I was exploring local antique/ oddity/ junque stores and was lucky enough to look up at the right moment.  I spotted one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Lathem-Watchmans-Clock-W-Leather-Case_W0QQitemZ200169271788QQihZ010QQcategoryZ3929QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They were asking a pittance, so I grabbed it.  Of course, no keys came with it....so now I'm wondering how best to open the beastie.  I can find various sources of keys online for other manufacturers but not for Lathem.  I suppose I could always call the company.  They got out of the watchman clock business but they're still open in Atlanta; maybe they know of sources....

I'll try and post some pics of mine later today; esp. of the lock in question.

you could always try a locksmith or a watchmaker.  Even if they can't help you, they would probably know who could.

Locksmith should be able to open it in a trice.. BUT.. sometimes these used handcuff keys..
The locks were usually simple, and should be very easy to pick..

Thanks.  I tracked down a handcuff key during lunch hour and struck out there...not the right kind of key.  After work I'll take a shot at finding a key that fits...I swear the hole looks familiar.  If no joy is found down that route I'll take a stab at picking it.

If its a round keyhole, it could be a Detex-type key.. Florida Time Clock has those..
