Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen.
I have just perused your fine meeting place here on this internetting web, via my computational machine, and have decided to throw my hat into the ring and join the general hubbub of the assorted conversation.
I am relatively new to this experience, but I feel that through my life experiences I may be able to add to the general conversation here.
Thank you
Mark

Greetings from Uncle Arthur. Artist , inventor and not really mad scientist (he just gets these headaches you know) Or so he says. Currently building devices for a crew of airship pirates when not engaged in serious scientific madness.
In dull mundane life I am a retired old coot who loves to make anything he can dream up. Living in the Wisconsin backwoods gives me plenty of peace and quiet as I do steamy things and make custom tobacco pipes.

Hello one and all! My name is Drew and I'm a 32 year old tinkerer and Steampunk appreciator. In my day job, I'm a game designer and I work on pervasive, social and computer-based games of all genres. I've been a fan of the forum for a few years and have lurked on and off over that period, but decided it was time to dip my toes in the water! For a while I've been brewing an idea for a Steampunk-themed pervasive adventure game which combines my love of construction and technology with my love of the Steampunk aesthetic. It involves players interacting with real functional devices to reveal a narrative set in a neo-Victorian parallel universe. I've run the idea past some intimidatingly well-connected people and they thought it sounded like a spiffing plan, so I'm ploughing ahead with making it a reality. I'll be posting some WIP threads shortly on Tactile for devices which I'm building as part of the drive to raise some capital and awareness of the concept. Watch this space!

Hello Everyone!
My name is Laura, im a 24 year old Canadian gal.
I couldnt be fresher to Steampunk if I tried. I have known about Steampunk for a few years now, but only just over the last few days have I really started looking into it, and getting very, very excited about it. I have a habit of diving into things head on, and this really looks like a nice community of people (both this forum and Steampunk in general) that I would love to be a part of.
I really like costuming and have been designing my own steampunk outfit over the last few days, I still feel like it's missing *something* though. I'm sure it'll come to me.
I look forward to hanging out here and absorbing all the awesomeness.
Cheers!

Hi everyone, My name is Rich and i've lurked for a while on Brassgoggles - thought it was about time I signed up properly and introduced myself. I'm 29 years old, I come from Swansea in Wales and have known about steampunk for about eight years, though only recently i've been aware of its increasing popularity in various forms of media. I studied Game Design in University and I was heavily influenced by steampunk themes during my final project on the course, which led me to this forum when doing my research. As I'm still developing this project (now as an independent project rather than University coursework) I thought i'd get more actively involved with the online steampunk community, learn a few things and hopefully discover like-minded people with this very cool shared interest in alternative 19th century technology, fashions, fiction.... and everything else -Rich

Hi Folks, I came into Steampunk via a blog - namely, Calvin's Canadian Caves of Cool. Started reading that regularly about a year ago. And Calvin posted some images with the word steampunk against them. Over some time the term stuck in my mind. I started looking in Google Images for steampunk stuff, and found some great contraptions and costumes. Needed an operation earlier this year, and having 2 months off work in recuperation, gave me time to go a-wondering around the web. Found this forum earlier this summer, and having lurked for a few months, when I saw a thread on the new BladeRunner film, knew I needed to join. Then spent another couple of days trying to figure out a suitable steampunk name. Finally came up with Lord Beagle as a tribute to the nearest I get to a god - Charles Darwin. Love the way that steampunk covers all the ages, not just one social group. Love the polite ethic. Love the DIY ethic. Also found Abney Park, and listen to them on most days at the moment. Now only problem is that I am not a natural DIYer, so putting together a costume and gadgets is going to be interesting. Also not sure what my wife will make of this new interest - particularly since I'd love to go to Lincoln next year (just up the A1 for me) in costume. Over the last 6-7 yrs I've toyed with writing some stories. Have got some going, but nothing close to finishing yet. Maybe I should start a steampunk story!

Hello, all - My name is Carlo, and I live in Maine, USA. I have been primarily a scale model builder and small scale figure sculptor. Most of my subject matter has been small industrial and narrow gauge train subjects. I do exclusively scratch building and serious kit-bashing. I have also manufactured and sold resin-cast figures in 1:24, 1:20, and 1:13.7 scales, and also larger clay sculpture. More can be seen on my website, http://www.spirito.bizI recently became interested in the Steam Punk genre, and I am seeking others who build scale models related to this area; machines, vehicles, and other stuff. I am not really interested in models related to war, lethal weapons, space ships, or futuristic robots. Can anyone point me to the correct place on this forum, or to other suitable online sources (forums, web sites, blogs, etc.). Thanks for the help... Carlo

Ahoy hoy!
First post here.
I'm Pete from Todmorden in the North West of the UK. Had an interest in steam punk ages ago, then recently my fiancee suggested we delve head first into it which I was more than happy to. We're even thinking a steampunk wedding. Maybe not in full but certainly elements of it.
I'm reasonably handy at prop building and can handle a soldering iron. A few years ago I made an almost screen acurate Ghostbusters proton pack with lights etc.
I have been gathering Victorian clothes for a while (not with steampunk in mind particularly, although it is now) and so have the main bones of an outfit. Also on the cards for me to make in the near future is a raygun or two, jet pack, leather & brass goggles, a lamp and anything else that takes my fancy. Have already started scouring markets, car boots & second hand shops for precious wares and have got a box together which is slowly filling up.
Also been reading up on techniques such as brazing, leatherwork, paint weathering/faux metal and brass etching.
Went to the Leeds Steampunk Fair a couple of weeks ago and was blown away. Definitely got the creative juices flowing.
Pete

Good Evening jadies and lentilmen. My Name is Boron and I hail from the Sheffield area. I've enjoyed the concepts of steampunk for a while and have made a few rings from old watch parts but I've lately become more interested in the functional aspect of steampunkery. I just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Hello!

Hallo all . . . I believe there are to be found here other souls like myself who are wont to travel in and out of the Space-Time Continuum, never quite here nor there . . . One day while I was employed at a tropical park a weekend theme was announced, an 1890's theme. We were all to wear suitable long skirts, with ribbons, boaters, parasols, and the like, while a barbershop quartet strolled about and various picnic parties were held. There was a vintage photographer with a peacock chair; and I realized that I was Arabella Periscope and had been all my life. This homecoming experience resonates with the love of all things settled and beautiful, polite and yet thrilling and adventurous; a world of Jules Verne and Sherlock Holmes, ocean voyages and cross-continental train journeys, Grand Hotels, Edwardian summers, ventures, expeditions and emigrations. It never was real, but as a retro-futuristic ideal, with the addition of airships and rockets to the moon, it has great aesthetic appeal. Now I know it is called steampunk, at least some of it is, and I can travel between past and future with the freedom of knowing that there are other balloons out there not completely tethered to this time and place!

Hi to you all,
I am Mike, from the Netherlands. Here is a little introduction:
When I was little, when I stayed at my Grandfather's, he told me Jules Vernelike- , ghost- and vampirestories etc. After I had read Dracula for the first time and told him about it he converted an old brownleathered little suitcase into a little van Helsing vampire toolkit. Besides the standard hammer-stake-bible and garlic also there were, since he was an antique collector/restorer in his free time, goggles, a sextant, an old watch and some instruments. He even recreated the instruments for bloodtransfusion like van Helsing used. From a recepy in an old book on werewolves he made an ointment which supposed to grow you into a werewolf when applied at full moon. He as a Gardener knew to find all the herbs, but although as a gardener also working on graveyards, one last ingredient, the fat of a deadborn child, was a bit to hard to get..we used pigfat instead (and guess what..that way it didn't work). In retrospective, I consider my grandfather a Steampunk too.
From that moment on I got interested in 19th century (literature and anything "victorian") and history in general. It is somewhat interesting that in my native language (Dutch) we also use often the word Victorian ("Victoriaans") for that era, while in that time the kings of Holland were named "william I , II and II".
I always thought I was kind of alone in my interests. Except for maybe my wife a little, my friends, classmates, fellow students (except some), collegues and the rest of my family didn't seem to share these. On top of that my uncles and my mother sold the whole bunch of antique collections after my grandfather died including the contents of my little suitcase which i kept there on the attic. The unsellable things were thrown away like normal garbage..In my house I still have the suitcase (but empty..)
This idea that I am the only one interested in this sense was untill I went to Castlefest (Lisse, The Netherlands). There I discovered, quite metaphorically, hidden behind walls, separated from the rest of the event, the Steampunk Garden..
Mike

I have re-enacted the American Revolution and the Civil War (ours) even my work leans to Steampunk.... I design Molds & pneumatic presses for molding plastic... not exactly steam but pistons & high pressure air are a close relitive .... Good day to you all,
Been interested In Steampunk for over a year and felt it was time to embrace it a bit more, so I'm here. I'm a student and a Napoleonic re-enactor in great victorian city of London. I felt now was the time to embrace steampunk more due to going to MCM london on the 29th in steampunk gear after being convinced to go. So I need more steampunk around me as a make the finishing touches to my costume.
Thanks for stopping by,
Cad's

Hello all,
I'm a bloke from the east coast of the United States, I was actually a member on here previously. I've always loved the Victorian era and a lot of things associated with it, when I was introduced to steampunk during college, I really was eager to check it out. Due to my old e-mail being hacked and all, wanted to get back to this fantastic playground. Hopefully the air pirates who sacked my last e-mail account won't find this one (crosses fingers and pats the blunderbuss at his side).

Hello, I'm also pretty new to the appreciation of steampunk, although it fits in excellently with a lifelong love of pirates and Victorian detective fiction. I'm developing a steampunk idea for NaNoWriMo, and this looks like a great place to learn more. I'm intrigued and already wishing that I had a steampunk outfit.

Welcome all to this forum! I hope you all enjoy your stay here =) Hi to you all,
I am Mike, from the Netherlands. Here is a little introduction: (....)
Mike
I want a grandfather like yours! Mine just went off fishing all the time. and I was at Castlefest as well this year! The Steampunk Garden was nice. Not all that special, but the chai tea and the vegetable muffins were delicious. I kept going back to get more, to the amusement of the people there. "Like it that much, eh?"

I've been lurking on these forums for a while, and decided I should finally get around to registering. I'm Trae, I'm a 31 year old nerd currently residing in Indiana - but as I've only been in this state for a year and a half, I still consider myself to be from Wisconsin. I've been a fan of the steampunk aesthetic for a while, but as I'm not much of a builder or costumer, it mostly just amounts to me pointing at things and going "ooh, neat!"

Dear sirs,
How does one introduce themselves without it sounding like a dating ad?
I am a chap, older than I'd care to mention, more boring than I care to believe and slightly only more talented than an arthritic snail. But that doesn't stop me letting steampunk influences creep into my artistic hobbies, which currently involve creating RTS computer game battle sets.
Seeks forum chums for conversations, and nothing more. Must have GSOH.
