There has been an updated schedule posted for the Crow Collection event here. The fashion show is not until 9pm. We will be there early in the evening with some family members and probably drop them back at the house before returning for the fashion show (since it is starting at what is considered late for kids and some adults). I hope some of our group was able to enter the fashion show contest. We had series of minor communication disasters here this past week and were without internet for several days so we were not able to get our pictures posted. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=133024920056516&ref=ts Also I have had a change in plans for the following Saturday meeting. We have to take a family member to the train station at 3pm so we will be late for that probably 3:30 or 4 but we will show up. This time it will just be my husband and I. My mother was supposed to be staying with us for several weeks and has decided one week is all she can stand of the DFW area. My son is going to visit her in Louisiana for a week so he will miss the meeting too.

There is a new Dallas Area Steampunks group on Steampunk Empire. It appears that 3pm this coming Saturday is a popular time for steampunks in Dallas to congregate... "Comment by becky ann demonja/Silver Thorne on July 9, 2010 at 1:48pm Gentle Greetings - We will be making our way to the Showing of " The Sorcerer's Apprentice " at the Grape Vine Mills Mall Theatre On Saturday July 17th some time between 3 -5 pm,( they will not set show time till Tuesday ). We are looking at the local Corner bakery after for a light meal after. Would any passing traveler or airship care to join us? Your Servant - Captain Thorne " They can be found here: http://steampunk.ning.com/group/dallasareasteampunks

Thank you for posting this Figments. I've joined just to contact them in the hopes we'll meet up sometime soon, if not on Saturday. It seems we're all tired of being on the net only and all want to start meeting in person as well. Isn't it great?

I just took a peak again and noted yet another steampunk group being started, this one by a local band named The Marquis of Vaudeville, a group I'm somewhat a fan of, but have yet to see live... They have a wonderful Glamrock, Baroque/Chamber-rock sound.
Somethings starting...

And it's going to be big.... I personally believe that we've reached a critical mass of sorts. I started this knowing we have so many in the area who, like myself, seemed frustrated and really want to be a bigger part of what is happening in Steampunk. The website I'll launch officially in the next couple of days will hopefully make it easier to keep track of who is doing what in the area, I'll try to get as many alert options as is possible so that no one misses out. It really doesn't matter how the area finds out about Steampunk. As long as they find out. No one should be alone unless they choose to be. No one should ever feel they have to join a group to be included. I'm hoping to get all the active ones updated, and along the way draw in all the lurkers who have yet to make up their mind if we as a group(Steampunks) are worth their time and effort. p.s. Sorry for the delay on the website by the by. I'd not planned on this taking off so fast as to have 4 or 5 different meetups already in the works and stuffed into this thread before our first actual meeting. The dedicated forum should alleviate this, and it's calender should make it easy to glance and see what's happening. No intention on it replacing the massive forums like this, just trying to keep things a bit more organized for the local area.

Prof. Wahl: We had the opportunity to hear Marquis of Vaudeville at a friend's birthday party recently where they played an acoustic set. I personally thought they were wonderful and their music should be very appealing to those who are into the Steampunk and Neo-Victorian scenes. You can hear some of their music on their myspace page if you are curious. I personally cannot wait to hear them again. They encourage Steampunk and Neo-Victorian dress at their shows too. http://www.myspace.com/marquisofvaudevilleAlso, I think we were chosen for the Crow Collection fashion show even though our entries were late! Am supposed to get an updated event schedule later today. I am hoping someone would be kind enough to snap a few pix if they allow photography.

I plan on bringing a camera to the event, so hopefully quite a few steamy pictures will be taken.
Edit: Per museum policy Non flash photography is allowed in the upstairs gallery space where our permanent collection is held.
So if you do decide to bring a camera please respect their policy.

I'd be happy to oblige on that front. Group pictures are always a wonderful thing. And I guess now is as good a time as any to get the new site officially launched. The homepage is still a work in progress, but the forums are fairly well setup, and it's much easier than trying to track all these meetings in one thread. There may be a few small items or a visual change or two, but at least it's functional. You can view the calender and events even if you don't feel like signing up(you hear that lurkers ). Quite a bit more information is available for those who do. And do feel free to let me know of any improvements you want there via the feedback thread, or pm if necessary. Oh, and I guess I can let you know the name as well now. Welcome to the Steampunk Illumination Societyhttp://steampunkis.org/forum/

Hey Captain, do we have a name for our group as of yet? Did you have one in mind, or will we make one as a group on Saturday?

Steampunk Illumination Society
Will cover the non-profit organization for the website and all the legal filing. Feel free to bring it up at the meeting. What I picked was something that would work for a website, and to get the legal papers filed. If we choose a name for ourselves, or artwork, those things are up for debate.

Hello again! I'll be at the Crow Collection tonight and the meeting tomorrow. Unfortunately my local friends were too busy to accompany me to either event. Would someone be so kind as to PM their phone number so I can do less scouring for strangers and more hanging out? It'd be much appreciated

I concur with this, but in a different matter. Instead of swapping phone numbers, how about we just say what we plan on wearing? I plan on wearing my red Godzilla t-shirt and jeans...unless this is a more formal event, in which case it will be a collared shirt. ...Is this a foraml event? (if you're not IN the fashion show)

I would totally dress up if I had something to dress up in. I'm too new to Steampunk to own any attire. I'll just go dress-casual.

Please wear whatever is comfortable. If you want to dress up you wouldn't be out of place, and if you are wearing t-shirt and shorts you'll be fine. I'll be wearing the usual, brown boots, black slacks, white shirt, suspenders, vest, and a flat cap. That's just how I like to dress though. I look quite a bit like my photo, but with mutton chops now. Unless of course the maid burns my shirt while ironing today, then it might just be a t-shirt and shorts myself And be sure to take a look at their schedule. It's not just the fashion show. Quite a bit more going on that night, as well as the normal exhibit to peruse. Should be plenty to occupy your time.
