cheap scanner that works without aditional power (I want to connect it to my laptop and use the USB connection to power the scanner). I'm working on the software because the scanner is Win'98 and laptop is Vista. In the mean time I'm trying to figure out how a bellow is made. Paper model is in progress. Productive. Depends on your point of view. I arranged an appointment with a local doctor to ask him about 'medical evidence' for an upcoming interview with the Citizen's Advice Bureau about my benefits claim.

Did a still-life shoot and worked on getting a holiday shoot lined up for this week sometime. The holiday shoot is basically an experiment for my portfolio, with any luck it will get me day-to-day money. My fiance's best friend requested it and I agreed to on the terms that I have rights to the images. She doesn't have much cash and I don't have anything of the sort in my portfolio, so hopefully a great trade.

Sounds like a productive day to me! I keed, I keed! Ya... Epic fail... Sorry about that, mate-I was trying poorly timed humor to cheer ya up. Never really have been good at that... For what it's worth, I fried my GFX card a few months back... Overclocked it (only by 100%, nothing MAJOR), smelled ozone. Yeah... You can look at the melted chipset. It still WORKS, but only just. No games, hardly any internet... EDIT: I JUST got Cakewalk MC4 to work on my WINDOWS 7 64 BIT system. They said it could not be done. They said it was impossible. But I made it happen. HOW, you ask? I'LL NEVER TELL!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Finally finished typing up all of my first year Uni work- now I can burn it all onto CD and throw the paper away.
1 year down, 2 to go- by the end of 2012 I might have my degree condensed down into a single box =]
I've typed all my master's notes up as I've gone along to prevent this problem happening again.

Took over for my da at work. In ADDITION to taking over for the Director of Operations.
Sorted through probably 350+ rubbermaid and sterilite bins, sorting out the broken ones (only one broken rubbermaid-riddle me THAT!), finding lids for them, etc. Get to do it all over again tomorrow after my 9 runs.

I have been emailing teachers for permission and help for a lesson to the first years in general etiquette/manners (they seem to consider it normal at the moment to just barge into offices and demand help, don`t even use a proper salutation or anything in e-mails but just state their problem and expect us to help, talk to tutors/teachers/seniors rudely, things like that).
I have also translated a bit for class, helped some first years with practice, gathered some information for another possible internship-place, didn`t fall asleep in class this morning, and made some first starts on gathering/filling in information for some scholarships for studies abroad after I graduate.
And that`s a pretty non-productive day for me XD
