Really short notice again this year, but if you're in the area or feel like makin' the trip this weekend, come check out the Bayou City Oldtime Music and Dulcmier Festival (plug, plug, plug Cheesy):
http://bayoucitymusicfest.com/

It's not a steampunk event, but the music and culture is great!

Would LOVE to go but I work weekends and I've called in sick so many times this year I'd have to call in dead.
 (damned responsibilities)

Hey, hows about you have them folks show up at "Epoch" every other Wednesday!?
Then "we" could enjoy them too? Cheesy

Tuesday nights are bloody terrible for me, seeing as I work until 8pm, then have to be back at work at 7am the next morning. Combine that with living about as far north as one could while still being in the Ausin metro area, and it just doesn't work out. Perhaps I'll get myself a hotel room in that neck of the woods some night so that I can attend, but that isn't like to be for a while yet.

Is anyone planning on going to Realmscon in Corpus in October or Clockwork Con in Austin in January?

I'll be at CockworkCon, most assuredly.

Do you know if there are any hotels close by that aren't $140+ / night?

You're not like to find anything right nearby that is inexpensive. But, there are places north of downtown that run a bit cheaper. I'd make calls to the hotels on I-35 in or around the 78752 zip-code. Assuming you've got transportation, it's not terribly out of the way, and we've got the light-rail as well (not terribly convenient, but it goes downtown)

Ok.  Thanks for the info.  I'll probably just end up booking at the Crowne Plaza.  Have to see how my finances are looking in a month or so.  Cons are expensive.   Tongue

Ain't it the truth!  However, the Clockwork Con Website is listing rooms for $99 a night.

Ok, well I'm obviously blind...  They put that horizontal line between the con pre-reg and the hotel info and my brain just stopped when it hit the line.

I will try to come also. (However, I would love sometime to meet at a place that serves beer and chips and salsa!)

I hear ya there, but the patio at Epoch serves us well for the mercurial size and arrival-times of the group.

I do believe Epoch has beer but I can't vouch for the chips and salsa. Now that I think about it, now I can't vouch for the beer either.

Spiderhouse has beer, but they're not 24/7.

I don't believe there is beer at Epoch, unless you count root beer and ginger beer, heh heh. The other problem with Spiderhouse is that 99% of the time, the service there is abysmal. They've got great sangria, but it's rarely worth dealing with the rest of it.

I hear good things about Billy's on Burnet, but I haven't been there yet. They've got beer and food, but I'm really not certain how casual their patio is...

Indeed! It was great to meet both you and Dr.Arclight! You'll have to stay longer next time, you missed the gift of WWII army/navy air crew goggles that Arvis got from a regular Epoch patron!

Oh, and *glorious* soup-catcher, by the way! I meant to comment yesterday, but, well... I was distracted Cheesy

Oh, I'm sorry I missed the gifting, and our visit was way too short. Hopefully, our next meeting will find me in better shape to stay longer. (I did however get a lot of social interacting done last night with my disparate groups.)

Glad you like the hirsute. It's not to everyone's taste. And soup catcher it is . . . just before seeing ya'll, i had to wash out some salsa and ceviche!
