Dear sirs,

How does one introduce themselves without it sounding like a dating ad?

I am a chap, older than I'd care to mention, more boring than I care to believe and slightly only more talented than an arthritic snail. But that doesn't stop me letting steampunk influences creep into my artistic hobbies, which currently involve creating RTS computer game battle sets.

Seeks forum chums for conversations, and nothing more. Must have GSOH.

I usually feel like they sound more like an AA meeting than a dating ad.   Grin

Welcome aboard. Where in Wisconsin? I am near Eau Claire.
Eau Claire, oddly enough.  I grew up in Milwaukee, but moved to Eau Claire when I was 19, and stayed there for just over ten years.

I am down here near the big city of Humbird. Nice quiet rural country.

I thought I knew all the small nooks and crannies in that area, but I actually had to look up Humbird.  Wow.

That place is tiny...

Greetings ladies and gentlemen,

I'm a young American (recent university graduate). I've long appreciated traditional menswear and Victorian literature and material culture. I enjoy contemporary steampunk works like Girl Genius. Might as well be an official steampunk, yes?

You'll fit right in. Smiley

I supposed, with being gone so long, I should make a brief appearance here. For those of you who don't remember me, my name is Gwenifer, I am 21, and I live in the Midwestern part of the US. For those of you who do - good to see you again!

Hello Folks

I'm Alan from Sunderland in North East England.

I discovered Steampunk whilst at Hotrod show in Whitby a couple of years ago.
I felt more than a little underdressed, walking around the town, as it coincides with one of the Goth weekends, but I didn't think the full Goth look was for me.
It was the pith helmet, top hats, goggles & all things mechanical that get me going - oh yes!
I'll be at the Hotrod show again this year (Saturday 5th November 2011) with my 1947 Mercury Streetrod, only this year I'll look the part too.
If anyone is in the area, please stop by & say hello.

Dear me, late as usual. I should probably have posted here before wandering around the forum; my apologies for my lapse in manners. I'm one of the Steamgeezers (more mature, chronologically speaking anyway, members), having discovered this place through the Leeds Steampunk Semaphore event. My twisted mind immediately started working on improvements to the semaphore system and am now building Version 3 of the Improved Gentleperson's Individual Telegraph (the iGit  Wink ). Ideal for private communication between airships in transit. As soon as that's finished I shall start on the smaller, pocket-sized version for the younger generation. Along with the other dozen or so projects that have popped up since joining this forum. If only I weren't so skint...

Hello!
The name's Mike, a steampunk enthusiast and machinist by trade from the New England area.
I like gears and machines, brass, brushed steel and wood-grain.
I even built a steam engine for my senior project a few years back!
I've also delved into the world of DJing and Audio Production.

Octavia Thistlewaite at your service...

More commonly known as Charlie, a twenty-year-old History student at Reading Uni, but originally from Cornwall. Found this site thanks to the wondrousness of some very kind people at MCM Expo at the weekend.

I love Victorians. I love technology. I love making things. The discovery that i can mix all three into one big bottle of awesome and give it a name was possibly my favourite discovery this century! Basically, I've been a steampunk for as long as I can remember, but i never knew there was a word for it. I also love tea more than is at all healthy.

Anyhow... good day, hello and bonjour to you all!

Hello All.

My name is Russ and my wife (Wendy) and I hail from the darkest depths of Leeds.

I came accross Steampunk at a photoshoot to promote the Bradford Steampunk Exhibition, and have been bitten by the bug so to speak.  We attended our first Whitby Alternative weekend accross the halloween weekend, and loved every minute of it.  Will be looking for groups and events to attend in the future.

Yet another Leodiensian (or two), excellent and welcome.
Another local, who may well be a moderator here, was talking of setting up a Leeds Steampunk facebook group to co-ordinate teatime tete-a-tetes or soirees. Or something that doesn't require facebook membership. Time will tell... (and will tell it here, no doubt)

Hello and welcome! Why not start your own Leeds Events thread on here, that way, facebook membership is irrelevant, and everyone can access here!

Hi - I`m Dave from Durham,UK.
I have visited the annual Goth festival in Whitby for the last couple of years and have joined in the fun dressing as an undertaker but was curious about some of the themes of the costumes. After a bit of research I started thinking of an alter ego and a theme on which to base this.
When looking into Steampunk I realised that I loved the genre having always loved those old black and white sci fi films as far back as the early movies such as "Le Voyage Dans La Lune", Metropolis through to the modern classics such as "Blade Runner". Another favourite is "Brazil" which has such a great theme throughout.
I have also found the books and films of Jules Verne very interesting and on looking back to my youth I was probably an early Steampunk enthusiast without realising !
I hope to come up with a mode of dress in due course.

Because I couldn't organise a tea party on a dirigible - I've been trying to meet up with said possible moderator for about 3 weeks now and it looks like it may just happen before next year. If we're lucky.

A very warm welcome to all the newcomers-I'm (one of) the resident crazie(s).  You'll find most nights I'm on for a few hours here or there-posting where I please, usually *only just slightly* plastered.

You'll find this little corner of the webernetz is fairly safe, and we all (mostly) get along.  When we don't, we duel to the death.

The loser dies, and the winner is promptly executed because A) dueling is a crime, and 2) so is murder!

Again, welcome one and all!
