Speaking of cons being expensive, is anybody attending San Japan and looking for hotel space? I have space for up to 3 and am looking for roommates!  I someone coming with me but she ended up having a work-related commitment come up last weekend so now I am in need of someone to help share the expenses!   If you are interested please let me know!

I relocated this past weekend to Leander, and just thought I would share that I get to pass by the rail-yard on a fairly regular basis now. Apparently, their steam engine is out for refurbishing, but the diesel is still there sitting out behind the shopping center. It's all a little kitschy, but hey, it's there.

 Hope your move wasn't too painful. And I hope living waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy out in Leander doesn't put too much a crimp in your life style!
 I'm debating on going to "First Thursday" for the stroll. I can make it (though I'm not sure what to wear) but would anyone else be going?

I fear with my having to work at 7am Friday that the strolls wont happen for me until I'm living further south (which should happen at some point in October, as my current place is a temporary set up). Also, I've got a date for drinks with an old coworker than I shouldn't renig on. But, if you go, have a wonderful time!

I think circumstances have conspired in my favor so I may actually be able to make it again.

I totally second that sentiment.  It's just been that kind of week...  Or couple of weeks actually.

Hello all;
My name is Christian and I have just "discovered" steampunk.  I have been doing historical reenacting for the last 21yrs. mostly American Civil War, WWI and WWII.  My wife and I are just getting started and any help would be greatly appreciated.  It all looks so interesting that I really don't know where to start!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks;
Christian

Some of your Civil War clothing- & possibly some of the other, especially if you have civilian clothing, too- can be a good start toward steampunk attire.

There was a good turnout again last night at the coffee house. The next gathering will be on August 24, I believe. And the night before is the Beer, Brass & BS gathering at Opal Divine's.

Come see us at our next gathering (assuming you're in Austin, otherwise, I'm certain I can point you towards someone who can help)! In lieu of that, delve into the depths of brass goggles, and you can pretty much find anything you may be looking for Smiley

We live just to the west of Fort Worth.  I have been looking at pics and hitting the internet for ideas and just can't seem to get enough.

Hello everyone!  I'm another newbie, though I've been aware of steampunk for many years but never participated/joined in the community.  I've finally taken the plunge though, & have a few outfits in the works.  Unfortunately the SPE Texas groups I've found don't appear very active, but this thread looks pretty recent, so here I am.  I'm north of Austin, in the Killeen area.

Welcome!  I'm actually in Cameron, and so far I haven't been able to locate any more of us in this area so I've been doing my best to meet up with the Austin crew when possible.
