Things are moving to a grand confrontation on Mars. Looking forward to see how it plays out. Thank you to everyone who keeps me banging my head on my laptop every time something unexpected is tossed at me. Not to mention your forgiveness for my murderous attacks on grammar and spelling.
I would like to know, if any one knows if our founder “Dan Badger” is, or is not at some point going to leave his cabin? { has anyone brought food to his room in the past few days? }.
I would like to resolve all outstanding characters issues as the plot climaxes. So if he is not,,,
Thanks Jim/Nightshade

OUTSTANDING plot twist!!! My first thought on reading your "escape pod" post was why would the Germans be satisfied enough to leave unless he took the artifact with him, and why would he give it up so readily in any case? Excellent plan - you get to Mars on a sleight of hand, and I have no reason to search the ship for something I believe is already gone - BRAVO, sir! You DO play poker, I assume?

Ooh, so Major Dan Badger has gone stark raving mad! ,,,,How sad.
One can only assume that no court on Earth of Mars would take seriously the financial records of a mad man, well who would!
How unfortunate.

I don't, repaeat, DO NOT intend to leave this RP or go on a hiatus of any kind, buuuuuttt...(lol)... Sorry. Seriously, My Mom is beginning a series of tests and and other precursor procedures to having two operations done on her back (spine, if I'm not mistaken), and I have my own medical issues to deal wit and endure, so my posting may become erratic (well, ok, more so in the days and weeks to come; i fully intend to keep to the pace already established, but we will just have to see. Hopefully, I can at least get things done at late night, as I have done the last several nights. I'm just giving Fair Warning, just in case. Like as not, nothing untoward will happen to my posting. *knocks on wood, HARD, shaking the entire ship and causing engineering to issue a general alert*

Way to take charge, Mr. Bailey! Although I must fault your security squad for allowing the slippery Miss Curious aboard - how many did she send to the surgery this time? And Nightshade, what now - Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam? An historical note: if your Jesuit is going to be a freemason, just be aware it would have to be in secret, the Church has long-since declared them heretics (and have had them burned as such, as they did with the Templars) and forbade Catholics from joining.

I realized I may have gone a little far with the 'overpowered rifle'. I wanted it to be an interesting addition that comes into the story but doesn't become a major part of it or take it over. Essentially it's a technology so powerful it can't be revealed in a major way. I don't have a problem with what's already been written, though. Most interesting! --- Neptunium is a trace element found on the moon and, in higher concentrations, in certain meteorites. It is a heavy metal, but not radioactive. It has unusual resonance transmitting properties, and even a small amount in an aluminum alloy will make it able to withstand very heavy vibrations. Trace amounts of Neptunium oxide give some of the rocks on the moon a deep cobalt-blue color.

None in surgery, though I hear Bailey accidentally fired a minimum-charge bolt through a cabin rhododendron when he heard the news via his uniform radio... By the way, excellent post, Miss Curious.

not to be picky, The Jesuits have a long history of radicalism, many a pope tried to be rid of them all together even Suppressing the order in 1767. So a Jesuit/ mason, not a big stretch. Example.
"Henry Garnet, one of the leading English Jesuits, was hanged for misprision of treason because of his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot. The plan had been an attempt to kill King James I of England and VI of Scotland, his family, and most of the Protestant aristocracy in a single attack by blowing up the Houses of Parliament in 1605; another Jesuit, Oswald Tesimond, managed to escape arrest for involvement in the same plot.
Within the Catholic Church, some Jesuits are criticized by other parties for allegedly being overly liberal and for deviating substantially from official Church teaching and papal directives, especially on such issues as abortion, priestly celibacy, and liberation theology"

So, how dose everyone feel about continuing the voyages of the H M A S Badger after this little drama comes to a close?
I am rather enjoying this and would like to see it carry on. If someone else has an idea for a plot line or story, I would be more then willing to yield the floor.
If not we can carry on as we are doing. If everyone IS wanting to continue, I was thinking we should maybe do it in a new thread. Something like “ The Second, or New Voyage of the HMAS Badger”
It might draw in more people who don’t want to try an catch up on an on going story line.
So,,, what do you think?

I'm all for continuing; not sure whatthe plotline should be...maybe
1. something involving a threat to both Earth and Mars, 2. something or someone from beyond time, or 3. a villain who resides outside of time...
(heh, ok, so I watch too much Dr. Who...)
Or... a villain or race of villains even more insidious than those of the illuminati plot, who are in fact the true architects of that plot, and had planned to use it to subjugate all of the solar system (they reside on neptune or some such),and vow, at the deafeat at the temple to destroy all known life in teh solar system...or some such apocalyptic mumbo-jumbo...(lol). Anybody who wants to run with that to come up with something is welcome to it...

Ummm... Mr. Nightshade, please rest assured that the cadence poem is only part of the storyline, and not intended personally IRL.
(I Could have made it much worse, as I know several cadences that are much more filthy; I didn't want to offend people's sensitivities.)

Or perhaps the moons are highly rich in minerals and rare elements, and at the same time that they are being officially explored, a powerful pirate fleet with a base in the asteroid belt is preparing to take control of the trade routes that pass through the area...

Apparently I missed a busy night, all excellent! I will try and catch up today. I definitely want to continue this thread, it's the most interesting collaborative project I've been involved in in quite some time - let's see where we end up from the Mars storyline, then discuss. I was thinking along the lines of going rogue, essentially not returning the Badger to Earth but refitting her for exploration - ? And Jim, you are quite correct on the radical nature of the Jesuits, I was just noting that a highly-placed one would have to be operating in secret if he were a member of a secret society, if only for the sake of church politics - good historical note on the Gunpowder Plot, makes me want to watch Vendetta again!

V for Vendetta, one of my favorite movies Watched 8 times in the week we rented it, when we had to return it, I missed it too much and had to buy a copy. though... after reading the league of extraordinary gentlemen (written by the same man, Alan Moore) ... I can't look at it the same way. In fact I don't think I have watched it since... Personally I'm liking the hiring out to explore Jupiter's moons idea. As for villain... Doesn't always have to be something sentient, or even conscious. Then again... Even having defeated one plan of one part of the Illuminati by no means, means that you have defeated them. Could always recycle

I like the exploration idea as well, I am thinking jungles, swamps, horrible monsters. Blood thirsty natives. Lost cities,, that kind of thing.
We can go back to a more intrigue and mystery story line as we go. It would give Mr. Bailey something to hack at with his big nasty knife.

Wonderful, I was about to suggest Venus myself, ERB did a whole series on that planet as well, and there's a wealth of material from other sources - a steaming jungle, planet to satisfy Nightshade's description.
We should post Sir Jonathan's letter as the beginning of a new thread, and go from there once we've mopped up on Mars.

Germans and Britons have clashed at the tent of Lord Loftis, and have been "persuaded" by the Martians to a truce until events play out and run their course at the temple, whilst Bailey, Arguild, three marines and three martian riflemen have taken the remaining martian flier in armed pursuit of Nightshade and Curious. Gunfire and swordplay during the unfolding chase may be safely assumed...
