I went to A-Kon once, my friend abandoned me because he had ticket money and I didn't, and the other friends that showed up did much the same. Well that sucks. I wouldn't do that to anyone.

I thought he wouldn't either, but he wanted to see the dealer room and the shows... I was left sitting on the floor in, I guess, Artist's Alley watching people go by. My other friends found me, asked me how I was doing then went off to either find the first friend or something (I probably told them I was "fine" but c'mon...). so I just up and left my friend there. didn't phase him at all cause he found someone at the Con that he could room with. I swear, he's slicker than cow shit and can get out of any predicament I digress, airing my grievances isn't what this thread is for *bow* my apologies

So when you found out that Abney Park was coming to town did you have a reaction of, "OMG what am I going to wear?" Or is that just me?

Hm. I was wanting to go to A-Kon this year anyway. Would be nice to do so with fellow Steampunks.
I'm out of the Arlington area myself, right next to UTA.

I'm buying my tickets tonight. When it gets close we ought to set a date and time. I've been to a lot of them so I'm fairly familiar with the layout of the Sheraton. The front lobby is a really good meeting place. ~ Larry

I'm going to go ahead and post this, even though it is way in advance. If you are a fan of anime or conventions in general, then you either have been to or have heard of the Dallas anime convention, A-Kon. Well it has been announced that Abney Park will be playing at the convention. The convention will be June 4-6 at the Sheraton Dallas and Abney Park is scheduled to play Saturday the 5th as the main headliner. Links to band site and convention site: http://www.abneypark.com/http://a-kon.com/I will most likely be going, as I'm local to Dallas, but wanted to share so that if any of you were interested you can go ahead and start planning. Oooh, ooh.....bought my tickets a few weeks ago, as soon as the Abney Park announcement was official. My daughter and I are going...she for the anime, me for the steampunk and both of us for AP. I saw them in San Jose at Steampowered several years ago and got to meet them. What a fun group of people, and great musicians too! And I think a get together at A-Kon would be a wonderful idea. I have found no steampunk activity at all in my area (I am in Sherman, about an hour from the Frisco/Denton area and maybe a bit more from Dallas proper) so A-Kon is a great place for me to mingle, etc. I am working on a new outfit, though still just vague ideas. Hopefully they will be less vague as we get closer!

Oh, and speaking of A-Kon... I am planning on getting a room but really cannot afford both nights on my own. Since it will be me and teenage daughter I was wondering if there were any female steampunks looking to go that might be willing to share a room. My daughter and I will share one queen bed which leaves a 2nd for one or two others.....please let me know soon if you are interested!

Just so everyone is aware: Aggiecon is this weekend, from Friday the fifth through Sunday the seventh, in College Station. I hope some folks will be able to come!

My wife and I bought our tickets last night. She's never been to an anime convention before so it'll be a new experiance for her, which will be fun. Plus, if my Meniere's Disease flares she can be there to keep me from falling on my face.

*explodes* This is what I get for not keeping up with con-related news. Time to squeeze money out of various people and get a group to go.

I'm thinking that I might be able to make it to Aggiecon for a very short time tomorrow (Saturday). Its a rather long way from Houston, but nothing I haven't driven at least half the distance to for a Dulcimer Society play, and not even half as far as Palestine (OT and dulcimer festival there annually in March). It's also right at tax time for us in this family, so it might be dicey, but we'll see.

I have one and tried to learn to play it but I'm so musically challenged I could never learn.
