Hello, I am Robert Glas (yes that is spelled corectly, its Irish gaelic, its also just my persona name, I perfer the aninimity). I have known about my steampunk-iness for about three years now, but have lived my whole life. I tend to bring a military aspect to everything I do, including my steampunk. I do love the indiviuality that comes with this territory.

I'm new to this place. Loved steam and had many live steam models and loves nothing more than driving a small scale steam roller i once built. However, 5 years ago i found steampunk and fell in love. At Expo in London i met Herr Doktor. Who pointed me here. And i'm amazed at how much is here!

Anyway, I'm Wyvern. (Well not really but my real name might kill you if you heard it uncensored)

I'm about to try and make a steampunk sword. not too sure what sort of concepts to use on it tho so thought i'd put the idea out there and say hello there good sirs. *tips hat*

There is somewhere on this very forum a long long post all about this, and I think (do correct me if I am wrong) the general consensus was that a sword is a sword and to try not to do too much to it...

I have heard of the idea of a steam-powered chain-sword (ala Warhammer 40k).  Other than that, unless you want to go the Tesla route and have the sword be electrically charged, there's not a lot you can do to a sword to make it steampunk.  You can try to decorate it, but that tends to fall into the trap of just gluing on gears.

Also do you want a steampunk sword that is... for want of a better term "functional" as in if we assume A, B and C it would be useful, or do you want something overtly decorative that would be practical but looks more... steamy...?

See your view is how i feel. Its not that i don't think i can...ok. Maybe this would help.

Its out of a game and ive decided to be different and Steampunk this Character and so, his sword too. As you can see, its a Gunblade. So its a gun, and a sword. Meaning i think these room for steampunking but i couldn't think what.

Lots of potential there, have you thought about making a scabbard/holder for it too? You can really go to town with the decoration on that, whilst keeping the blade fairly streamlined.

Allow me to introduce myself - My Name Is Icegreen Darkseed.
Based in a workshop bordering the Weston Super Mare Outlands, I build and theorize Security devices, Self Preservation and Offensive Weaponry, also  Derigible design / modification and land based modes of transport.

I have started on my latest creation - The LucaRifle, which at the moment is still in development due to a lack of crucial parts.

I hope to submit more of my work and maybe make some local acquaintances to share experiences and ideas.

Ahh good. I did think it looked rather cheap. I plan to sand and repaint it anyway for the brass and rust patches. but i wasnt sure how to change it. I mean, the GUN part of it has room but how to steampunk a gun @_@

Welcome to the boards! I love the idea of steamy swords...for what is a sky pirate without one? I've recently gotten into flint lock bladed weapons... (I have my eyes on a flint lock pole axe in the V&A   ). It is important to take function into consideration when creating something that looks like it could kick arse, but being creative and arty is just as important when coming up with a sexy looking weapon. The decorative nature of armaments through the ages have gone from plane to 'gaudy as hell' more than once in history. Just look at any of the exhibits at the Wallace Collection in London...

great flint lock war hammer/axe and a number of other bits in the Wallace Collection. I highly recomend a visit.

My name is Jessica (but I prefer Jess) I am twenty years of age and am from a small pit village near Newcastle in the North East of England. I am new to this forum and to Steampunk, but have become immediatley hooked by the entire genre, everything I learn about it intrigues and excites me and I hope to learn a lot more about it in the near future.

I work as a Body Piercer in my father's Tattoo Parlour and am also learning to tattoo. Other interests of mine include: Supernatural (the Television series), reading, writing (I hope to one day write a Steampunk novel), drawing, playing Video Games and watching amazing films.

Good evening to you then, dear readers. I'd like to introduce myself as one Damien Drake Shacklemore. With my airship, I have had the privilege of traveling to the far reaches of the world in search of treasures to liberate from the unappreciative savages. I mean really, they have no idea of the concept of a good cup of tea... pity them really.

When I'm not exploring and braving the wild I can be found at my home which lies in a village near the fair town of Mansfield. It is my understanding that there was a meeting of similar minded folk in Lincoln which, I unfortunately missed. I do hope to make your acquaintance next time though.

My name is Dog at least thats what my friends call me.
I've been into Steam stuff since I watched 'Laputa' in '87 (or '86 can't quite remember when it was).
The film blew me away. But as things happen you get older, you forget, you move onto the next big thing.
Then one day I played a Mega Drive game called Chaos Engine, and then remembered 'Laputa'. Ever since then I tried to discover and recover the said title. Years went by. Then I discovered the internet and computers opened up my world. (if this all seems a bit long winded. sorry)
Into steampunk now and putting together my ideal outfit. Sky Rogue.

I thought that I'd comment on your post as I too had the same history, I too saw Laputa and grew up with it in my memory! Now, thanks to the wonders of the magical spirit box beside me, I managed to obtain a copy. Wonderful!

With regards to your outfit, If I may offer you one tiny bit of advice. Goggles! I been locked away in the workshop creating a new set of my own. I'm experimenting with different color lenses. Unfortunately I cannot tell you why as it seems that you yourself is a bit of an explorer and I cannot have my competition with the same advantages as myself. You do understand I hope.

I do hope you enjoy your stay here, this place has turned into a bit of a haven for me after a stress-filled day, so it's the perfect place to be.  Not sure how those two statements relate, but you get my drift!

On steaming Squall's gunblade:  Blade, leave it, maybe repaint it, and possibly sand down/paint some filligrie work on the back edge.  Gun, turn that bad boy into a LeMat!  9 .40 cal rounds, and a 20 ga. shotgun?  Hells yes!  'Twas carried by such gents as General Braxton Bragg, J.E.B. Stewart, and P.G.T. Beauregard. 

Just google LeMat, and you'll see the glory.
