Is there a moderator that could answer my question about the roleplay, or shall I post it somewhere else? Because I have yet to receive a response pertaining to it.

-Kei

Welcome, Mlle. Kei.

I think if you look here, you might find some roleplay.

Regards,
The Squire

P.S. And a hearty WELCOME to all!

Appreciated! May I assume that there is not a rank required for starting a roleplay?

Not at all. Ranks are just a fun bit of fluff (after "swab" which is designed to fight spam). They mean little and less, except in signifying which of us spend far too much time at our computers.

Hello all! I'm a long time geek in many ways and often dive into anything and everything head first. Be it Gaming, Role Playing, anime or anything in between. That being said something I've never actually done, but always wanted to, is costumes. I attend many conventions for various subjects but I've never dressed up for any of them, I would like to change that this year.

And it didn't take much contemplating to figure out what I wanted to do, Steampunk! It's something I've always been interested in (I've actually been a long time lurker of this site) and it's something that can fit in with practically all the conventions I like to attend. If all goes well, I may even add one of the many Steampunk inspired convention onto my list. =)

Awesome community everyone! Can't wait to start my own projects!

Hi!
I'm Sandi, 19, USA.
I've always been into a sort of goth style, with a little Victorian.  But, as they say, I recently discovered the color brown [as in, I decided to branch out into steampunk styles].
I am a Drama major with an emphasis in tech and design, so I'm used to making props and stuff, and am really excited about building crazy steampunk inventions!

Other non-steampunk interests include: parkour, buildering, building stuff, theatre, and some science for which some think me quite mad.

I do hope we can get along.

Hey. I'm 23 and from NYC. I joined to role-play. I enjoy dabbling in steam-punk and post-apocalyptic story-lines. I'm semi-active because my interests are diverted between school and other such pursuits. I am comp-sci major hoping to go into game development. My other pursuits include comic books, Civil War series from Marvel being one of my favorite.

In any case, that will be all for now. I thank you for having me here. I hope for a pleasant stay.

Greetings citizens,

Like so many others, I have dabbled in various parts of steampunk for several years (ok, nearly a decade), but only in the past 3 or so really "got" that it was all already linked and that there was a thriving community to be part of.

At the moment by attention flits between wargaming, writing, and reading my own work in SP, and shamelessly drooling over the artwork and creativity of others (not being the art creation type Sad )

Any British SP fans who have a copy of Dystopian Wars, please do drop me a line - it would be nice to have someone to shoot at!

Hello! I'm Shanon and I've just joined a few days ago. After making a few posts, I realized I never visited this thread to do it properly! I've been into steampunk for a few years now, though I've been going to Renaissance festivals for ages. When I'm not in the lanes at faire, I'm working on my degree in technical theatre, working in the campus costume shop, and planning my next con or renaissance festival. I'm originally from Texas but I go to school in Kansas, so I am constantly going from a big city in Texas to a small town in the middle of Kansas. This makes it problematic to go to a lot of cons, faires, or steampunk meet ups, but I take what I can get. I also love ancient British history, as oddly specific as that may sound.

How crazy, I'm getting my degree in it right now as a matter of fact, with emphasis on props and costuming. As I said above, I work in the campus costume shop and work on shows all semester long. My theatre professors love steampunk too and we're always making things in the shop. I took a costume trash class last year and got to make some goggles, it was a blast. Glad to see another techie!

Ok, as a Penn State Graduate, I must continue to ask...HOW?  I need to build a time machine and switch schools.  I graduated in the top 10% of my entire class, but my degree in drama was nothing but drama, I did get my Bachelor's of Humanities.  But your school sounds epic!

It does help to have a half crazy costume teacher. Though she did say she won't ever teach the class again, because we really tore up the back room of the shop, what with all the trash you see. But it was the best class ever, I'll never forget it. She also taught a fabric dying and millinery class last Fall, I spent 6 weeks learning how to do glorified tye-dying! And I made a hat. Both of these skills I rather enjoyed, but still, when it comes down to it, this teacher has taught me how to make trash into cool things and how to make a wicked tye-dyed shirt.

By the by, our theatre building is a castle.

*faints, yes a man can faint when graced by such a sight*  Our theater class was the assembly hall and whatever room a teacher could claim for the semester.  Our campus was primarily focused on Engineering and Science, us Humanities people had to fight to have rooms and the tiny theater.

Hello!

I've been interested in Steampunk for a long time, when I was a child I loved stories that took eras such as the Victorian-era and made them wild and wonderful, and I've always had an interest in technology (be it antique or modern) and how it works. I found out about the Steampunk community a few years ago and my interest slowly grew and grew until I was swelling with a desire to make it a part of me, so here I am!
My major interests include Computers, Video games, Sc-Fi, History, Art, and Fantasy. These things have been a big part of me throughout my whole life, it seems that it is only natural that I would end up somewhere like this!
I've already started the process of making myself a Steampunk costume, just for fun, I'll post pictures of it somewhere when it's finished.

I can't wait to meet you all and explore the forum more!

Sorry but the castle sleeping quarters are full up this semester, there's a new sound design class being taught and if it's anything like the one from last year I took, people will literally be sleeping there! I know I did Tongue but the basement is still open!

Hah, as cool as it looks, it's the only building on campus to be a castle, though the other buildings have the same stone, just not as cool Wink It burned down about 30 years ago and they had to redo the inside, so it's an are deco interior...with a castle exterior. Don't ask me why!

Indeed that would be amazing!

Kansas, of all places. Apparently stone is abundant there and everything is made of beautiful rock. There is actually a certified real castle in the same town, right by the high school, though if you ask me, it's a tad small to be truly impressive. The eastern part of Kansas is rather rocky, if you can believe it!

Dear fellow travellers on the blithesome tendency of steampunkdom,

Allow me to introduce myself, I come to this forum as a carpetbag full of various curiosities, I am, and have been - in no particular order - an engineer of electronics,  manufacturer of high fidelity reproduction apparatus, graphic designer, composer and musician, jewellery maker, science fiction writer, collector and restorer of timepieces and someone who likes dressing up (Not in any unhealthy, demimonde way, of course!)
Hoping to expand my knowledge and make some friends.

um hi everyone, i have been a Steampunk fan for a while and i signed up months ago but havent done anything until now here. i may ask quite a few questions about steampunk as i am still learning about it. i am kinda shy but i really appreciate messages and replies, im just not usually the person to start a conversation, but i love discussing things especially steampunk once a conversation is already started.

i hope to meet a lot of other people who love steampunk as much as i do.

also where can i post questions about steampunk? i know what steampunk is but is there anywhere here where i can post kinda newbie questions about it? well i am new so i will have a look around now.

Greetings from the low countries, (Sussex).
As everyone is no doubt aware I have been creating works of note for some time now, but have only recently had my attention  drawn towards this period of history, and the new and fascinating technology of Steam Power,  which I  only recently discovered coming out of the Aether; (well steam in actual fact ) at the most fascinating and engaging Steampunk exhibition  (not sure about the word 'punk' seems rather coarse to my sensibilities); at Kew Steam Museum.  In any event I intend turning my attention towards this fascinating area for inspiration of future works, and will be displaying some  'Steampunk' themed masterpieces at a future date.

I look forward to a long and fruitful correspondence with you all.
Best Wishes

Also please note that I am not a normally aggressive person, but was put upon to take part in a Tea Duel.......the only combat sport that I have encountered where the outcome can be rather soggy.

Dr. Celephicus is my online name that I have been using for it seems twenty years. Of course an an amateur mad scientist the use of the chronic manipulation apparatus (or to the vulgar: a time machine) and the consumption of overproof absinthe renders my time perception more of a fashion than it is to the rabble around us.

My name came from a dream where a man who I was building a gadget for (for that was my real day job for a while, building gadgets for other, less mad scientists, who, slaves to the mundane, had temporarily attained more wordly success then me, but, fools, I'll show them all... Braaa... haa... haaa. I'm sorry, I got carried away, where was I? Ah yes. This "scientist", whose only interests were his dull interests in analytical chemistry and in the talentless St. Kinda football club, appeared in my dream, uttered the word "Celephicus" and promptly disappeared, showing by his manners that this was not reality. This message from my subconscious, compounding the name of the equatorial constellation "Serpent Bearer" in beautiful Greek "Ophiucus", replacing its old name in ugly Latin "Serpentarius", with the fabulous realm of Celephais from the Lovecraft story of the same name, inspired by the inimical Lord Dunsany story itself inspired by Dunsany's command of perfect recall of his dreams. To the ancients, the prime star in Ophiucus was strangle variable. The modern astronomers have also noted that it is a nova, teetering on the edge of becoming a supernova. Such is a fate that all mad scientists aspire to!

Anyway, back to reality. I build strange objects from discarded lab equipment and assorted junk that I find, usually on the sides of the road or behind a factory. I have a sort of "thing" for copper, brass, glass, stainless steel, magnesium. When I see a glass container or tube, all I can think of is "what it would look like with something glowing in it?". I don't dress up. I am weird on the inside, where no-one can see. I am trying to get my children interested int he craft. Other father's build toy volcanoes from vinegar and baking soda. My volcanoes are a thermit raection powered by iron III oxide and powdered magnesium, electrically detonated from a distance.

My avatar is a 1950's era torsion balance, invented by Cavendish and used to measure G, the universal constant of Gravitation. Actually it was invented by Coulomb but I can never spell his name without a few attempts. Besides he was French! Mine can do useful things like weigh a fly's wing, very useful.

Curses, forgot to close a parenthesis: )
