OKAY

I'm back, perhaps only for a limited number of minutes per day, but I'm back

morning temp. at 7:56am:98.9deg. F
bodily disposition:chilled, but the heating pad is making up for that beautifully.
bodily demands:I am thirstier than I have been in my entire life, or at least since the last time I had the flu; I keep having to run to the, uh, head. Yes, let's call it that for now (subject to change w/out notice).
overall attitude:optimistic (meaning, I think I can have a grilled cheese for lunch.(its amazing how simple things begin to loom large when you're ill--ROFL) And i just found my old velveteen Rabbit named "Petey." He's such a comfort when I need something to cling to (yes, I know, I'm pathetic. shoot me...)

I found the small kukri I keep in my sock when not at school. Sort of a sgian dubh type of thing (even though I'm more welsh and Irish than scots). prepare for thy doom, O jabber-wocks of domestic america! Cheesy

Its said that the kukri has the power to drive off evil spirits. ... Egad, I hope so...

Glad to hear that you won't be burning him lol.  Tongue

Btw, I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding your last post (in particular the last two paragraphs talking to zuttle) If I have these assumptions wrong, please do correct me. I am assuming that your statements in said paragraphs reflect your previous suggestion of having the company related or directly linked to an organization much like the CIA or FBI or something, and it also looks like you are insinuating Bailey is working for the company as well.

Once again, if I have these assumptions wrong, please do correct me, because I am feeling a bit perturbed at the moment at having something that is so Vital to Zuttle's character and past, changed around from what I had thought it to be before, without it being discussed with me first.

What would have been clear, had I not become so Ill I could not bear to sit upright, was that
1. Bailey is/was acting on a strong suspicion
2. Bailey was never hired officially by "the company," (in this case, most likely MI6 or whatever pernmutation fits -maybe her majestys secret service) but just before he left for teh Aethership docks in London, or rather, when he was on the way already, he was pulled aside by several agents in that body's employ. The upshot was that they did not want exactly the same results, but the ends were so close that they decided to help Bailey along.
3. Bailey does not actually know that Zuttle is working for teh Company (how could he, beyond a reasonable suspicion?)
3. there have been previous times when "the company" has utilized his services under similar circumstances.
4. Zuttle is working for whomever she is working for. If Bailey is correct, so be it. if not, so be that as well.

---I'm sorry, but the entry that would have made that plain has been flushed completely out of my mind. I'll try to get it sorted out, but the outlook is not promising.

PS: is this how its going to be every time somebody decides to just go ahead and write something? Honestly, I think I'd rather stop the whole thing right here if that's true. The rest of us have had liberties taken with our characters and we haven't gotten bent out of shape. Baileys assumption was not a liberty, by the way, it was just an assumption. if assumptions are going to be such trouble, then I think I'll just quit right now. You cant have a character figure things out without making assumptions. Discussion? fine by me. would you answer If I PM'd you?.

Bailey, it's not right for ANYONE to take vital information to someones backstory and change it without talking to them first. I felt like that is what was happening. I feel I took appropriate course of action for something that was going to be a problem for me.

If you haven't noticed, I don't whine every time someone does something with my character, thus I think it is inappropriate to act as if I am a problem player when I do have a problem. If it is something this unique to my character that wasn't thrown out to be part of the main storyline, it shouldn't be considered a free for all and should be something I am messaged about. And I don't see why I should have to swallow hard feelings about it, not even bringing up my concern, when it could easily be something you didn't really care about. You shouldn't be criminalizing me for saying something.
I thought you were exposing bits of my character before I was ready. The more you expose of a character, the less interesting they become. The less interesting Zuttle is, the less I want to play her, and the less people want to hear about her. Which is why I stated my issue.

And I do have some problems with your proposed plan:
1.) "The company" Is a private sector group.
2.) "The company" Relies on it's own operatives and does not hire out.
3.) If they do not hire out, why would they hire unofficially?

My proposed solution is that we run with the "Doesn't know if Zuttle is with "The company"" and if you want to keep Bailey in an intelligence agency of some sort, have it be a seperate agency, Such as you suggested MI6 or "Her Majesty's secret service". But not "The Company"
If you are very determined to be a part of the company, you may want to message me about it, and I may ask that you be ... compromising over who the company is, and what their goal is. Because it isn't a government agency. On that, it would take quite a bit for me to budge.

I'm sorry I had to get nitpicky while you are sick... but this really does kinda bug me. And if I wait too long to have a problem, nothing can be done about it. I do hope you feel even better soon. (And that there might be many unburnt grilled cheese sandwiches. I had one today. It was burnt. I wish better for you.)

the real shame in all of this is that we could have worked this out via interplay between the characters. Have them have a conversation, maybe a fight. Why not have her lash out at Bailey and tell him that info? Have them talk together alone if she doesn't want Jesse to know?

I had something really crappy and snippy and self-serving in this paragaph, but I erased it, mainly because

1. I really don't like discord, and I like everybody in this RP. (yes, even you jim lol).
2. Despite our past differences there's a chance that this could be made to work, still.
3. It was really, really stupidly reasoned.

Perhaps I shall wait another few days before rejoining, give myself time to quit flying between rages (side effect of the cough syrup, they tell me. Not only does it taste like a leaky oil can, it makes me bitchy (well, more than usual) as well).

I'm guilty of writing self serving snippy stuff and then erasing it, too Tongue

The issue here really is, what is the Nature of "The company" I thought you were changing it. Which is why I stated my displeasure. I don't see how our characters could bring it up. I mean Yeah, it's physically possible. But I don't see why? Zuttle always made an effort before to keep who she had worked for a secret, why would she say anything about it for a guy who may or may not work for the same company/even know if that company exists. And what would your character say about it? I'm open to ideas on this one, but it sure looks like a dead end street to me.

I don't think you should wait a few days, I tried waiting before, but time passes on, and it can be very tricky having to explain where your character has been. Just not a necessary hassle. The sooner we work this out, the sooner it's over.

Well, lets see, the issue of whom she worked for/works for has come up before, three times if you count the codebreaking session with Grey, with no really elucidating outcome. it's clear to us who read the OOC, but no one else. (um. not to put too fine a point on it, but others besides us read this thing...*fourth wall begins to crack and shed plaster*))

Oh, I don't know, maybe to put him in his place? after all, a person who would run in and put a knife to nightshade's throat and then later pass it off like its no big thing surely wouldn't be all that scared of Bailey. sure, he's a big-time blade-fighter too, but he's not exactly Erroll Flynn or Fairbanks (or is it Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom these days.... doesnt matter, neither holds a candle to Erroll, especially not opposite Rathbone).

And what would your character say about it?

Probably not a hell of a lot, its mainly a fishing expedition.

It wouldnt be, if you'd stop trying to kill it.  If you just dont feel like expending effort on it, you could simply say so.(you obviously don't really see it as a dead end street, or you would have ended it already and would not have said that above).

my present state of mind is not very stable. I have no idea why my doctor chose to give me prescriptions that make me so insane (so what else is new, Eh VAP? sorry, its just a joke),  but the fact is that she has done so, and until that condition is rectified (i.e. I use it up and get off of it, which will occur in two days time), it is extremely inadvisable for me to try to interact with anyone in a pressurized, concerted manner such as an RP. I am flattered that you want me back so soon (the now-vanished paragraph of angst and invective notwithstanding), but its just not a good idea right now.

Lest see, how about Bailey does a sweep through engineering looking for the "third parties" and more whom he feels he should be able to find in connection with the stowaway, but is caught in a steam line rupture incident and now lies ina coma. Sickbay is full of patients, so they wheel bailey down to the Dragon Hangar and Kirza and the Trilidian Healer are tending him...

by popular demand (more like homicidal aged parent), I am off the meds that were making me more antisocially insane than usual (ha), and while I'm still neither completely well nor completely sane, I am sane enough to write and interact again.

Er, well, you know, about like before. whatever...

Bailey's still laid up, but not precisely in a coma. His body still has its signals a bit scrambled. He'll be okay for  the invasion, though, so somebody thump Arguild's melon so he can fall quietly and soundly asleep while Bailey and Kirza sneak aboard Berthadine, won't you? thanks ever so much.

When the Drop actually happens (hopefully in the next 24 hours sometime),Bailey's goingto be carrying his full complement of knives, including a homemade throwing set made from scrapmetal, also his webley, but no blaster, a Royal Space Marines (RSM) carbine, bayonet (standard issue), and his d=satndard uniform and of course the big honkin' KhuKhuri. I'm thinking of haveing Bailey/Kirza and others be aware of the conspiracy to ruin the drop and to catch it before it can go bad, but only just.

Zhieh's not going on teh drop; he handles teh gunnery and doctoring and is 1st officer aboard the Jaguarundi and of course he has the other injured dragon-human pairs to care for. thinking of trasferring those to the Jaguarundi...maybe make it teh hospital ship?

(pages on Zhieh-Kih-Iro, Fromagguer and teh Jaguarundi coming very soon;  the Trilidians need a page of the Jaguarundi and  maybe their other ships because mining and years of scrapping and scrounging have made them rather....er, unique, lets say, in configuration. Think junky, steam-powered Star Wars (oh yes, steam does figure prominently) with extra rust...

HMAMS Jaguarundi
Owner/Master/Capatain: Calvin J. Frommaguer (H)
FirstOfficer/Medical Officer: Zhieh-Kih-Iro (Note:X-MNDr)
Normal Crew Comlement: 30 officers and spacefarers; as Miner, only Frommaguer and Zhieh are indispensable, but operations are much more livable with small crew of 12.
Age: Approximately 17 to 20 standard years, some parts older than that (Some are older than the discovery of the Trilidian Belt).
Original form: Royal Aether Navy Tug/Corvette, eccentric  dorsal-to-prow mass arrangement (in other words, built like an obese Codfish)
Current alterations:
~stern-mounted steam-jet attitudinal and lateral control pod
~Tri-vane with EM control surfaces, stern mounted
~boom from original tug stern to steam pod
~cosmetic plating to make tug and steam jet pod seem all one ship
~large orebucket at bows derived from german war salvaged weaponsblister
~Radio Mast
~cranes for hauling cargo and pulling "trailer" of ore and nodules

Normal/original Defensive Array:
-Six tribarrel Tesla gatlings in paired mountings:
     -Dorsal midships
     -Dorsal tail,
     -Belly midships
     -single dorsal forward rocket tube
=only known to fire high-explosive, incendiary, and (mainly) grapnel                               rockets
Added Mining Array:
-Three high-output tractor-repulsor beam projectors
-Three plasmic cutter raycannons
-Four laseric cutter raycannons
-Large mandibular arms for grasping Rock matrices for processing
-equipped with geared-slider "jaw"-like hand on end of each arm
Large articulated and bottom-opening dumping orebasket
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Note: the Jaguarundi is rumor3d to have in its arsenal a weapon that is not precisely illegal, but for which there seems to be no readily explained  purpose, other than heavy defense from large warships.

The Jaguarundi's "Big Weapon," as it is often called by storytellers and would-be aficionados all across the belt and the aether, is supposedly something similar to a rather gigantic Vilhaus gun, except that no one but Mr. Zhieh and Cap'n Frommaguer (and their crew(s) at the only three separate times that the weapon has been used) have ever seen it. It is never aboard, somehow, whenever the the ship is searched, no matter when it's searched or how thoroughly.

It may in fact be a re-wiring artifact of the belly-mounted tesla weapon, the three forward traction/repulsion projectors, and some sort of aether-derived energy source.

The device's unmistakable operational footprint is a three-nautical-mile-wide sphere of resonant influence in which everything inorganic or organic resonates, no matter what it's actual natural frequency might be, and painfully; unshielded or vulnerable ships or other devices, in some cases people, animals , or vegetation, nearby and offship tend to implode and disintegrate. Oddly, all that the onboard witnesses have ever experienced is a fleeting, splitting headache, and once a broken hip flask.

No one has yet interviewed the rhododendrons, although one did sprout a rose blossom and attract magnesium dust approximately one standard month after the (alleged) second use of 'the weapon.'

Engines:
-After-military add-on High-output steam jets for attitudinal and lateral control; after-military add-on large-bore steam blast nozzle for low-speed movement and aether-preparatory accelleration.
-Former, declassified and demilitarized (?) paired omniattitudinally-articulable Aetherrotor Aether turbine engines (I see this as common for aethership tugs, especially those of a military derivation; they have to be infinitely adjustable as far as thrust direction and they have got to be powerful, and capable of "Grabbing Ath" from a dead stop just to handle the ships they would have to handle in a busy formation or spacedock -- not to mention horrendously fast to serve corvette duty!)

Owned, captained, and piloted mainly by Captain Calvin Frommaguer, formerly of Climax, Colorado (city and environs now defunct and returned to natural state), also by Moon-Dragon ZhiehThe Jaguarundi is one of the many ships used and lived aboard by those who mine the cometary bodies and outlying asteroid and Dark Dust Clouds of what is commonly called teh Trilidian Belt.

A Word About 'The Trilidian Belt'

More than just a narrow gravitationally-herded bunch of planetoids and space rocks, however, the Trilidian 'Belt' is in fact the body of dark matter, asteroidal, planetoidal, cometary and other such bodies that form the body that to varying degrees of density and sparsity, englobes all of our solar system and will someday in the future come to be called "the Oort cloud."

The Trilidian Belt is so far out that even Pirates and Ore Rustlers will not go there; the amount of sun heat that reaches out so far from the system's source is negligible; some tiny trace is emitted from, of all places, Jupiter and Saturn, but but that is even less than the solar energy. thus, any water that is offship in the Trilidian is necessarily hard-frozen ice. if one were so foolhardy as to stick his bare hand through a hand-sized airlock (such do exist, for the purpose of tool application by suited personnel) that hand, whether on the light or dark side of the ship, would be frozen solid and likely break off at the first sharp change in direction by the main body of mass. Thus, the steam-jet propulsion and directional controls in common use in the Belt for slower-than-aether propulsion is infact a viable and renewable source of such, as the expelled water in vaporous form (which is in fact what steam is) is nearly-instantly transformed back into ice.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The penalty for Rustling Ore is severe. Due to teh low number of Marshals to keep teh peace, the Miners are authorized by mining law to carry out rudimentary police powers and procedures-- which is often shortened and simplified by simply shooting the miscreants -- if they are very lucky.

Pirates fafe even worse when run to ground or otherwise apprehended; theyare quite simply shot on sight, especially if theyu are seen nearby and on an intersecting course with a ship that is hauling a trailer or more to the station to be be sold.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Trilidian ships tend to be owner-modified almost past the point of recognizability; Jaguarundi, for example,(obviously) would not have had steam jets or huge EM vanes for directional control on her tail, a tall radio mast or big bottom-emptying ore basket when she was a military corvette/tug --but she obviously does now.

-----------------
Planning to start the Invasionary Drop this evening, or failing that, sometime in the wee hours Sunday. If I have truly killed the RP I am sorry. It was not intentional.

Not all, Mr. Bailey - this is great detail on the Trilidian, I particularly like the thinking on the steam vapor and ice - combined with Nightshade's description of the inner Asteroid Belt pirates, perhaps this could be the setting for Chapter 3?  Smiley

Please pardon my departure earlier, I was told that it was Easter, and that I should be out enjoying the excessive tree pollen with everyone else so that we can all lie awake coughing tonight...

Well, no, that wasn't really precisely what they said, but that's what's going to happen, mark me well...

Apologies all, I meant to post yesterday and got into a 6 hour talk with our neighbors (first time talking to them) after someone in our neighborhood jumped someone else (I miss living in Mayberry.) And I meant to post today, But I can barely breathe or walk without pain striking my lungs and bronchial tubes right now... (I don't know why.) I'm just going to go to bed and hope I feel well enough tomorrow morning to post. Just wanted to let you all know that I wasn't ditching you or anything. Not sure yet what the effect will be on the rhododendrons this time; any ideas? (lol). Hopefully, the marines don't start sprouting roses and signing Beatles tunes...

Yikes, hope the neighborhood folks are OK, Zuttle.

Going to bed to attempt coughing fits er, I mean, sleeping fits.

Well, no, that isn't right either, is it...

Slightly more seriously, please tell me if the Jaguarundi's Big Weapon deployment needs more detail or something...

Good night for now. Sleep well, Zuttle.

Hope the part about the beast's escape is OK, thought it ought to fight somebody at least, so why not the ship with the weird weapon? Also setting up for Next chapter, whether we go to Venus or the Trilidian Belt, and now a reason (albeit having happened sort of 'bass-ackward -ly') for Bailey's company to be called the Knife Biters.

I will of course revise anything that does not fit or which misappropriates.
