Congratulations! What made me happy is finally ordering an external hard drive. Might not seem like much, but for someone who generally refuses to spend more than 20 euro on ANYTHING, spending 70 euros on a device is a big deal. It`s also my first step towards a new camera (this way I`ll at least have the space to save all the HD footage XD).

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Today I had my Contaminated Land Remediation exam - the final module of my degree. It hasn't quite sunk in yet that there are no more lectures - no more papers to write, no more exams to study for - that I am now an (almost) fully fledged neophyte geologist. Just minor admin to deal with now and the long wait for my results.
Right - I'm off to fetch another celebratory cider. I invite you all to join me with a glass.

Didn't have classes today so I went to the park because it was unusually sunny today. Ended up meeting and spending a few hours with a dozen or so very nice and interesting (albeit a bit sketchy) train-hoppers. They all had interesting travel stories to share. I kept expecting someone to say "You have a home? Get out of here!" but all one of them said when he found out I was not a traveller but a high school student was "seventeen is a good age to start hopping trains." It was fun to hang out some new and interesting people.

Helped to set up a temporary outdoor pen for a colony of mostly feral cats (9 in total) a friend and I adopted from a local animal shelter. (they're all fixed of course.) We've got 4 acres of woods fenced in to keep the cats in and predators out, so they'll have lots of room to run around once they've been penned long enough to identify the property as home.

Got my new hydraulic pump back. A friend converted it from belt to cog drive. Now I will spend the weekend in the workshop to get my petrol-hydraulic class 216 diesel (5" gauge, powered by a one-cylinder four-stroke Norton villiers motor) off the bench and back onto the rails.

Found a cordless electric carpet sweeper in the charity shop for £10 - double what it was worth, but it was the exact one I needed for a non steampunk project (parts only). My project has been stalled for over a year while I attempted to find the parts, the sweeper is the last (well there is one more, but I think I will have make that from scratch...), so hopefully I can get the thing finished soon.

I think I may finally have found a decent pair of trousers to match up with a vintage grey jacket of mine.... now I'm looking for a new brown dogtooth jacket to match up with the brown dogtooth trousers I originally bought to match my current brown dogtooth jacket....

WE FINALLY HAVE BACTERIA-FREE, NON-CONTAMINATED WATER AGAIN!!!!! No more moth balls and decay smelling water! Turns out, the outfit that repaired our broken well cap two winters ago did a terrible job; the pipe had shifted, and because the cap wasn't properly attached, it also shifted. Dirt, debris, grass...you name it was found in the well pipe! They chlorinated the well, and now we're back up and running with clean, bacteria-free water!!

Have my Class 216 Diesel locomotive (5" gauge) in the workshop.
This beast has a Norton Villiers petrol motor that powers a hydraulic drive unit. All parts to get it back onthe rails are there. Spent the whole day in the workshop. Haven´t rigged up the hydraulics yet but just finished all I need to test the petrol engine. Took quite some time to persuade it to start, but it runs fine (stood in the "waiting-for-overhaul"-shelf for 3 years now). It was a really happy moment to hear the old beast roar again. Bought it years ago (offer I could not refuse), briefly assessed the parts and time I need for the overhaul and stored it. Will get the hydraulics done tomorrow. Maybe I will even manage a first track test.

Because my disabled parking sticker has the blue& white wheelchair logo on it, I can take it with me and use it when I go to Ireland in September!
Any BG Steampunkers from Ireland want to meet up in September??
