Yep, I know how the discussion thing goes. All too well. But, at least they care enough to discuss, gotta give 'em that.
------------------- Things don't burn like what? you have oxygen, you have heat, things burn. Gases, flammables, especially steam-producing fuels, most of which would be either liquid petroleum or gaseous material; sure, steam can be gotten via nuclear means, but do they have that on these ships? if not, gaseous or liquid would be the only viable fuel, they'd have to carry so much coal they'd never get off teh ground in appreciable gravity, while liquid can be manipulated a number of ways to make a little go a very long way indeed; gaseous (LNG, or perhaps Hydrogen), not so versatile, but still nowhere near as bulky as coal.
Cut off a compartment, oxygen goes away, fire goes out, but they might not have closed the compartments, which is why Bailey threw the mortar round down that hole; plus, the round had a timed fuse, which means it would have gone off anyway... after a relatively long time, which is basically what happened (the roar was transmitted through the hull of the battleship and picked up by the clamps and hull of the Sutter's). with the fires, that's just added chaos...

Good news Gents! As the battle ended I was able to give Ensign Perkins a extensive physical examination{ three hours long }, and that nasty cut on her neck received in the battle, will heal without a scar! We can all breath a sigh of relief.

Very Funny Dr. Moriarty I bet that was just a gruesome three hours, wasn't it? ---------------------------- the Malcontent and the Jaguarundi both crisscrossed all over various planes just above the hull of the Schatzenjaeger, targeting anything that got in the way or anything on the hull that looked important. Soon, much of the outer hull of the massive ship was a raging inferno. I wasn't referring to mortar. I also should have kept my trap shut. ---------------------------- Please don't rescue my character by the way. I FINALLY got a good idea of what can happen and what information she can figure out. She will likely catch up. (I recommend the Osprey came back to the Badger after she was out of communication for more than 30 minutes.)

Yep, I know how the discussion thing goes. All too well. But, at least they care enough to discuss, gotta give 'em that. Didn't take as long as I thought, and everything's good. (As I post this several hours later, really it only took a few minutes. ) As for our next stop, I recall that Alexis had mentioned a Royal Botanical Society station on Venus...? And I have yet to elaborate on why it was closed down the first time... (Cue mysterious horror film music.) It may yet have problems again... Might make a good reason to go there, as well as the fact that the Drene-Vah Homebase is on Venus, and has been since the base on the moon was destroyed. Just some random ideas: The big solar storm is going to happen soon, and the Badger will need to find a place to make repairs, as well as keeping out of sight of the Schatzenjaeger and her scouts. Maybe have a station similar to Iceberg, but newer and smaller, based on a planetoid out on the edge of the Trilidian that's currently being mined, which due to the amount of rock that's been carved and blasted out of it, has an enclosed dock that's big enough to hold the Badger. (Maybe instead of a smelter station, it's a huge repair dock for the miner's ships.) This might happen to be one of the locations where the Mezetoin civilization left artifacts. Probably not a lot of ruins, but just a place to keep something hidden... Maybe a tie in with the 'Star of India' and the mysterious voices. Not a long part, but something to wrap up the chapter and give leads to Venus or elsewhere.

Come to think of it, I did imagine a huge planetoid that was mined for its rich veins of Iridium, with the iridium walls and tunnels left standing when it was realized that iridium, witha slight overburden of soil, comprised the main part of the object; Miners and their various support businesses had already begun setting up shop ina settlement called Shangri- and housekeeping in the tunnels when the discovery was made, so it was decided to keep teh station and preserve the rest of the metallic mass.
onboard are: repair Gigantic Bays foir ship storage and repairs to both miner ships and whichever British or European Alliance ships heppen by -- including warships.
DANGIT-- gotta go take care of an insurance issue. back when I can be...

Understood Miss Curious, I'll include that in my next post. Alexis and Bailey, I like the idea of the rendezvous being both out of the way and not well known except to miners - we can safely refit, then on to Luna to secure the artifacts (I already have Grey's meeting with Linton written, it's a doozy... ). While under repair, we can revisit the Metozoin founders issue, perhaps giving us a specific reason to go to Venus - ?

Okay, changing name of obscure miner station to something less...well, let's just say less stupid, shall we?
How about New Purgatory? built into the mined-hollow body of a gigantic planetary core of solid iridium, housing independent repair drydocks, most for 'no unnecessary questions asked' , entertainment (bordellos, saloons, one or two theaters, a big fighting arena with various events around teh clock, and a vendor mezzanine, and three "penny dreadful" houses), a huge fluctuating-vendor-list open market (albeit in a sealed side tunnel) where anything that can be found off-station can be sold on-station (teh miners being such pack-rats and all), three grounded-liner hotels, two built-in hotels, hundreds of flophouses and a huge residential Quarter complete with schools and other community-type things, including the religious end, and a thriving but still obscure spaceport; Cal And Zhie only mentioned it at the meeting because they had never been there. its down, down, down at the bottom of teh under-reefs...

I didn't think it was a bad name, though I do like New Purgatory. Sounds very... descriptive of the place you're talking about. Some very excellent writing, Theo. My thanks, I've been kinda busy here and somewhat distracted. I had been working on a post and not getting very far, and found that you'd written pretty much... exactly what I wanted to say, and probably a lot better than I could have said it.

Frommaguer's already in New Purgatory, and has set up berths for the Sutter's, Mad Badger, jaguarundi, and five miners who fled along with the Badger. I wrote it in that Pratt already spoke up for the ships the last time he was through, and that he had told Cal to ask them to receive the ships "for the sake of the Widow's Son."

Wanted to write today. Listened to the Archies while working on my post. Then saw a link to a Monkee's song Listened to it. Showed my mom and asked her about it. Wow. Tonight was an interesting at least 2 hour music history lesson. And we want to start a band. Going to call it "Generations" Rolling stones, started in '62 and still going. That has GOT to be a record. Nearly 50 years old. Get off my cloud is good :3 I like that one. I also learned A LOT about John Lennon. And learned about Paul Revere and the Raiders. Anyway, that means I probably won't post until tomorrow. But I thought my excuse was cool, so I thought I would share it.
Do you guys listen to music when ya'll are writing?

Heh, no, generally just the sound of the computer fan and the late (and sometimes very early) hours of the morning passing by without sleep. I enjoy a listening to music but don't do it often, usually when I do put something on, as opposed to the radio, I just take the time to listen to it, and don't do much else. I like to listen to LP's on our old record player (they actually have a much better sound quality than digital recordings, cd's, ect...) I mostly listen to Gordon Lightfoot, Abba, the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever, Victory at Sea (great music), and the soundtrack of American Graffiti I got for 50 cents at a local second hand store. We also have a recorded thunderstorm that's nice to put on late at night, and listen to it going to sleep.

I tend to listen to military-movie, pirate-movie, and classical music ...er, well, sometimes when I write the battles and the duels ,etc.
Mostly movie music, but also Classical, like Tales from the Vienna Woods, Finlandia, Siegfried's funeral, Carmina Burana (sp?) Holst, etc. etc. ...

Mr. Bailey and I seem to have very similar tastes in music, although I prefer quiet when I'm writing. Congratulations on the band, Zuttle, although I find it ironic that your "music history" was the stuff I grew up with...

On tyhe musical front, I was thinking of posting some of my clawhammer fretted and fretless minstrel banjo pieces (I only have two, at the moment, that I came up with myself). Some of my public-domain home practice recordings were on the banjohangout.org jukebox awhile back, but they've probably lapsed by now. I can't remember if the jukebox is only available to BHO members or not, but if somebody searched with this same moniker, they'd probably find at least one or two.
I should have said that I also prefer to write certain types of things (like steamwestern) to banjo music, or music with a banjo part in it; Cheyenne's Theme from Once Upon a Time In the West is a favorite; also old folkie numbers like Ballad of Jesse James, John Henry, and Old Dan Tucker...but then cue the pirate music (not just POTC themes but also chieftains Treasure Island tunes like Blind Pew and Loyals March,) for Brantley's (also Cheyenne's Theme, or the Mike Hammer or Guy Noir themes for Brantley, since he's sort of a steam western/dieselpunk/Noire crossover) or Mad Jack's entrances.

Didn't find a lot of the ones you mentioned, Did find Loyals March I like it. But Blind Pew really put a smile on my face I love good fiddle music. Found your music page I wish the recordings were better quality, But just hearing these? Makes me feel like I'm back on main street in Mount airy on Saturday morning. I miss Mount Airy so much. I like Elephants on the Roof, Julianne Johnson, and Snake River Reel although I find it ironic that your "music history" was the stuff I grew up with... Considering we now have "artists" like lady Gaga, that suddenly makes me very scared about what I will wake up to my children listening to 30 years from now.

*coughs* This IS going somewhere... But the harder I tried to get Zuttle and her dad to move on to the information he was supposed to pass on to her, the more they argued O.o So instead I decided to rewind and start a scenery change. Where the tension should be released and He can give her the information I should be doing the second half tomorrow. (After sleep.) Sorry I've taken so long

Dr. Moriarty sits in his office stomping on the useless bits of his PC.
So it goes, my PC has “crossed over into shadow” I am stuck going to the Public Library to do everything from check my email to paying my bills. I have no idea when I will be regularly on line. At least it was in a transitional part of the story. As soon as I am able I will join in as the story permits. Sorry guys,,

The page is still there!? Dang, somebody must listen to it fairly often, then! I'm Glad you like Elephants on the Roof, Theo; thats one of the ones I came up with . Julianne Johnson and Snake River Reel are traditionals; Julianne was a hit with the Dulcimer society because of the way that the OT/'Hillbilly' group Gandy Dancer played it; my rendition is different because of the slides at the beginning of Part A. I just like it better that way, and so do the audiences, apparently, so thats the way we play it now; the club's current CD (the club's only CD as a matter of fact) doesn't sound like that. Snake River Reel is a favorite jam tune at festivals in these parts. Sorry about the sound quality; its a homemade setup, really just a digital mike in springbox that hangs on my wall over the computer; I will probably change it over to an old-fashion can-hanging-on sprigs sometime soon. People have mentioned mount airy before, funny thing, but I've never been there (LOL). I played Elephants on my "resurrected" spun-over-rim openback banjo (calle dthus because it was quite literally dead when I I got it form my cousin Merle Lee; all in pieces, and everything with a quarter-inch-thick layer of dust on it. I put it all back to gether, replaced the missing parts (such as the perch pole) and added one or two new ones. Maybe I'll post it in Tactile sometime... ---------------------------- Back to the storyline: Shall I go ahead and post the Badger, et al, docking in New Purgatory? Sorry I was out all day today, we were all seeing Mom into the surgery center at the hospital for her back surgery. I may be able to write more on Today, as I am writig this at 12:38 AM here , as I will be the one at home taking care of yardwork and making sure that the house doesn't get up and gallop away...
