Hello,

I've been working on this idea for quite some time, but i can't seem to come up with a good solution,
Therefore I humbly request Your services....

This is the problem:
I have recently purchased a new notebook/journal, bound in gorgeous red leather.
Now I wish to use it as a steampunk notebook, but I haven't found the perfect subject yet...

Something scientific like Phrenology or Phlogiston?
Or a journal about some exotic adventure/expedition/travel?

If You know of a good subject, please do not hesitate to post it...

Thank you in advance,
Your humble servant,

M.c.r. Beusen

I would say it depends on your interests. A notebook on science could be difficult if you aren't into it, but travel could be equally difficult. Unless it's for a costume, maybe just work with a mixed set up

Why not simply have it as a journal recording your thoughts and everyday activity?

if it is indeed intended to be a journal or everyday note book then it should be filled as such. i see no reason not to simply record the adventures you have, ideas that come to you in your day to day activities, notes and personal goals or lists.

i used to have this really beautiful journal that i would take with me on trips, random bus places or 20min train rides, i'd plan my future house, design outfits, draw some things, design objects that i'd never thought i'd use, write clever quotes and ideas down.
There would always be a page at the back of things i had to look up later on: books, movies, websites places etc.

nothing personal though, its great when you go through it and my friends loved it. even if i sucked at drawing they'd always love to flick through Tongue

Use it as a journal, but cultivate the transrealistic style of Rudy Rucker (Google him), where he uses his own life & personality as a jumping off point to magnificent flights of fancy (he does infinity and the fourth dimension, but you can have your own personal steam punk adventures).

There is nothing like a beautifully bound notebook to inspire one

With apologies to B Baggins Esq. how about

Then and Back Again
A Gentleman's Adventures in Steam

And include any and everything you like from fiction to phrenology and from insignificant to inspiration.

(er, couldn't be sure from the name, A Lady's Adventures would also work.)

Totally off topic, but the mention of Bilbo Baggins made me think of it.  Has anyone noticed that the guy that portrayed Bilbo is the same guy that was Jack th Ripper in 'From Hell' ?

Oh, that is brilliant!

I've just got a new notebook that I am making into a commonplace book. A commonplace book ws a book people recorded things in that they wanted to remember. Like if they went to one libray and read a book, well they might not get to see that book again so they might take notes about it in their commonlace book. That way the book covers anything you're interested in. Thesedays of course we have cheap books and the internet and favourites and so on but I still like the idea. It reminds me of back when I was younger and had to pay $2 an hour for the internet. Whenever I found something neat I would copy it to a word document because that way I could see it again for free!

I would use a lovely leather-bound notebook as a captain's log. Wait, I have a leather notebook. I should totally start documenting Captain Dimitri Marcus Eisensturm's adventures! To be honest, it's your notebook so write whatever you want in it. Write in code if you wish
