Nikola Tesla has a serious grudge against Thomas Edison for reneging on promised payment for extensive modification work on Edison's designs... Not to mention the latter's refusal to see the superiority of Tesla's Alternating Current over his inefficient Direct Current technology...
Shrewd businessman Edison is sick to death of the claims of this upstart "dreamer" and wants to put an end to his complaints once and for all. PLUS he's caught wind that Tesla's found the elusive element Unobtainium, crucial for both men's inventions...
...and On Nov. 10th & 11th, 2012, it all comes to a head! Don't miss the chance to be a part of it!
Built around the imaginary world of the mining town of "Unobtainium, TX" and featuring an epic dust-up between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison, the event will immerse attendees in a virtual-world-made-real focused on a fictional knock-down, drag out brain duel between these two brilliant inventors.
The purpose is to entertain, certainly, but also to inspire and educate, and will feature demonstrations, talks and mini "maker" workshops sprinkled throughout the event over the course of the weekend.
Visitors will be able to purchase artisanal creations - augmented technology, fashion, objets d'art and more - from handpicked purveyors of cutting edge steampunk and technological wonders in our recreated "ghost town" 30-minutes SE of Austin. Theatrical set design and costumed actors and attendees will heighten the illusion of a mining town that destroyed itself through greed. Music will serenade guests throughout both days and all will by encouraged to cut a rug with a waltz or a jig on the dance floor.
In the evening, as the sun goes down, flickering lights and shadows on blowing backdrops may allow the occasional glimpse of the ghosts of Unobtainium. The footloose frolics of the day will grind down to a slower, more ominous tone as the frantic mining town trapped behind the curtain of time and space becomes more evident.
Arch-rivals Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison will be trading barbs throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. The actual "Showdown" will occur on Saturday night at 10 pm and re-occur Sunday at 5:00 pm. Not unlike a political candidate's forum, the brain duel will start out somewhat civilly, with questions posed by our celebrity moderator, but will denigrate into the knock-down, drag out you've been waiting breathlessly for! Sparks will fly. Ray guns will be drawn. History will be re-made!
Our VIP guests (including top-level sponsors) will witness the action whilst they enjoy a luxurious exclusive reception area featuring "The Mad Hatter's Saloon" which includes complimentary delectable comestibles and period libations created by Chris-Rachael Oselund, author of Steamdrunks: 101 Steampunk Cocktails and Mixed Drinks, as well as other surprises!
