Hello Texas Steam Punks!

It's so nice to meet more people in the area interested in the awesomeness that is Steampunk. I'm in Carrollton, TX which is between Denton and Dallas. I wish I had joined this forum before A-kon, though! Would have been nice to meet all of you at the convention!

I do look forward to chatting with all of you, though!

Thanks, Pennie!

Definitely! I'll keep my eye out. I would love to meet fellow steampunk enthusiasts in the area! I noticed there are a few people in this thread that are in Austin or San Antonio.. Would the get-together be at a central location for everyone in Texas, or were you thinking something for the steam punks in the DFW area? I am not opposed to a road trip, I am simply curious.

The Austin members meet almost weekly, they have a thread somewhere that gives details to their activities. Those of us in the DFW area are trying to get a coffee get together sometime soon, though we haven't decided on a location. I don't know of any other groups of Texas members meeting up in San Antonio or Houston.

I will playing with a few members of the North Harris County Dulcimer Society and several members of San Antonio's Texas Dulcimers again at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio this weekend (Hemisfair Park) in The Barn (near the 'back' of the property). Weather forecasts say that it is not supposed to be as hot as it was last year, so it will probably be safe for anyone in the area to come on out and see my fat self playing flute, fife and banjo (but not all simultaneously) along with the dulcimers.

We're taking the club's teaching dulcimers, as we plan to teach interested people about the mountain dulcimer.

So come on out and see what we look like in pioneer duds Wink in period costume...
Wow, this sounds like fun. I wish I could be there.

I know April of 2011 is a ways off yet, but they are already planning the Oklahoma Steampunk Expo up in Oklahoma City. I am SERIOUSLY considering spending the money to get a booth. If anyone is interested in splitting a table/booth with me let me know. I think it would be a lot more fun to have someone to share with than to sit there by myself!

The site says the theme of the ball is going to be Steampunk! How cool..... the Dallas SCA group does demos there all weekend so I was thinking about going down to help with that. Might have to look into doing steampunk as well.

hello again! I was briefly active here a couple months ago but kept getting banned (IP address problem). Hopefully that's all sorted out now and I can rejoin you Smiley I wish I'd been able to go to A-kon. Maybe next time... or the other con you linked, Larry. I hadn't heard of that one!

Hi all.  Its great to see so many steampunk aficionados in Texas!  I'm from the DFW area so I'm excited about the DFW group getting underway, since I'm new to steampunk (blame it on A-kon ;p) and I am eager to learn more.  A steampunk expo in Oklahoma City sounds pretty cool though.  Roadtrip!

I gifted the Clockyard sculpture to Abney Park at A-kon. And we sort of met after their Q&A session while getting autographs. You were showing your awesome hat to Robert and Daniel.

Hey, who's up to getting together to go see Jonah Hex? Check out this review:
Quote
Whipping through its spaghetti Western/post-Civil War swampland ghost story in just 83 minutes, Jonah Hex is lean, mean and brimming with wicked steampunk weaponry.

Would anyone be interested in going steamy for Dickens on the Strand?

It will be December 4th and 5th this year.

Hee hee. I am so going to have to steampunk my pluck dulcimer. I suppose then I'll have more motivation to practice.  Grin

Thank you. I do enjoy creating things, that is for sure. I have so many things started that I need to finish. Sometimes, though, it is a matter of waiting for the right piece or part to come along...

Yes, road trip to Oklahoma City. I am so up for going to the expo next spring. I will be looking for a helper too...someone to help me work my booth and let me take a break now and then......

Yep, they are. I still play mine occasionally, but these days I'm mostly backing up, etc. on Banjo, folk fife, and Irish flute. Great bunch of people to jam with, especially at festivals (like the one posted, hint, hint...)

I'd like the see that! Maybe pipes, a gear train, and such? I keep intending to do something similar to one of my banjos, but so far I lack the time when I have the money and materials, and vice versa. maybe someday...

Welcome, Cracked Monocle! I myself was bred and buttered in Lubbock - Monterey, Tech and whatnot. These days I am around the Capitol City, but still have many West Texas friends. Perhaps we'll meet in the future at a Texas gathering.
