Hi ladies and gentlemen I'm Daniel, AKA Impossible Gears, I've been into steampunk since before I knew it was called steampunk... I live in Washington, near Newcastle/Sunderland/Durham and have recently started my own business making and selling SP clothes, jewellery and other items ( www.impossiblegears.co.uk) - I would love to meet up with other enthusiasts in the local area I'm an avid role player, figure painter and modeller - I also play african drums, cook (a lot) and garden I'm loving the forum so far, how nice are people? very, very nice is the answer Dan

Salutations.
I'm not much for talking about myself, so I'll keep it brief. I'm a writer, teacher and father of two, in roughly reverse order. I've published a few short stories here and there and find myself pulling toward Steampunk for inspiration. I'm currently working on a SP project and thought I should dive deeper into the culture to better understand what I'm getting myself into.
Cheers,
-Ben

Hi, I'm Mark - from Surrey in the South East of the UK.
I don't know a lot about SteamPunk (at least, not yet) but I'm keen to learn and interested in the crafting & creating side. My talents lie in photography, rather than anywhere else....
So for now I'm just lurking, having a look-see and finding my way around!

Greetings Steamy Punk Peoples I've been dragged kicking and screaming from the world of semi-normalness over to this intriguing world. I'm a roboteer, with an interest in horology and electronics amongst other things. We've been collecting a few clothes, hoping to get together outfits for the Asylum. Still a long way to go and time is getting short, really must get back to the goggles cheers. Professor Plum

Hi, I'm Dean. I've used a number of different names in different geek subcultures so for now...I'll stick with Dean. I have a background in journalism and theatre, but spent a long time managing a chain bookstore and currently work at a public library. Also, I'm going to be a dad in a few months. That's the coolest thing. I've been interested in Steampunk as a literary genre since reading The Difference Engine, and that ramped up with finding Girl Genius and the works of China Mieville and Cherie Priest. I certainly don't limit myself to only that stuff, but I do enjoy it. It's unlikely that I'll be someone who dresses in a Victorian style in my daily life (although I could probably get away with it...I work in a library where the only dress code seems to be that one must wear clothes) but I groove on the esthetic, I'm a bit of a costume geek already, and as a bald dude I'm already becoming a hat whore. For example I've been to weekend long Society For Creative Anachronism events where I'll bring a felt pilgrim's hat (to shade my face between fights), a Birka hat, and two Phrygian caps. Now I can expand to bowlers, flat caps and military headgear. Anyway, I'm already enjoying the discussions I've read, and I look forward to interacting with the community.

The options for hats are nearly limitless. (I am actually waiting for genetics to cut in, they are about 2 years late which has me worried) You may soon encounter images of people wearing multiple hats at the same time. And to be honest in day to day life, it actually turns out to be cheaper than the "sheeple uniform" and trust me, the reaction is awesome! Congrats on the soon to being a father part.

Greetings all!
Although my character is a Cornishman, I myself live a few miles east of the Cornish border in Devon, but for some reason a Cornish submarine pirate sounded better than a Devonshire one.
I'm 28 years old and although I've been aware of (and in love with) steampunk for a while now it's only recently I discovered a group of my friends were into it, giving me a reason to start getting my kit together. I've started hunting down steampunk literature (read 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Difference Engine and The Peshawar Lancers within the last month, and am currently reading Chris Wooding's Ketty Jay novels, although they're not feeling quite Steampunk to me, although certainly containing elements!
Looking forward to developing the Cap'n and seeing more of the wonders you guys have created! I may spend most of my time lurking below the waves and observing rather than entering many discussions,, but it's always nice to be aboard with the ability to post when the mood takes me!

Hello to all, Name's Hannah, 27 soon to be as of this September 22ed 28 years of age (Holy cow a lot of 20's)...I stumbled across Steampunk roughly 2 years ago via Alchemy Gothic of England webpage...The side bar mentioned 'Steampunk' I looked up what was on display and the art the watches the rings et al, blew me away...I've bought some stuff from AGE, and sense one thing led to another...I found out that much of the music I adore is sister related to Steampunk meaning Operetic Symphonic Metal aka. tarja turunen (I love her solo works, and own My Winter Storm on Vinyl, though she didn't release What Lies Beneath on Vinyl ) Music has been the art form that has chosen me for my entire life, around age 21 I plugged away at learning how to play the guitar...Six months of lessons helped with learning bar chords and better intonation via voice and guitar...Granted singing properly with one's diaphram isn't easy while playing tend to hunch over...I also draw on occuation and write more then is healthy for anyone sane Hope to get to know more of you here as all of you seem intriguing... PS. Thanks Mr. Datamancer for showing the way here

Hello! My name is Rosalind, I'm 18 and from Buckinghamshire in the UK (though soon to be living in Southampton as a student).
I've been interested in steampunk for a few years (in an 'that looks like fun but I'm sure I couldn't afford it/wouldn't fit in' sort of way). A friend invited me and my boyfriend to Weekend at the Asylum this year, so I've recently been delving into the subculture more, starting some craft projects and reading more Victorian literature and that sort of thing. I can see this is a lot more accessible and welcoming than I imagined!
Nice to meet you all.

Anyways I'm 22 live in North Lincolnshire in the UK the sooner I get away from it the better I work in mental health its not as stressful as i figured it would be
only became aware of Steampunk on Friday due to a friend telling me I had a beginner SP look to myself not knowing what he met I did some research and it seemed like something I would enjoy so here I am and am ready to learn more

Greetings and salutations to all! I hail from the wonderful (alas, former) Republic of Texas in the northeastern piney woods region. I have been lurking here quietly the last few months, and have finally decided to introduce myself, and peripherally my husband as well. My real name I will not be giving out freely, and while I have many names I do not want to confuse things here, so ya'll may just call me Sprite.
We both have been fans of steampunk for awhile, though we did not know it had a name. In my younger years I was a member of the Children of the American Revolution, the Children of the Confederacy, and Texana: Texas Living History. With the CAR and CofC I went to few meetings and only attended the annual Christmas gala (a chance to wear big poofy gowns, corsets, and hoop skirts? Absolutely!), and with Texana I helped with some school functions, Heritage Day in Dallas, and Washington-on-the-Brazos (which I know that there are a few of you that still participate in this. Oh if only I had the funds and the clothes!). I always enjoyed the period dress, and they were surprisingly comfortable even in the middle of summer. Over the years I developed a love for the Victorian age, at least in their manner of dress and mind for the fanciful.
I currently have no projects in the works, though I have a few tumbling around in my head, but unfortunately my other half and I do not have the funds for all that we wish to do. But this may change before too long!

Greetings from Paris to you all !
As I've been lurking on Brass Googles for some time and I've only now decided to step into the limelights. Let me introduce myself : I'm a 39 year old geek/nerd/tabletop and live roleplayer/reenactor/airsoft enthousiast/massive reader from France. I discovered Steampunk some years ago : while looking for something to read, I picked up "Morlock Night"... Needless to say, I was hooked and the addiction was definitive when I stumbled on Tim Powers' "Anubis Gates" !

Gerrrrreetings!
I'm Dave, 23, from the Midlands, in England. I do all sorts of jobs here and there, and for a while have been very into the cybergoth and steampunk circles.
It all started with a splendid coat that was given to me for my 22nd birthday. I know what you're thinking - "Gosh, Findriss, that must have been a jolly nice coat." Well I tell you what, reader, it WAS a jolly fine coat. Infact, it'd equate to what we British used to deem AWFULLY nice.
You're getting off the point Findriss. Indeed I am! Well I'm looking forward to meeting you all, pipe clamped 'twixt teeth and ready wit to sustain me.
