I live near the Bournville railway station in Birmingham.

I am very near to you in Kings Heath. There are quite a few of us in the Birmingham and West Midlands area- please keep an eye out in the geographical theme if you would like to join us on an outing at some point.

From what I remember, Taunton's a nice area.  Company I used to work for used to clean the frying ranges in some of the chip shops there... that's the only way I've seen most of the UK, cleaning chip shop frying ranges  Cheesy

I suppose you know all the best chip shops across the UK then? A worthy body of knowledge. Wink

Absolutely  Cheesy  I can tell you this as a general rule; fishing towns (or ex-fishing towns) tend to have more good f&c shops, although not necessarily the best.  But I haven't found many in landlocked towns that beat a good seaside town shop  Cheesy

Grimsby/Cleethorpes has some very good chip shops; the first meal back to the UK is fish and chips!

There's a few of us Essex people here but all the one's I've spoken to are, like me, South Essex / East London based. But you're still only 45 minutes away. Bit closer than some of our Texan chums. Grin

By the way, I asked the Mod. for this section about the fact that the main map in post one hasn't actually been updated since 2007 (!!!) as the original poster no longer visits us.
Brigadier Kitten suggested I make a replacement map.
Unfortunately I have absolutely zero idea how to go about that. I'm not, what you might call, 'computer literate'.

I'm in deepest, darkest Derbyshire..... ( Well, strictly speaking, north derbyshire..... which is very nearly Yorkshire, but I'm very careful not to venture too near the border without my trusty blunderbuss....)

I hail from Carnforth, a former railway town which is now a dormitry town. A lot of the houses were built during the Victorian age, but since ten there has been some nasty 'modern' estate developments. They don't build houses like they used to, I tell ya. The house I live in has been standing for a century and a couple of decades, and still going great. Unfortunately, it's got a modern interior, butm that can be remedied...

Once again I bemoan the lack of an  smiley.

Unless they keep the good ones locked away in Yorkshire, all the ones I have met (and I've met a lot) require a good blunderbussing!

Now I have a multi-horned dilema here!  Undecided
I was hatched in the fair city of Bristow(l), then I spent several years as a student in Coventry - although I have not been back to either place recently.  Sad
I suppose you could say my second home is Whitby Cool (as I get to visit there as many times a year as I can!)

But if you want somewhere to park my pin in the map, it will have to be Haltwhistle, the Centre of Britain.
