Nice meeting you as well Dulon.  Quite a few showed up after the fashion show.  so It's unfortunate you had to leave earlier.   I'm not sure who all I was able to capture on film(small issue with camera).  I hope to have the pictures up this weekend.  Truly a pleasure to meet everyone.  Off to work again, but I'll post more after the first official meeting tonight.

Looking forward to meeting the rest of you now.

Looking forward to meeting the rest of you now.

Captain, I was at the Crow show, but it was much earlier. We left around 6:00. After a full day of Museum going - the Nasher, the DMA and then the Crow, everybody was too tired to stay. Sorry to have missed you all. I would love to come to the Generator meet-up, but we are going to do the Ft. Worth museums today and then return to Austin.

We got a late start ourselves and didn't arrive till a bit past eight.  Sorry to have missed you as well.  The museum run is actually quite nice.  I don't honestly think we could have fit anyone else in the room for the fashion show, so it's just as well. Wink  I'm sure there will come another time when we'll have the opportunity to drop in.

As of right now, I believe we're planning on meeting up again at the generator next thursday (the 29th). I'm not sure if it's set in stone yet. I believe that's up to Captain Hoppkins and the other head honchos.

Definitely will be doing this again.  Come over to the website and you'll be able to see our schedule, as well as any other events in the area.

http://steampunkis.org/forum/index.php?board=1.0

Forgive the mess.  I had to launch a bit early as we were trying to coordinate 5 events already before the first official meet yesterday.  And I lost several months worth of work on my thumb drive. Large changes to the forums and website will be occurring frequently until we've caught up.

It was definitely an interesting meeting and I'll try to get back with more details soon(group photos, etc.).

Until then a quick note:
Thank you all for coming.  Forgive me for not working on business while in the large group.  I saw an interesting dynamic and wanted to follow it down the meandering path to see where that led.  Though it may not have seemed like it, there was a method to the apparent madness.  The next meeting I be adding in a bit more of the structure needed to actually discuss business. But don't worry, there will still be plenty of time to enjoy each others company.  Wink

Thank you.  I truly appreciate the sentiment, but this is about all of us.  If everyone here wasn't interested in this happening, the Steampunk Illumination Society would not have even been founded.  We really deserve this.  Each and every one of us.

Thank you again.  Pictures will be going up tonight.  Forgive the delay.  Between Loki playing with Zeus's lightning bolts, and the sleep deprivation, there was not a good time to upload last night.

Hey guys! I just got an email about doing a 48 film race (check this thread Here.)
I think this would be a great opportunity for us to strut our stuff and call upon other Texan Steamers!

Forgive me for not putting up a summation of the meeting Saturday.  It simply turned into an amazing social event.  Absolutely no entertainment outside of the company of such wonderful individuals was needed.  I was personally inspired by the feel of the group.  I had planned on conducting quite a bit on the business side, but it would have been like interrupting a family reunion.  It seemed as if everyone there suddenly found out they were long lost cousins and brothers and sisters who upon a random happenstance, met and were able to feel as if a part of them that were missing had been filled (my personal feeling as well).    I did get a chance to discuss a bit of what we are about with about half who were present, and finished up the evening with a long discussion at a small table with just a few who had shown up specifically for the business side.   A group photo or two were taken to remember those who were willing to come out and meet the lunatic who is trying to get all this accomplished.
I’d asked the group to start showing up around 3, as Steampunks kept trickling in I’d wait and let them get in an order of coffee or tea and it was close to 4 before I stopped over to introduce myself.    There was discussion of an online web magazine from one of our members which you will be hearing about soon enough.  There was a half hour or so of discussion around clothing and props.  After which a few had to run off.  Thus the first photo below.  After that point the circle we’d all been in broke up into individual discussions.  I did my best to visit each mini-group and topics ranged the entire gambit of Steampunk interest.  Anything from the latest tv shows such as warehouse 13, to discussions of the classical literature of the time.  Each individual finding, at some point during the evening, someone else of a similar vein of interest.  The one overwhelming feeling at the end of the day(around 8pm) was that we wanted to see each other again, as often as possible.  That’s enough rambling for now though.  Next meeting is July 29th at 7:30pm.  The Generator in Garland.

One photo earlier in the day before those with other commitments dispersed.

And another a bit later when a few more had the chance to drop in.

I had a great time! Wish I could make the Thursday evening meet but just can't do that due to the distance. When is the next Saturday meeting?

I handed out several business cards and got to show off some of my creations which was fun.  For those who didn't get to see any of it you can go to http://www.etsy.com/shop/figments and take a look. I do custom work if anyone is interested and I am more than willing to barter or trade as well.

I know a lot more people had cameras out and I'd love to see any other pictures folks would like to post!

The next even can be found here:http://steampunkis.org/forum/index.php?topic=14.0
This will be a combined afternoon event between us and the DFW costumers guild.  Looks as if we've locked in for the evening of the 14th of August

Edit 7-21:  If you would be so kind as to let us know if you are coming we would be most appreciative. The DFW Costumers guild is trying to get together enough bits and bobbles for everyone, and would hate to leave someone out.

Next meeting will be tomorrow night at 7:30pm, Crystal's pizza in Irving.  I know we're not quite to Fort Worth*, but this is really a centered location for the DFW area, and as such, should be easier for some to attend.

*Still searching for a good Fort Worth location, feel free to send me a message and I'll swing by and check it out. We also need a good location at the end of the tarantula train line to meet soon(as soon as it is cool enough).  So be on the lookout.

I live in Waco and will probably be moving to Houston soon because of  starting a new career, but I'm interested in helping set up a convention if you need it. It sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure what I could do. I dabble in art and computers and all that, but there are probably people better suited to those things. I am a good seamstress though. I've been costuming for the last 8 years and I started as a medieval reenactor before I got into this. I guess just let me know if there's something I could help with. Smiley

Thank you most kindly for the offer.  As the conference date is quite a bit off yet, you might be in for a drive.  To stay a bit better updated, feel free to drop in on our website and sign up.  We'll send out important updates like that to all on the forums.

We're in the process of adding more pages, but at least the main page has been properly updated.

Steampunk Illumination Society organized - Tarantula train ride on Puffy, the 1896 steam train

We've lovingly dubbed this the Yo-Yo express.

Last chance to get discounted tickets for the Tarantula train ride next weekend Saturday November 6th, 2010 at 9:30am.  We will be leaving at 10am sharp, arrive by 9:30 so that we can board as a group.

It's too late for the monies to reach me via post, so the only option you have is to buy your own tickets online and get me the following information by Monday morning;

1. The name you used on the credit card to purchase with(don't send me credit card info, Only the name as shown on the card is what I require).
2. I need to know how many tickets and what type.  (2-adult, 3-child, 0-senior, etc. )

You will pay full price online, but if I have your information in a pm or e-mail before 8am Monday morning the 1st, I'll be giving you a cash refund the date of the ride for the difference in rates.  This is a special deal I've worked out with the train line.

Please try to get in on this as soon as possible and not wait till the last minute.  I might be able to help after I make the large group payment, but honestly cannot even guarantee a seat on the train that day unless you get me the above information on time.

All Airships are of course invited, so get the word out fast if you've not done so already.  Individuals are of course more than welcome.  And as always Steampunk attire is enjoyed, but never required.  We want a relaxing day with our old friends, and those who will soon become our friends.  Full information can be found on our forums here:  http://steampunkis.org/forum/index.php?topic=290.0
