Hello good people. What can I say of myself? I live in Texas, and in age am closer to fifty, than I am to thirty. By profession I am a firefighter, and an investigator. I spend much of my free time 'tinkering' with various and sundry things. I have remodeled homes, doing most of the structural, electrical, and cabinet work myself.
My interest in Steam Punk is a few years old, although I have never done anything other than read or watch. My main point of interest is the "western sci fi", I should think most typified by "Wild Wild West" and "Firefly". To that end I have decided that my office at work should be decorated and arranged in the motif. I will be reading, and learning, and soon looking for help with turning a typical office into a Western Steam Punk Investigators office.
I must say, this place looks quite interesting.

Hello everyone.
Now lets see here, what to say. Well, I live in New Jersey, just turned 20 about 16 days ago. College student at New Jersey Institute of Technology, gamer, and of course one who gets ideas for possible games. Oh yeah, and steampunk fan.
I dunno when exactly I started to like steampunk, but I'd guess sometime ago. First time I saw steampunk in general was in a movie that I saw in theaters as a kid, Wild Wild West. Back then I didn't know it was steampunk, but now, well, I do. Now as for my interest in steampunk, it involves more of the post-apocalyptic steampunk, but if it looks cool and has airships, it works with me. And with 2011, I am hoping to get into the steampunk culture with my participation in a steampunk convention.

Hey all, my name is Chris (I have also somehow picked up the nickname "Invert", how? idk), I joined this forum board a few weeks ago and decided to finally post here.
I am 21 and I live in the United States though I am not a citizen, I am a Canadian citizen (yay!) and have been here for about 11 years. So here's how I got into steam punk: A little over a year ago I was visiting home and one of my friends told me to check out a bank called "Alestorm", instantly I loved the band, when I returned to the US I ran into an old friend and told him about the band. "what could be more bad ass then pirates?!" I said and he responded with "AIRSHIP PIRATES!" and then showed me Abney Park, so they are the band that got me into steampunk. I haven't seen many steampunk movies or read any books, the only thing that I have seen (that I can recall at the moment) is Wild Wild West. I love this movie (though I won't watch it again), not because I enjoyed the story (honestly didn't pay attention to it, was half asleep), but because I absolutely loved the style, the way everything looked...beautiful. I joined the forum to learn more about the genre and hopefully (if I get motivated enough for it) mod my computer case to make it look steampunk with a little help from the community.
I can't really think of anything else to say, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, I would love to answer them. I'm sure that I will enjoy my stay here and that I will receive a warm welcome, the people here seem to be quite nice. Well, I'll see you all in the forums, peace.

Hello everyone firstly I must apologise as I am simply terrible at introductions so best keep it short and sweet... I'm shelley, 24 from manchester, england. I am a games artist as well as a full time mother to a two year old monster! I got into steampunk shortly after meeting my partner and we are now putting together plans for the ultimate steampunk wedding I look forward to getting to know you all x

Ahh thank you my dears for such a splendid welcome! and tea and cake too! Delightful! Indeed!! I hail from the Cheshire Faffingtons, although I now reside in Northampton! However, I am a lady of adventurous tendancies and have sailed on many a steamer to Indochina, accompanied by my brother on business! *sips lovely tea* and pray may I ask the esteamed company, where you are from?

I believe the conditions outdoors have reached that critical point known as nobbling; I just ventured outside to find our whole street is one sheet of ice. I too originated in Cheshire, many moons ago, although now I am mainly found in Worcestershire or Herefordshire or the strange limbo-land found inbetween encased by a railway carriage...

Oh crikey not the lizards, *places the cake on a higher less accessible spot*... honestly! Don't worry, you'll get used to it... the eccentricity that is!
Mansfield (or as near as who cares) is where I make port. Marvelous place full of.... full of.... more tea anyone?

I am located across the pond in Canada, where I believe it is currently warmer than where you are.

Hello from California, too, where it is chilly, but less so, according to my parents' latest missive, than in the UK. There shall be hot rum drinks later, I think.

Hi there, I'm a 20 year old anthropology student from Edinburgh in Scotland, and I discovered Steampunk through a couple of posts on BoingBoing.net. All of it looks great, but I have no idea about most of the culture, and signed up to the forum to investigate. Nothing in my life is outwardly Steampunk... yet! I love airships. I love writing about them, drawing them, reading about the life we'd live if they'd have continued. Wonderful things. An environmentally friendly way of travelling that makes you take life just that bit slower, so you can really enjoy the sky. I also really like the ethos of craftsmanship and handmade things, and I'd love not just to hark back to a time when things were made properly, but also to dream of a future where we rediscover the joys of making things. Anyway, I hope to have some fun times on the forum!

Hello. I'm an 18 year old student from South Wales studying in Reading (England). I discovered steampunk some time ago, but on a recent visit to my girlfriend's university in Aberystwyth, I went into a costume shop that sold steampunk hats. I picked up some awesome goggles for £8 and am now getting fully into steampunk. (I guess being alone in your uni flat a lot does this to you ) I have an imagination three sizes too big and really enjoy making and designing things, so steampunk seems a natural hobby for me! Well on my way to getting together my first costume (On the cheap), i'm going for a student (no surprise there!) tinkerer. Feel free to virtually slap me across the head at any point, as my ideas are prone to including some fatal flaw i have overlooked! P.s. Is there a getting started part of the forum, or do i just post general questions in well... general?
