Hello, I'm littledorrit, aged 18. I just discovered steampunk, and I want to learn as much as I can about it. It has completely won me over with its theatricality, urbanity, romance, sophistication, and literary leanings. I might have an opportunity to actually join the steampunk culture in the flesh during the next four years, when I'll be going to college in Atlanta. ;)

About me? Well, let's say that I belong to many categories. I'm a nerd, first of all, possibly as a consequence of my mild but professionally diagnosed case of Asperger's syndrome. Fond of reading, writing, and science, I am long accustomed to playing the outcast, although I can see from the activity on my Facebook wall that I will be more welcome among college students. I also happen to be a lesbian (chapstick-identified), which has caused strife for me in my small southern community. There are more labels I can apply to myself: INTJ, Capricorn, member of the lower middle class, feminist, Taoist, PCOS sufferer, and spheksophobe.

I'll probably be looking most of all for tips on steampunk reading, Atlanta steampunk, and steampunk on a budget.

Thanks for reading!!!

Sup people.

Name's White, I have a very strong background in the automotive and aviation fields. I'm definitely a "function > form" kinda guy, so things like style and aesthetics are usually pretty low on my list of priorities.

However, my love of all things mechanical (I <3 steam engines) lead me to discover SP a few years back, but aside from starting a junk box full of old brass widgets I never went any further. But a recent need to redecorate a room has brought me back to SP and this website.

So I'm here to soak up information and inspiration, and if anyone has any questions regarding cars, helicopters, or anything else that makes loud noises and goes fast... feel free to ask  8)

Daft as I am, I posted an into in Metaphysical ... but here's the basic bio:

I'm 50 y/o living in Western Montana (not a place really, but a region).  They call me Dr T although my friends call me Tommy.   I'm a structural designer by trade - I design timber frame structures and all manner of timber assemblies.

My interest in Steampunk is purely coincidental in that I've never tried or allowed myself to be set into a category.

Hobbies and interests include the forever ongoing Birdnest - a small traditional timber frame house (named after my lovely bride of many years).  I enjoy Fantasy SciFy, eclectic music, things with motors, things with gears, woodworking, electronics and building whatever the voices in my head are telling me.  Oh, and beer.
I've had a lifelong love for Historical Architecture, esp. Victorian, tall ships, steam trains ... etc.

Peace and Good Tidings to all!

T.
Onward ho!

Salutations, fellow Steampunk enthusiasts!

I am know as TwistedMusings, or Anna in some circles.

I find myself located in Dearborn, MI.
I'm 19, in between High School and College at the moment, and I'm rather enjoying it.

My interests in both the goth and punk subcultures as well as my love of history in general, has lead me quite happily to steampunk.
I've been into steampunk for about 4 or 5 years now.

I've been lurking on BrassGoggles for quite some time, and have decided that it is high time that I actually post something.

My other interests include playing video games, anime, photography, reading, movies, music, and sewing.

I am currently learning how to make victorian era clothing. It's quite fun :)

Regards,
TwistedMusings

Well hello there. I am Jason, but my name for here is Orpheus Quinn.

In fact, lurking on this forum helped me choose this name, for it is actually the name of a character in a webcomic I am creating. As such, for any roleplaying purposes, I am Doctor Orpheus Quinn, inventor and general crackpot.

I'm relatively new to steampunk, as all I have really seen is pictures on various websites, and the creation of a steampunk character in my script made me want to get to know more about steampunk in general, as well as any specific aspects.

Of course, I am not just here for work, and as such, I hope I have as good a time on this site as you all seem to be having.

In reality, of course, I am an 18 year old student in Northern England, and have an interest in, well, just about anything that can be deemed remotely interesting. In other words, knowledge. I also write a lot, and do photography. I have been trying to create some costume aspects for another character of mine, called Tobias Cane, who is also an inventor, (wow, i just realised I write inventors a lot) but he is not a steampunk character. However, I just may wind up modifying some clothes to be steampunkish in some amount of time. It may happen.

Hi all!

I've been a follower of BrassGoggles for about 2 years now, mostly using the forum as an article of reference for artwork and crafty projects. I think, however, that it is time to finally join in the fun. I discovered steampunk back when I was majoring in Theatrical Design with an emphasis on Costuming, when research led me to the many wonderful sources of inspiration and information found within this forum. Having always been a fan of Victorian literature and society, I immediately fell in love with the idea of a science-fictionalized Victorian retro-future.

At this point, I'm 24 years old, I live in South Mississippi, and I'm about to start my 7th (ugh) year of college, from which I will hopefully graduate some time soon with an MFA in Graphic Design. I have recently discovered the magic and wonder of relief printmaking, and I hope to incorporate some Victorian/steampunk inspiration into some of my pieces in my advanced class this fall.

Still clinging to my love of costume-making, though not wishing to make a living from it, I do want to begin work on a fancy steampunk outfit before the summer ends, perhaps to wear by Halloween. I feel like my first project should by default be the ubiquitous pair of goggles, because I feel like they are in some way a rite of initiation into the world of steampunk.

So it is a pleasure to finally engage in the forum, rather than using it as a reference book of sorts, and I look forward to chatting with you all about various tomfoolery, and possibly utilize your wisdom for critiques and suggestions on future projects.  ;D

Hullo there, while not new to steampunk I've mainly been in lurker status here for a long while and thought I might try to be a bit more chatty. :) I spend most of my time sewing/designing crazy whackadoodle outfits, working with robots, sleeping...love sleeping, and just general shenanigans while I wait for fall semester to start up. (my main focus is costume design.) So yeah, I hope to see you all around! :)

Hello there!

I actually just stumbled across this website tonight while trying to find research work for creating a little wrist crossbow out of clockwork pieces for my own steampunk outfit (they arent costumes to me, its true clothing). I've known about the lifestyle/fandom/genre a few years, first getting into it back when a friend introduced it to me during art class. I can also tell that I've surpassed him with pursuing this style and love every single bit to death. The intricacy and details are jjust phenomenal.

For interests, I'd have to start out with reading. I read books constantly, whether its for school or just for fun, i usually have a book with me almost 24/7. Finishing up Cherie Priest's Boneshaker atm before starting up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. For other stuff, video games (cmon, im a teenager =P ), movies, art (i do alot of photography), and HvZ (Humans VS Zombies if that might ring a bell, yay nerf gunz <3 ).

As for me myself, my name is Tommy (also knwon as Kaji, Kaj, fluffball..), am 17 (going on 18 this october), live in the north central region of that huge state, Texas, and will be a senoir at my high school this coming year. Im a honor thespian in my school's theatre department and going for double honor bar this coming and last year. The steampunk creations and ideas are what makes me strive for my best, they make it where one can be low in details but still be intricate at the same time, and I always love a good challenge. I have a deviantart account under the name of royalcoaster ( http://royalcoaster.deviantart.com/ ) where i post all my photography and other works from school that I feel are..worthy P: also have a GaiaOnline under the same name.

Happy to say that Akon21 was a huge success for me, got to meet a few airship crews there,( Airship Neo Dulcimer, Airship Isabella, The Delirium of Grandeur, and Airship Ophelia aka Abney Park) idk if any of them are on here, doubt they wouldnt. Lots of inspiration from the convention.
Should stop rambling now...anyways, anything else you'd like to know, send me a pm or something ^^

Good day~

PS. mind the double letters if I didnt correct them, my keyboard has a vendetta to typing stories or anything else l3;

Hi! My name is Emilia Macey-Marie Anna Inman. I'm 16 years old, and I currently reside in Hamilton Illinois. I have just recently become fascinated with steampunk things, thus I began lurking around this site. I finally mustered up the audacity to join. ^~^ I really hope to gain some knowledge from everyone whilst I enjoy my stay here.

A bit more about myself: I'm a Senior in high school, I play tennis, I love to fandub, I'm obsessed with anime/manga, I love to sing (5 octave vocal range,) I like mixing together random foods (chocolate an salsa... Yum!) I'm currently working on a steampunk-themed manga called "Red Sky."

I apologize if I appear a bit too random. I promise I'm not always like that!

Pleasure's all mine!

Greetings all.

I am a 35 year old fan of steampunk (although I never called it that) for many years now since reading The Difference Engine in the 1990s. Currently I am putting myself back through University with one semester left so I have much time over the next few months to work on some DIY steampunk projects and work on the non-fiction research articles I must be writing while trying to find time to begin work on some Steam-Noir short stories.

Looking forward to sharing information and ideas with other steam-aficionados.

Hi, I'm Isis. I'm 21 and I'm from Mid Wales. I love all things Victorian.

The town I grew up in has a festival each year called the Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival, and that's where my love of Victoriana came from.

Evening all

My name be Laurence Williams. I'm a writer in training, mainly in fantasy but I'm leaning heavily on steampunk, mainly because since I was a young boy I've been fascinated by steam engines, from locomotives to mill engines, and thus steampunk greatly appeals to me for reasons of nostalgia, aside from the sheer awesomeness of it all.

Anyway, I'm from Oxfordshire in Great Britain. I've regularly looked at the Brass Goggles main site ansd after a few minutes of browsing this forum I thought to myself 'Why didn't I join sooner?'. But now that I'm experimenting more with steampunk writing I feel I have a real need. Also I hope to be shjowing some artwork, mainly conceptual designs for vehicles and devices which i wish to use in my stories. Although I may decide to take an apprenticeship in metalworking if my university plans fall through (the roof), so who knows, you may see some creations of mine in the future.

Greetings and felicitations to all,
Thought it respectful to introduce myself as iv been a lurker for a few months and am loving what you guys are doing here , My name is Paul from West Wales, im an avid collector of vintage and retro toys, books and anything old AND sci-fi, so  I love old Victorian toys, old tin toys and Mamod steam engines so it great to see regular everyday objects , clothes and equipment devolved into something really unusual and as im a bit of a Star wars/ Steampunk crossover enthusiast from the side lines, not sure if this also gives me some credibility but im a huge fan of JEFF WAYNES WAR OF THE WORLDS fan, and always liked the idea of Edwardian /Victorian Britain in a battle with aliens using impossible "punked out" steam driven machines and weapons, so  I thought I would become a member to expand my knowledge of the genre,
I also love to weedle away in my small home digital recording studio, some of my trashy sci-fi based unfinished silly bits of strangeness can be heard on my Steam_Radio myspace page ......its just musical junk really buy I do like to twiddle those synthy knobs and see what transpires,
Best Regards,

Hello all,
My name is Rob, and I come to Steampunk through my primary creative output, conworlding. The conworlding project I am working on now draws inspiration from sources ranging from Regency-Era England through Steampunk to Pulp and Atomic Horror. I've moved the description that was here earlier to its own thread in Textual.
I'm looking forward to being a part of the community.

Hullo.

Real name's Patrick.  I'm from Sioux City, IA (HOLLA @ THE MIDWEST!), 27 years old.  Married, baby due soon.  I'm a food and beverage supervisor at the local casino.

My other hobbies include gaming (D&D 4e, old WoD, Call of Cthulhu), reading (Stephen King), and rapping (nerdcore, stage name is MC_Loki).

Love the aesthetics of steampunk, and I'm going to start up with the modding soon after I get some propper tools.

Feel free to hit me up on AIM or Facebook.

There.  Short and sweet.

Hi all,

I am Nepenthe Dreary, and I come from a parallel universe which is like your world in many ways, and very much unlike it in others. By profession I am a Kemetologist (I believe you call Kemet "Egypt" here) and I live in Londinium (what I think you would call London) when I am not conducting expeditions to do onsite research in Kemet. Londinium more closely resembles your turn-of-the-20th-century London, not the current city. I grew up in an orphanage so I have no family to speak of, and I was fortunate to receive a scholarship to university to study Kemetology. To support my onsite research I give lectures and private lessons in foreign languages.

In "real life" I am 42, married and living near Washington, DC in the US (and I have nothing to do with politics, it's never interested me). I am new to Brass Goggles but not to steampunk, I've been a fan for years. I love Victorian architecture and fashion, and I love to study the era. I have an especial interest in vaudeville (not so much burlesque). Other interests include reading, I love to read and will read anything interesting; Egyptology; and studying foreign languages (I've studied French, Russian, Japanese, and Albanian and can embarrass myself by sounding like a complete idiot in all 4 of those languages, and I can say a few words/phrases in some others). I want to learn how to sew, I got a sewing machine from Santa Claus but so far I have not made much progress with it, and I'm hoping to change that ASAP, as I love costuming and I'd like to make my own costumes for steampunk fun. I look forward to making the acquaintance of others on this forum!

After many hours of finding the fabled 'Introducion Forum' I have eventually found the place and have decided to leave a contribution.

Hello all, Josef Grimmpidgeon at your service.

First a bit about myself...

I'm a 14 year old British School Student, and I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Steampunk, though I didn't know what it was called until very recently. The BBC did a small article on their website a little while ago, and that enlightened me about this strange culture. Anyway, I became interested, but after a couple of weeks, other things took over, and Steampunk was pushed to the back of my mind.

Recently, I found Brass Goggles, and my interest was revitalised. I now have new ideas and I hope Steampunk will play a part in my otherwise boring life.

I invision my Steampunk persona as an older version of myself, an entreprenuring Airship Captain, though there will be more to come on that matter.

Anyway, I hope everyone here will make my time enjoyable, and I hope I can contribute to the forum as well.

Grimmpidgeon Out.

Real Name: Rich

Origin of Screen Name: I had a grassroots photography business called Viewfinderlife Photography.  I closed up shop after dealing with so many annoying couples that would try and screw me mercilessly when it came time for them to pay up or assumed that the price for keeping me for the wedding and providing a guaranteed number of shots included me handing over my negatives.  Safe to say I cringe at weddings to this day, even as a guest.

Age: 28

Bio: I recently moved from California to Ohio to become the president of a small corporation focusing on bathroom and kitchen remodels.  Having had no REAL plumbing experience, I insisted on learning how our installers work.  The part I enjoyed learning about the most was the plumbing aspect.  The metal pipes; brass and copper with a splash of solder gave me a reinvigorated interest in steampunk.  I had picked up an interest in steampunk subculture originally in fantasy novels that had gnomish or dwarven tinkerer types, which changed a bit once I first played Final Fantasy III in 6th grade (I think) and first discovered that you got to fly an airship.  After that, I became intrigued with the idea of a steam powered airship; not a zeppelin style, but a balloon or mini-zeppelin style with a full size frigate.  Then, I caught clips of an anime that was much closer to how everyone here seems to see SP as; large zeppelins with capital-ship like battles between warring nations.  This last bit is now how i'm beginning to see the SP idea and beginning to set my plot lines for a series I'm intending to write.

Greetings! My name's Kevin, though I had the great fortune to find the user-name 'Hugo Eckener' unoccupied (which surprised me!) I'm 16, living in New York (State, not City), and I am my school's resident steampunk. I love all manner of fiddly brass things, airships, turn-of-the-century music (and contemporary steampunk music), and formal clothing (I have, indeed, gone to school in tails and bowler). In the summer, I'm occupied with my job at a camp, working in the model rocketry programme. I've long been a fan of steampunk, ever since I read about Herr von Slatt's key-board modification in Popular Science (ironic, isn't it? That my interest in steampunk should stem from a decidedly cyberpunk publication).

I decided to finally join Brass Goggles because I am, as of yet, the only steampunk I've ever met. Being that my current funding prohibits my construction of an automaton-steampunk-chum (and because a robosteampunk built by myself would likely have all the same tastes, making conversations brief and unsurprising), I concluded that I ought to finally join a forum (making this my first post anywhere ever!) and finally be able to meet some others who understand the whole top-hats-'n'-goggles thing. Finally, I apologise for all of the parenthetical phrases in this post; I had hoped to preserve an illusion of concision.

So tally-ho, then! It's a little after 8 AM, and I must to work; it's sunny, so I'll have to wear my pith helmet.

I'm new here and do not like lurking...I and feeling my way around.  I'm much older than the ages I've seen on here and my children are 17 and 18.  I am attempting to make a one of a kind doll with a look that I designed based on Steampunk Fashion.  Ideas are always a plus and I'd like to pick your minds.  I've designed an adorable bicycle suit with a hat and veil and if allowed, as my character comes into play I would like opinions and to post photos for suggestions.  I hope you don't mind...I would love to wear some of these clothes, especially to my 30 year class reunion in November, however, I do not think I can pull it off!   ;)

Hey there, strangers!

My name is Alex, I'm 16, and I'm from a small farm town in western Illinois.
I'm really excited to try and get to know some of you, and to get to know steampunk better in the process.

I was always interested in modern technology, old mechanisms and clockwork (my grandfather was a watchmaker), and the Victorian-era aesthetic, so naturally, when a friend told me about a group of people that had managed to blend all three, I couldn't help but dive in!

Anyway, I'm just starting my "steampunk journey," if you will, so if anyone has any tips for a fledgling steampunk, feel free to message or email.

Rosie there are plenty on here who are middle aged or older and they deffinately pull it off so to speak; take a look at the steam gallery pics; lots of examples and inspiration on there for doll or full sized outfits., have fun :)
