I see. Well, I hope you get it fixed or whatever. It's been fun.
Ditto, Alexis. Sorry to have been so lax in posting, but poor health and the closing of the academic year have me floored lately. I see all the posts you and Bailey have been trading as a terrific side-adventure while the Mad Badger is in spacedock; we'll get to Venus eventually! Best, Theo

It's nice to hear from you Theo. Hope you're doing better. BTW, while awaiting the complete refit of the Mad Badger ("...could take weeks, sir, parts are in short supply this far out, doncha know..."), Captain Grey has proceeded ahead to the Moon to discuss delivery of the artifacts with Loftis, and to take a brief sojourn home to his London club on Earth, where he has quite accidently encountered... Mr. Cornelius Nightshade. No, really. I ran into Jim at the Smoking Room, and we're happily tearing into each other in the most polite and civilized fashion. To enjoy the bloodshed, pick up the thread at: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15607.msg547395.html#msg547395 That just made my week. (right now I'm trying not to crash-and-burn the storyline, due to some rather stupid errors on my part.) Computer seems to be working now. (it wasn't a big issue, I have another with internet, I just would only be able to use it in the evening.)

Now I'm thinking maybe I should leave in Brantley's entrance, but have him leave after repairing the Beau so that it can't be compromised again, and without the violent encounter. Warning: Brantley is Mercurial. He's the closest I've ever allowed a character to come to having a personality remotely like mine (even Bailey is a bit removed from me, and both are worlds more violent and bloody-minded than I would ever allow myself to be). He is, as I may have already mentioned, everything that Jack is only partly undeservedly thought to be, because of circumstance: A Magnificently Mad Bastard with a Badge, or as I have said before in other places, he's me with a bad case of road rage.

hmmm... hee hee... Okay, by popular suggestion, the 'swashbuckling Brantley' scene is back, but with minor differences, and so is the Shi-Markia-in-a-box sequence... I just couldnt resist, once it was suggested...

I'm glad you liked it. I'm not sure what should be done with the star. There's a facility (referred to in a previous RP, and yes, it was and is a takeoff on Warehouse 13 ) where such things can be sent, but it's in Brantley's home dimension and home time, etc. It might also be sent to the same dimension and destroyed in deep space, Or the same done in the Badger's dimension. I suspect that the Codex Illuminati should be destroyed also -- but whether or not it will allow itself to be destroyed is to my mind a different matter altogether. In any case, It might need to be captured, but kept resolutely separate from teh star and its all-too-vocal gem, and anythng else that carries both power and knowledge... I'm off to bed. Must rise and mow in the AM. I 'll try to respond to whatever is posted sometime after that. Niight...

...It may or may not be possible to actually use the star like that, or it might be too dangerous to do so.

In regard to using the star "like that," I am not sure what you were referring to; the Jaguarundi would not be using the star, but its same old method of power generation.
In regard to the pixel drawing, that's pretty nice. An upcoming character's weapon?

It was about the ''using the star against them' that Zhan mentioned. I didn't know if you might want to put something in there about there being limitations on using it. (I was thinking there might be some potential for problems, or just too great a danger of it getting recaptured.) Sorry about the confusion, I really should have made that clearer. --- It's Frank's modified revolver. It's been a while since the description, and I was a bit bored the other day... I wrote that it had a scope in the first description, I think, but I haven't written that in for a while. It's a design based on the Lemat revolver, but not a modified original, so there are a few differences. Like having an eight round cylinder instead of nine, and using cartridge instead of cap and ball. Heh, Donnavan wasn't intended to be a permanent character, but that might change... He's being spared the nefarious purpose I had originally intended him for, at least.

I never intended for Brantley to develop 'Chthulid' characteristics when I first invented the character; I didnt expect The Extended Steam Salon to run as long as it did, and there were never any really detailed character sheets. Thus, he and the other people's characters just sort of developed and grew as they went along. I had originally envisioned the Martians as being of the "little green men" variety, but actually rather similar to Harry Harrison's "Gray Men" from his Stainless Steel Rat series, crossed with Martin from the old My Favorite Martian TV series. Well, best-laid plans and all that. Tehn someone (Thistlewaite, as I remember) came up with the idea of them being betentacled travesties of the Chthulu mythos. It still works with this RP because its a different universe, where different things happened as opposed to the Badger's universe. He's in the Chthulu dimension's underworld now, talking to one or several of his 'cousins,' trying to enlist their aid in attacking the Drene-vah fleet base. My idea is that the giant 'shoggoth' Chthulians tolerate him both because of his part in putting down their "ridiculous martian cousins" and because he is, in fact, beginning to show signs of his altered DNA (the tentacle, which I'm also thinking of multiplying according to how many lightning burns shi markia's severing marked him with. The "enlistment" idea hinges on the statements made by the other, still-living sorceress' reference to "the book," and "other sources of power"; my thinking is/was that perhaps they still think they can control the Deep Ones, and that Brantley is banking on the Chthulians' disdain for such conceits to inspire them to pitch in, in some way... Of course, I won't let it pan out if it's not approved... ------------------- I like the revolver, its a cool weapon, and teh scope just makes it cooler.. -- Bailey's machine gun is perhaps slightly out-of-period, but it refers to a real weapon, namely the Italian Military's Villar Perosa machine guns. which were double-barrelled, and were originally designed for guarding mountain passes in the Alps, etc.; they are not necessarily terribly accurate, but had an interesting "shotgun-like" effect; several contemporary and also current descriptions mention the phrase 'filling the valley with bullets,' which thus seems to have been a large part of its reputation. So, whatever Bailey aims it at will probably get chopped up pretty fine when he pulls the trigger... -- Heck, no prob about Donnavan; neither Mad Jack nor Brantley were intended as long-term in-the-flesh characters. Mad Jack is slightly piratical, despite his own protestations to the contrary, and he is mad to a degree; taking on aerial men-o-war a hundred times the size of one's blimp is not exactly a sane act And Brantley? Well, he's not completely an angel, either; what he was running from before he was at MIT was a train robbery rap... seems he was along on the Glendale job with the James Gang...

One of my first writing attempts ended up with a character that went from fairly normal to utterly crazy in the space of a few pages... Wasn't intended at all, but that's what happened. I think he ended up almost literally raving mad by the time I got done.
Sounds great

The stage is set on my end, if all of that was OK. it would be probably work better if the priestess (es?) did the summonings a little bit after the battle actually starts, so that Brantley and Co. can save the bacon in some manner, but whatever you prefer.

I removed the bit about the temporary demise of the Drene-vah because it is not really my place to look so far ahead into their future; I did not create them, after all, and it might kill storyline possibilities (pun intended).
I hope I didn't overstep with the dialogue of the Drene-Vah Priestess and her acolytes, etc.. Also, if you want to play out the battle a bit more (there's still plenty to be done, but your ideas are just as good as mine, and often better), let me know what to alter. I don't want to rule the thing; there's no real fun in that.

Hey, no problem, it's the end of the school year and Memorial Day to boot; I understand, believe me.
------------- As for the telepathically-capable intelligent six-legged cat-beastie... several ideas came to mind:
1. A six-legged sabertoothed tiger, similar to the banths of ERB's Barsoom, but it has taken a shine to Donnavan and wants to come inside where he is.
1. I was thinking at one point that it was a half-tame friend of Donnavan's and that Donnavan called him or her "fluffy," or "pooky," or something ridiculous like that. Maybe "Mr. Toodles"... or some other utterly ridiculous name that the animal will tell him toward teh end of teh episode that it only put up with it out of loyalty, or something like that, and will he please call him by his right name now?
2. Again, a half-tame pet that guards its "master" zealously and wanted to come in for the "night," and follows Donnavan to the volcano and saves his life at a crucial moment.
4. Or, just a predator who sees the intelligences inside the hangar as a variation on a "boxed lunch."
Or what you will.

Heh, yeah, I saw you there... passwords (and keeping track of them) are such a pain, one reason I didn't register.
Possibly more of the small gunships, and/or or a bigger ship intent on fighting instead of escape... I was thinking that the base had some sort of 'emergency door', or a tunnel dug almost but not quite to the outside, in case of the others being destroyed, inoperative, ect. So it would probably be connected to the main dock, (which has most likely collapsed) as well as a second, smaller one holding a few heavily armed ships for a surprise attack or last-stand defense.

My word, you poor Girl! (lol). Don't tax yourself too hard. Brantley's gone for at least the next long while; Jack will be departing soon also (long before the 10-year deadline. Almost immediately, in fact. Maybe Mingh will go with him, but then again, there are no Moon Dragons Where and When he will be returning, and even the physics work differently (the level of "free aether" far exceeds our own Real-Life world, where it is believed to be fictional) but is nothing like that of the Badger's universe. Mingh might not even last a week there. Not sure where tro go or what to do from here...

It alright... I'm (kind of) used to it. We could find a 'hideout spot', since the Drene-Vah probably can't track us as well as they have been, (partly because anyone who could do so has probably been killed by now.) and wait for the Badger or other reinforcements, and maybe give Theo a chance to catch up.
