Well! It certainly gives me time to consider being able to make it. And I am definatly interested! I will serriously consider the dates in question for my up comming vacation bid at work. If all goes well I may have room in my truck for carpooling efforts. Arvis Well, the moment of truth has come and gone for me. It seems that I will be unable to attend as my vacation bid at work was unsuccessful. I didn't realize this was durring "spring break" and a lot of senior personel beat me to it. :p Ah well, mabey next year. Arvis

In 1881 the Texas Capital burnt down, in 1884 strange occurrences disrupted shipping along the Gulf of Mexico, now strange airships to the west of Galveston have been spotted. All around Texas, trouble is breaking out, and it all seems to be headed towards one location. Austin. Something is happening down here in the south... Be Prepared. --------------- The third weekend of January 2012 (20-22nd), the Steampunk Company, Cracked Monocle, will be hosting the Steampunk Convention, Clockwork Con, in Austin Texas. This will be an event not to miss and a great way to start 2012 with the turning of gears and hissing of steam engines. We have plans for a story driven weekend, panelists from across the country, and a desire to become the makers fair for steampunk in the south. More information on this event coming along soon, you can keep track of the Convention by checking out the Facebook PageCheers! ~Alex Whisenhunt

Hey folks. I am new to the boards figured I should introduce myself here as well. I live in Fort Worth. And just to head the question off at the pass, I will be attending AllCon. I will be spending a lot of my time with the Mandalorian Mercs, but I will be in Steampunk garb for at least one day of the con. For those attending AllCon, please swing by the Mercs table and ask for Josh or Harro. In my steampunk garb, I will most likely be introducing myself as J. Allen MacGregor.

Always good to see another local who'll be attending. We will definitely be there in at least some capacity the entire weekend. Should be some extremely interesting panels. Will definitely be a bit of merriment.
Do feel free to stop in on one of the local meetings and introduce yourself.
Until perchance we meet, Captain Quinlin Hopkins

BaronPablo,
Nice to see you here. I was just dropping in to mention your event and see you've already made mention of it. Was a pleasure meeting you at All-Con, and though brief, I believe our time together was fairly well spent. Looking greatly forward to this event.

The Steampunk Bible release! May 1st event at US Arts Authority Dear Ladies and Esteemed Gentlemen: I'm writing this news bulletin to inform you about the developments on my early efforts to be counted in the Steampunk Bible. Rather than give you a litany of details, I'll just say that it all started with my inquiry on getting included in Jeff VanderMeer's Steampunk Bible. In the end my work was not published in the book, but I was included in the "master Index" of the Steampunk Bible. Also, I learned of an event that is coming to Austin, related to this publication, and I think I'll let you read the relevant correspondence below. Suffice it to say that the release of the Steampunk bible is coming with great fanfare to Austin, and there will be a reception / party at 7:00 PM on May 1 at US Arts Authority. The presence of Steampunks in full garb is requested. Notable personalities in the party include Ms. Chambers, of course as well as Rick Claw, Jess Nevins, and possibly Michael Moorcock. Location: United States Arts Authority, 2906 Fruth Street (next to Spiderhouse), Austin, TX 78705 (512) 480-9562 Cheers, J. Wilhelm ~~~ Message to: S. J. Chambers, Master Archivist December 14, 2009 Dear Ms. Chambers: I write to you from our fair City of Austin, in the Republic of Texas, in reference to Mr. VanderMeer's excellent efforts on the creation of the "Steampunk Bible." Among our local and very loosely-knit steampunk circles I go by the name of "J. Wilhelm" ( http://community.livejournal.com/seaholm_steam/). I just wanted to add my small contribution by exposing some of the very beginnings of this movement here in Austin, as there seems to be no slow-down, as some might suggest. Quite to the contrary, the movement is still emergent, and there is a fair amount of interest from people who still don't know about Steampunk and Neo-Victoriana, but are first exposed to this movement. This place is a good snapshot of the "beginning processes," so to speak. So new is the Art in the Austin/San Antonio area, that we are still just barely discovering one another after a year-or-so in the blog circles (e.g. refer to these blog entries: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1502.375 ) . For my part, my contribution is limited to the manufacture of "Calculation Engines" (i.e. computers), of which I think that Austin is a natural location for this type of industry ( http://www.victoriansteam.baroquestone.com). My devices, are just a meek re-interpretation of the work done by the "steampunk elders," a.k.a. Jake Von Slatt, and Nagy "Datamancer," but the local response to my machines from the public has been positive (in spite of the simplicity of my efforts). My point being that the public is certainly fascinated by this style, provided the right exposure. I look forward to the release of Mr. VanderMeer's Steampunk Bible. Please feel free to contact me or the members at the Seaholm Steam & Diesel blog group if you require any more information Sincerely, J. "Wilhelm" Dunn Aeronautical Engineer and Calculation Engine Fabricator Message to: John "Wilhelm" Dunn December 11, 2010 Hi John, I'm crawling out of the woodwork because The Steampunk Bible is now in its final stages. It is slated to be released May 1st, and it just so happens I'll be in Austin around that time. I was wondering if you and the Austin Steampunks would be interested in helping me celebrate its release? Are there any events going on at that time? At the moment, I was thinking of having an event at BookPeople, but if you know of any other things steampunk going on, I am open to suggestions. Looking forward to hopefully meeting you and your crew, S. J. Chambers Message to John "Wilhelm Dunn: March, 28, 2011 John, I *finally* have details on this. The Steampunk Bible will be released May 1st, at the U.S. Arts Authority. The party begins at 7 pm, and includes Myself, contributors Rick Klaw, Jess Nevins, and possibly Michael Moorcock. I would love for you and the Austin Steamers (in full garb I hope!) to come out and help me celebrate, and if you'd like to say a few words to the people about what you guys do and what Steampunk means to you, I would love it. Also, I will make sure to run a feature on you guys on the Steampunk Bible website. Let me know if you all are available, S. J.

J. Wilhelm,
I thought about you as I hit Austin on the trip home, but I had forgotten to pull the address with me. Thus making an appearance a bit difficult. Hopefully you had a great evening, and we're looking forward to seeing the book soon. I did have a chance to finally meet the Squire. Though my time was unfortunately too limited to chat as much as I'd have liked.
Meander,
Glad you've found us finally, please do come by as soon as you schedule permits. I know we've a meeting this Thursday, and a fencing class Saturday. There are usually a few meetings a month, and all are welcome.

Begging your pardon, How does one join the Texas Steampunks? The only link for such that I was able to find appears to be in the Forum section (it's entirely possible that I simply failed to see an obvious link elsewhere). I applied to a 'Texas Steampunks' page earlier this year, but Life and general shakeups deprived me of both the confirmation email and my computer, so the email and the information it contained were lost. Would this page in your BG post and the one I applied to earlier be one and the same?

I'm pondering a return to the forums, or, at least, a return to this particular section. In the spirit of that, hello to those of you I abandoned here, and hello to those of you I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting!
I am Abi, currently found within Austin in the great Republic of Texas, and I miss my steampunks. Feel free to say hello, and if you're local, to let me know where the gatherings are these days!

Welcome back Miss Abiliegh!
We Austin Steampunks still meet at Epoch coffee every other Wednesday and our group has only gotten stronger! We still get new folks and some just come and go as they please. There is also a meeting for all local area Steampunks every third Tuesday at Opal Divine's on south Congress.
Sure nice to hear from you again!

I'm so glad to hear that! I tried to get to the old Ning, and it didn't seem to exist any longer.
Is tonight a gathering, or next wednesday? I work around the corner from Epoch, and while I've other engagements this evening, I truly hope to revive my attendance!
