Hi There,
Was wondering if there will be a Scottish representation heading down the the Asylum. The background is, I would love to go, but My good lady is a bit 'cool' about it so I may be travelling to this event alone - awww ! ( more discussions are in the offing ! ) It would be nice, if I do find myself heading to Lincoln alone, to perhaps ' hitch my wagon ' as it were, to a group or other individuals who are making the journey - share fuel costs etc. My location is East Kilbride, so fairly central for meeting up. As I say, more discussions with the Mem over the next week, then I will know for certain what is happening.

Look forward to hearing from any interested parties

Both myself and Greensteam (on this forum) are heading down for the event.  We are based in Glasgow.  There may be a few more of G.U.E.S.S. heading down as well but I can't be sure at the moment.  Keep in touch and we should be able to travel down together.

Hi Glasgow Jon,
Will speak to me' wife this week to get a firm decision one way or t'other as to whether she is going. Thank you for extending a helping hand, very much appreciated. Can you tell me Jon, do you have your Asylum tickets and accommodation sorted out yet or are you leaving that until nearer the event time ?

I apologise for the delay in answering you but Svetlana (my 5 year old Russian laptop) has been playing up of late.  As I understand it, Greensteam has booked her and her sons tickets and accomodation already.  I am currently unemployed and up to the eyeballs in debt, so it will be the end of April or the beginning of May, before I will be able to afford either buy the requisite tickets or book my accomodation.  Keep in touch or PM me as your plans become clearer and we may be able to sort out travel/accomodation together.

Hi Hensley, Have we met yet? If not, I hope you will make it into Glasgow to meet up with the ladies and gentlemen of the GUeSS.

As Jon says, I am going, with willing son and daughter and somewhat less than willing husband. I have booked tickets and accommodation but the business of getting to Lincoln by public transport on a friday evening is a TOTAL PAIN, as I can confirm from last year. Then, I yanked son out of school early so we could arrive in Lincoln at a reasonable hour, but that is less likely to be feasible this coming academic year.

SO. What I am getting to is - are you by any chance a driver? GUeSS is somewhat lacking in that department so we have not so far been able to go on mass outings, cos no one can drive a minibus.
Last year there were some other folks from up our way, whom i didnt know about until I got there. There are quite a lot of Scottish-based steampunkers on BG. It might almost be worth a coach.

Hi Greensteam,
Sorry for not posting sooner, better half was taking time to make up her mind about the asylum jaunt. Had to sweeten the prospect a bit by suggesting that while we are in Lincoln we can visit her friends in Market Rasen ( half hour away ). Then she suggested staying with them over the weekend (not keen on this - I wanted to stay in Lincoln and absorb the whole atmosphere of the place and the occasion). It's not the way I wanted it to work out but if that makes it more ejoyable for her to attend, then so be it. I would have preferred going down in a group, staying at the same b&b/ hotel, you know sharing the feelgood !.
Anyway we will be going down on Tuesday morning so that Mairi can have some time with her friends and will be getting our Asylum tickets shortly. Hopefully, we can meet up with yourself, Glasgow Jon and any other Scottish steampunkers in Lincoln and perhaps we can meet sooner in Glasgow somewhere. Is there a hostelry where you folks meet occasionaly. Oh, that reminds me,
heard talk of a Steampunk Ball in Glasgow sometime in april, would you have any info on that ?
So your hubby isn't that keen - if you don't mind me asking, is it the 'dress-up' that he does'nt like about it or is he just not that interested ?

Actually, I dont think the dress up is the biggest barrier. I think he 'knows' he wont like the music etc. Also his main interest is ornithology and there isnt anywhere easily within public transport for him to go to while the rest of us are having fun.
