Sssh - I've managed to sneak on from work using a sympathetic visitor's laptop - don't tell anybody!Saturday, February 6th 2010The City Tavern, Bishopsgate Street, Birmingham.Dear all, Clashing horribly with the Burlesque Event (as many of you know, Burlesque is a particular interest of mine) is Dr. Agamemnon When's 4th Birmingham Birthday Bash, a second good reason to visit the City Of 1000 Trades in February! Details are a bit sketchy at the moment because I've been a bit lax over the last month or so whilst moving house (and it's not often one gets the opportunity to live in an 18th-century water-mill, so as you can imagine I've been a bit preoccupied). Last year's event seemed to be a success: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,13417.msg262788.html#msg262788Exact venue and entertainment are currently pending financial review, as the past month has been quite expensive in the "procuring Victorian furniture" department, but details will follow as soon as I've done the sums. 2009's bash featured 2 bands, 6 DJs, a magician and a burlesque dancer. This year, it will probably be me and my wind-up gramophone*, but it will still be lovely. But, hey, I've got a watermill! So I'm going to be a Aquakinetic-punk instead! All the best, Dr. W. * Actually, there will be some element of DJ activity, even if I can't sort the bands out!

The Birthday Bash will only be at the cottage if I can't secure my usual venue... a watermill party in the summer will be most agreeable though!
The dress code for February is, as usual, "Dress to Impress" - and I seem to remember that last year the Steampunk contingent were most impressive!

Venue procured! City Tavern, Bishopsgate Street B15 1EJ. A lovely Victorian pub with real ales, red bricks, and one of the most splendid original wooden bars in the City Centre.

Would you like me to put something up on the Steampunk Network and throw the invitation to all and sundry? Or is this reserved for the good people of Brass Goggles?

Update!
Good news - I've managed to secure the services of my usual DJs, who will be providing a big chunk of musical eclectica for the evening from 1920's to cutting-edge Dubstep. The search is now on for a suitably cheap band to fill the middle peaktime slot!
If you've got any ideas for lovely bands or artists with a wide appeal, who might be willing to gain some exposure but very little cash, then please do let me know!
Toodle-oo!
Dr. W.

Bah! Unless a reliable cloning device and/or time machine is invented by then, myself & the Significant Other won't be able to make it as we're due to visit my nieces (and I have to be nice to the little buggers as they'll be the ones choosing my nursing home.)
I would wish you a splendid time, but as people who have attended a Dr When "DO" previously are aware- this won't be necessary! A good time for all is assured.
Have a jig for us!

Update! Musical entertainment confirmed! Shana Tova are a lovely local 3-piece who are planning on wearing tweeds and goggles for that steampunk feel! Listen to them here!BoogieDave is a bit of a local club legend, and will be providing "bear sick dubs" (as I believe the young folk say) for those with the stamina to remain awake after 11:45pm*. Massive. The Sugarfoot Stomp will be represented by two of the lovely lady DJs from their famously eclectic club nights, playing all your favourite tunes from the 1920s to the 1970s. All the nice girls love a sailor.amoebaboy, better known to these pages as the man who made the steampunk R2D2 is also a closet DJ and will be opening the evening with a variety of ska, funk, reggae and other dance-floor fillers. Come one, come all and wear your finest! * Contains no actual bears, or bear sick. No animals were nauseated during the organisation of this party.

Update! A quick note for those of you intending to pop in after going somewhere else... as part of the 2am Licence restrictions there will be no admittance after midnight (basically, to avoid the drunken louts of Broad Street gate-crashing and drinking all the real ale I've ordered).
So, if you're coming, turn up before then!
Oh, and there may be some burlesque as well. We'll see!

Can't you get Himself to do it - it's not like he's busy or owt... I might bring spare hats, just in case anyone dares to turn up without one!

It.s a thought, but I'd prefer to finish up with one that actually looked vaguely like a hat... And what do you mean he's not busy, he's constantly having to check the playstation...

I'm just confirming that I'll be popping along too, probably with a local chum in tow. I haven't told him about the possibility of "ladies" being present though, so I would advise anyone bringing rayguns to ensure that they have a "stun" setting. (in case you don't recognise the handle and Nursie hasn't told you yet - I'm Nick from the Pirate Boat Trip in Brentford )
