Hi Everyone-

So I'm a Chicago native who's found himself in London for the next week, and plan on attending both nights of the White Mischief parties this weekend. I'm curious to know who else is going, so that I can hopefully know a few people before heading there (I sort of don't know anyone here). Cheers and best wishes!

It would appear that I survived, barely, my first White Mischief event.  Grin Most of yesterday was spent catching up on the sleep that I missed while preparing for, and then travelling by train to and from, The Great Exhibition.

I don't think I have ever been to such a marvellous, wonderful, astonishing party! Although I only managed to catch small glimpses of the acts from the balcony, I now badly need to build a smoke-ring cannon and Tesla coil - or perhaps a Tesla cannon and smoke-ring coil.

The music was phenominally good (something that particularly pleased me) until after 2am, when it started to become a little more mainstream and wearing (IMHO).

Wandering around the exhibits was a good indication that the recent Oxford exhibition could probably be regulalry equalled without recourse to help from overseas artists.  Shocked Photographs are just no substitute for seeing the real thing. (Just one thing - Herr Döktor, you really need a sound amplifier so that folk may listen to, as well as watch, Carry On ScreamingWink

But the people! Oh! The wonderful people! Their manners and costumes were universally stupendous.

When is the next one?

I have only just recovered from the coach trip there and back from Birmingham. I saw all of the acts, and feel that just for those the twenty pounds ticket price was superb value for money.  I wasn't quite so taken with things away from the main stage, and wished there had been at least one 'quiet room' without a disco (I've never been able to hold a conversation over a disco, so unfortunately, I wasn't able to socialise at the event) - and I'd have prefered slightly better lighting where exhibitors had items for sale (mind you - my eyesight isn't so good these days, and is getting worse by the year, which may have something to do with my struggling with the lighting).  I have some criticism of the venue, but not of the organisers of the event who, I feel delivered extremely good value for money.
Big surprise of the evening for me was how enjoyable the Oompah band's set was, with their rendering of rock and pop tunes, culminating in 'Bohemian Rhapsody' with the audience providing most of the vocals - magic!  I just hope that if Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer and Mr Elemental do enage in a vocal duel (as the latter sugested) that the event will be recorded for posterity...

It does look like it was a great event, gutted that i couldn't go!  My only concerns, with reference to attending another White Mischief event, would be the crowds - it does look like it was incredibly busy and I've heard that the Scala can have some frustrating bottlenecks.  Was it too bad in that respect?

There, you guys are on the front page of the BBC News website.
I've just had a work colleague bound in to ask me why I wasn't at the great exhibition. Which I can only apologise for.

It feels very odd to see Steampunk so... Exposed

May I also congratulate Herr Doktor on his wonder televisual presence.

Ah! So that's what the chaps with lights and cameras and things were doing. I had wondered why Herr Döktor held me down while they stapled a microphone to my chest, and then insisted on chatting as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

It was indeed quite busy, but I don't think oppressively so until after 1:30 - 2:00 am, when the main acts had finished and just about every horizontal surface was given over to dancing.
