I saw these two at Dragon*Con last year. They did this pic at the Atlanta Aquarium. I figure it might give you an idea or two. Oh the drill does spin!

Actually Otto that syringe looks fine, just do a steampunk paintjob and go with that. As far as not being exactly perfect, it does not need to be, if it looks good at ten feet (3 meters) then it will work. Keep in mind that this is a costume of a cartoon, close will be fine. One thing that hollywood does is make stuff from latex rubber, so the actors will not get hurt, so if you are going to do a Mark II, then use soft materials like rubber for the needle.
By the way, wonderful work!

the syringes are sitting patiently behind me, waiting for me to get cracking and work on the paint job. at least they are at the front of the line I want to make the rounded band around the front where the body meets the hand guard, just need to pick up some more epoxy putty to do it. also need to pick up some windshield adhesive to glue the bottles to the body, seems the consensus among friends that it would hold the best.

If I ma, Sir Otto, your syringe looks amazing! I too am hoping to portray a Little Sister. You see, your Syrenge is a must have for me, because I work at Gamestop and want everyone to be envious, lol. Plus, my Boyfriend and I are such HUUGE Bioshock fans! I will pay for your commission! Only if you have the free time and actually /want/ to make another one, lol. nadyanilo@yahoo.comThank you so much!

progress! just need to add a few details around the squeeze handles to make them look more busy and then time to paint. nadyanilo, I will look for another jar at work, there may be another long one on the shelf. now that I have made a couple, I know it can be made much faster. these pictures are of just the one, the other looks almost the same except the bottle isn't as angled back and the tip where the needle comes out isn't quite as rounded. you squeeze the handle to click the flashlight on and off. the squeeze handle and the safety guard it is on can twist at where it meets the body and you can unscrew the flashlight cap to change the batteries (and remove them when not in use) I used a two part clear epoxy to glue the pvc to the glass. right now the pvc coupler the glass is on can still be removed from the body and is a friction fit. I may glue the front of the flashlight to the glue inside the pvc, as the glass seems well stuck but the pvc may be dicey. the extra support to the flashlight itself will make it doubly strong. I should be able to paint it today and seal it by tuesday, ship by friday! hopefully customs won't play with it and break it.

makes me mad that I already glued he round bits onto the front, I could have cut the ends off and made it plug back together under the ring! the small band behind the round ring is loose (just paint holding it still) I could just saw through there and make two new rings to cover the seams.

got the two into the mail yesterday, ouch!
even the mail clerk felt bad for gouging me.
next time I make sure it comes apart for shipping! that, and get it done soon enough to ship them by snail.
the clerk also mentioned australia and austria, I quote "you can't afford to mail stuff to either one"
but not to worry, I have to make another and the mark 3 will be the easiest and a tutorial will make it doable by all. I hope to have it up by next week.

fruit punch for the ADAM, but it might need a little watering down so the light can get through it enough. just don't leave it in the bottle so it gets funky. * note to darkshines and pockynightmare, you might want to put a bit of vegetable oil on the rubber inside the cap so it won't stick in place too hard. one tiny drop rubbed into the rubber seal and rubber threads. the clerk told me that even the tiniest box is expensive to ship to either country, and the rates for bigger boxes are just as bad. samsamxx, you shouldn't have any problems making your own syringe, as long as the PVC pipe supplies at the local hardware are compatible with what I used. the only tools you will need is a hacksaw, sandpaper and some sort of craft knife, other than that will be paint and epoxy and the PVC pipe, fitings, flashlight and some thin plywood. this is the basic layout for the mark3, the important things are the flashlight fits inside the 3/4 inch fittings (not the pipe) fairly close and the 3/4 inch fittings fit well into the 1 inch fittings. you would have to look and see if the fittings and pipe there are either inch or mm. if they are mm, are there comparable sizes. not mentioned on the drawing is another 3/4" connector cut in two with one end on the 45 elbow, inside the 4 way and the second piece around the flashlight where it is in the 4 way, next to the pipe protector nut. holding all the pieces together are pieces of 3/4" pvc pipe cut to make nipples to glue the connectors onto. for the needle I used a bomboo stick but you could probably use a wooden rod from a craft store or even a chopstick.

what did he mean by that? is it too expensive? or is Australia too strict? Mailing to Australia is very expensive. There is a huge volume of mail and parcels between North America and Europe and therefore lots of competion and even then the prices aren't exactly cheap. A package that can be mailed anywhere in the continental USA for $18 will be costing me $70 dollars to the UK (in three days, insured, tracked and signed for) if I were to ship the same package down under, the cheapest price I can find is $168 and that is by ship (from 42 days, no insurance, no tracking or proof of delivery) The internet has made international buying fairly easy, international shipping is easier than it used to be but is far from cheap (unless the country is geared up for export - shipping from China to anywhere seems remarkably cheap, the reverse is expensive)

no, it's my pleasure to mail to you two, if I had gotten off my laurels earlier and finished them on time, I could have shipped then much cheaper without worry. my bad, my lumps!
I'm just worried the glass will get broken on the voyage. fingers crossed.

I'm sure it will be fine if its not crushable! And again, thank you! I started the construction of my dress last night, not much left to do structurally but then I have to dye it, sew bits back on that didn't need dyeing, them trim and add buttons! I could do it in a day, if I ever get a day off again!

can't wait to see your dress! I showed some of your collars to my niece, she made gurgling and cooing noises and stared intently, kinda unnerving from a 14 year old I will probably know what she wants after the holidays, chances are it will be something black on black or purple on black. she's dabbling on the neo victorian/goth edges with her clothing choices. I'm trying to lure her into the steamier waters, but my sirens song is sooooo offkey
