Sometime ago I was toying with the idea of adapting steampunk concepts to the game ”Munchkin”.
After some initial brainstorming and some testing, my attention turned elsewhere.

During my brief period of unemployment, however, I returned to the concept and filled a notebook with new ideas.
Newly employed, I managed to take bits of time to translate those fanciful ideas into playable cards.

I’d like to share the first drafts in this thread, if I may, and gather input from those interested.

I’ll be starting with just the four Classes, today, and post more over then next few days.

I must say, that's a lovely concept you've got there, and I look forward to playing with it. I'll be sure to post some ideas later, when I have some ideas to post.

For now, you might want to look into what the preexisting Munchkins have to offer; I know, for example, that there's some sort of Tesla Armor in Munchkin Cthulhu.

As for races, I suggest adding Goblins.

I likes goblins and they go good in steampunk, Probably +1 to Run away, can use Gnome only items, and can discard any one piece of equipment to get +1 to combat while still getting that equipment's bonus for this fight.

Nothing against Goblins, but I'll not be including races of any sort.
You can, of course, mix it with Munchkin editions that do include races and have an Elvish Gentlepunk or a Cyborg Anachronaut.

I appreciate the support, thus far.

I hope to post either the Goggles* or the Ships** and Mounts (or both) tonight.

* Goggles will be a distinct item type, like Headgear or Footgear

** Airships will follow Ship rules a'la "Munchkin Booty"

I neglected to mention that this set will be roughly 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the average "Munchkin" set.  This helped me focus my ideas and give me room to expand and add ideas from such wonderful folks as y'all.

Goggles

As mentioned above, Goggles are functionally similar to Headgear and Footgear but are distinct from them.  I resisted the urge to make Goggles a form of Headgear not only to give them a more prominent role, but also to simply allow for hats and goggles to be worn together.
Goggles generally protect you from "Bad Stuff".  When you would normally suffer the effects of "Bad Stuff", you can roll to see if your goggles protect you.

These are looking great, however you usually find that some items are class specific. Have you considered this in someway?

Yes, I just didn't do many in general and none (as you see) with goggles.

Keeping in true Munchkin style, most will have terrible puns for names.
"Eddie Thomason", "Tess L'Coils" and "Punchy McCard" among them.

Instead of races, what about "degrees of evilness"; Hero, Lovable Rogue, Underling and Arch Nemesis?

Plus you have to get the word "Nefarious" in there somewhere or I'm not playing.

"Nefarious" should be a monster modifier. +5 perhaps?

Hiya Captain
May i just say as a creator of Steve Jackson games (im Kit Cox the creator/Artist of Evil Ted) and a keen munchkin player
This is a great idea i love it, Steve has touched on steampunk a bit with Munchkin Cthulhu but is always looking for new ideas as they try to release a Munchkin project every year. Go to the submission guidelines and pitch it too him. he's very approachable.
There may be a steampunk muchkin in the pipeline but you never know and your little notebook could be a gold mine in royalties to you or at the very least just a way to get your name associated with such an iconic brand.

This sounds like fun!  My friends and I play Munchkin, and it never fails to crack us up.  And every genre added just makes it that much funnier, especially if you mix them all together.  I think we once had something like a vampire orc equipped with a rocket launcher and magic boots fighting the mecha-ninja, 50 ton master of stealth.  Pure comedy!

A quick thought about the "Nefarious" thing...  what about having several monster modifiers of varying values, including Notorious, Insidious, Dastardly, Despicable, etc.  And their descriptions specifically state that all of them can be used on the same monster, if so desired.  So you could possibly have a Dastardly, Despicable, Devious, Heinous, Insidious, Nefarious, Notorious, Villainous Cave Rat, with +20 or something, which is completely absurd and oh so very Munchkin.  And I just realized those are all in alphabetical order...  Grin

I'm taking a break from the Treasure cards for a bit (I have 16 cards left to finalize, from that deck) and moving to the Door deck.

As mentioned, Airships follow the Ship rules from "Munchkin Booty" (All airships count as ships, but not all ships count as airships).
Also, "Bothers" are the same as "Traps" or "Curses" in all ways but name.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, it was mentioned to me elsewhere that "Airship Aviator" may be too reliant on a specific and not all that common card.
I don't disagree.  Perhaps one ability not reliant on Airships would be wise.
What do you all think?

Maybe the "Airship Aviator" should apply to all steeds/ships/etc? There should be enough ships in the base version of Steam!Munchkin for it not to be underpowered.

Oh, and in the base game "Out Of Steam" is evil. I like it!

I was thinking along similar lines...  Perhaps an ability that has ships, steeds, etc count as Airships, as well.
