Goodness me, is it that time already?

Almost time for another Steampunk Hidden Event, don't you think? Let me tell you all about the next one then.

Myself and the curator of The Gentlemen's Relish Club have teamed up to create a Frankenstein's monster of an event. We have Victorian science shows, board games, live music, artsy stripping, markets and more. And because so much is happening for this event, we decided it needed in equally long moniker. Hence, we bring to you: The Steampunk Hidden Laboratory Encounters Gentlemen's Relish! Please feel free to abbreviate as you wish

We are going the extra mile this time, so as well as having the usual melee of markets and merriments during the day, we will be opening up the theatre from 3pm, where you will find befuddled scientists giving demonstrations of some once revolutionary inventions. Record sound on wax using an Edison Phonograph, or give yourself a jolt with the Violet Wand. More details on other side shows to follow!

From 7pm we have live bands, including the inspirational Sunday Driver, Perhaps Contraptions, Brother Goat and The Henry Brothers. Of course there will also be a variety of debauchery on stage, in the forms of nudity and even pipe smoking poetry. Yes, there will be poets smoking on stage! Just like the days of old.

Tickets are available from: http://www.brightonfestivalfringe.org.uk/ticketing/index.aspx?q=steampunk+hidden

They are £10/8, and are slightly more pricey this time because we have more performances plus the costs of entering an event into the Fringe brochure. We do want you all to come though, so if money is an object that you think will get in the way of your attendance,  please get in touch, and we will find a job for you for a couple of hours before, during or after the event.

So, just to remind you all:

1st May from 3pm
The Steampunk Hidden Laboratory Encounters Gentlemen's Relish
The Marlborough Theatre Brighton

Keep checking this post for updates on performances, market stall holders (some new ones too this month) and other news.

Oh this will be very exciting. Although I have to say the Henry Brothers are yet to fully confirm, how ever we will have much more music and merryment.

Here are some photographs from our previous events.

Come one come all, its going to be a spectacular occasion!

Well...it depends how 'under 18' you are. The Marlborough Theatre is over a pub but the law says that 16 and 17 yr olds can enter pubs as long as they don't buy, attempt to buy, or drink alcohol. There's no reason why you couldn't attend as long as you don't drink alcohol.
There may be some issue with the fact that they are planning to have some sort of striptease, though.

I'm sure Carnival Catalyst  could clarify the ruling for you.

I have spoken with the management, and we are licensed to have under 18's in the bar until 7pm. After that its not allowed, but the theatre is governed by a different license. The theatre opens at 7pm anyway, and there is also the green room to hang out in, so you won't be left feeling you have to stay within the theatre.

Come and introduce yourself to me when you arrive, and I'll make sure you're well looked after

Anyone hungry for new music?

Here are some tasters of the excellent bands playing on Saturday:

We have:

a swing set from Perhaps Contraption: http://www.myspace.com/perhapscontraption

an "exquisite cadaver of stylistic conventions such as the bawdy, the klezmer, and le skank" from Coda Luna:http://www.myspace.com/codalunamusic

plus the global and time fusing masters, Sunday Driver: http://www.sundaydriver.co.uk/

We will also have a few more musical delights shoe-horned into the evenings entertainment, from Brother Goat, and with any luck Cosmo, a sophisticated, revolutionary and very cheery looping beat boxer.

And if that isn't enough, we have another bonkers burlesque act from the one and only Absinthia, and sciencey things, and our ever expanding market and cheese and relish and board games and...and...and...gin! free Hendricks gin. My goodness, its a wonder there are still any tickets left!

Book em now to avoid disappointment!

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who came to the Marlborough for the Steampunk Hidden Laboratory Encounters Gentlemen's Relish. It was undoubtedly the best attended of the Hidden Events so far, and there is a lovely mix of people, some who'd only heard of Steampunk via the Fringe brochure, or having read the previews in the local papers. Of course, Steampunk are always so welcoming, that all the newcomers had a wonderful night, and I believe we will have welcomed many people to the fold!

In case you missed it (Herr Doktor, I feel for you - are you not on my mailing list?) here are some photos from the night. And if you want to see more, take a gander at Flat Product's website, he's been snapping Steampunk in Brighton for a little while now.

And here's a little visual story of how the night went...

Mina kicks off the night with some jazzy acappella numbers

Sunday Driver give us the first full set of the night, and what a set it was.

Brother goat plays his avante garde ukelele

The Henry Brothers play old rag time death ballads

A mysterious mad scientist arrives...

and the room fills up to watch the transformation

Coda Luna get the audience pumping

Pipe Smoking Poetry and Count Curious's Violet Wand

A busy theatre full of refined ladies and gents

Cosmo rounds up the nights music. He beat-boxes like a true gent

So that's my visual round up. If you would like to wade through all the photos that I have found thus far, please look at Flat Product's Flickr Page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25390231@N06/sets/72157623981922460/detail/,

or Twink's Facebook album:http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=212020&id=652093828&ref=mf

Please add your photos here too if you have any.

An amazing night, thank you all for making it possible!
