Steampunk World's Fair is a little over a month away!!

ZO! For those of us headed south after the fun and festivities, Ryu and I are putting together a little side jaunt.

We found a great little place in Philly called The Franklin Fountain.
It's fantastic! The time we went we shared a massive and scrumptious sundae called, appropriately, the Franklin Mint. Smiley

Any one who'd like to join us is welcome!

The only issue being we will most likely leave at an early enough hour from the event to make it there around noon/one o'clock, so you hard partiers may miss out.

I cross posted this in the Philly thread and the SPWF thread, but you know, gotta post here too! Cheesy

Odd I had a great time last year. Might have been because of friends and activities that I was involved in at the time.
This year I am cohosting a panel on steampunk weapon making with Brute Force Studios.

Well winterfall I'm looking forward to it then. What types of weaponry exactly? Bladed, blunt, maybe a blunderbuss.

The main concentration will be fire arms. I might cover bladed weapons if I have time to mock up some more then the ones I already have. Clive indicated that he may bring some of his arsenal to contribute for the show and tell part. The SPWF folks did a grat job of polishing up the description:
Ever wonder how some people make those gorgeous Steampunk weapons?
Think that you cannot do it yourself because it is too expensive or you don’t think you have the skills or tools? Steampunk Weapons from Beginner to Intermediate is a one hour panel discussion regarding creating and modification of weapons to the Steampunk esthetic. The panel will discuss beginner and intermediate level modifications, types of weapons, parts, tools, and techniques, from the basic repainting of available plastics weapons to the more complex modification of wood and steel firearms. Topics covered will include late 19th and early 20th century examples of real weapons to draw inspiration from. Where to find items for modifications, tools needed, and skills required. The different Steampunk firearm types from, gunpowder to electricity to steam powered. Examples, in various stages of build and creative levels will be shown.
The panel will be on at 3pm on Saturday and lasts an hour, additional discussions and idea sharing may follow.

And for those who want a bit of elegance with their SPWF, Guilds own Nordic, aka Phil Powell has a panel of his own. I am going to try to get their in time, and lend a different bent to dandyism.

Friday, 11:00 PM
Dandyism
Phil Powell
Steampunk: Full of genius, engineering men and beautiful, aesthetic women.. but alas! I believe there are genius, engineering women abound, thus, the counterbalance must be found: beautiful, aesthetic MEN! Welcome to the stylistically amazing world of Dandyism whose roots stem back to before the Victorian Era but was an integral part of it.  How else would we know of Oscar Wilde or Marcel Proust or Charles Baudelaire? Come and learn about our Dandy ways, how we fit into the world of Steampunk quite elegantly, and, who knows, perhaps you too will dress up your engineer in a fine puff tie!
Phil Powell is a Dandy from the Washington, DC area, founder of Those Who Mourn (Gothic/Victorian events) as well as a proud member of SASI (Society for the Advancement of the Steamtopian Ideal).  When not venting frustration at the lack of properly elegant men's fashion accessories in today's clothing stores, or exercising his biogenetic need for alcohol at local establishments, he is happy to provide fashion tips and pointers for others willing to Dandify.

Hey folks!  Just got back from SPWF, though I didn't get to make all the panels I'd hoped.

Any word on when the next steampunk event in the local area will be, and/or where?  I'm still doing a lousy job of connecting up with DC-area steampunks, hoping to manage it better this year. Smiley  (I think my biggest problem is being absolutely terrible at doing Facebook, which....seems to be problematic in the modern era.)
