Still trying to find the right format for the Ning thing.

Blog style maybe?

JJ

What do you need a format for on ning?

I am going, and so is PennieNevan. We should absolutely plan a get-together! Maybe breakfast one day?

I agree. My wife and I will be checking in Friday to our hotel room and won't be leaving until Sunday afternoon. I'm cool with breakfast at least. One problem is that Dallas still rolls up the downtown streets at nights and weekends. So there aren't many places to go eat.

Costumes are almost done, just need to finish the accessories and make final decisions. I am so ready for AKon and to meet up with all our lovely members.

My daughter, her friend and I will be checking in Friday afternoon as well. I have the afternoon off and Thursday is their last day of school so we will be getting down there, hopefully, by 3 or so. There are some folks from the Texan Aether and Steam group from Stempunk Empire on ning who are also planning on meeting. We definitely need to find a place to moor our ships and a time to gather. Not having been to A-Kon before I don't know the layout of the hotel or if they have some type of message board. If nothing else, one can hope they have a message board where attendees can post messages for one another.

I have things to finish on my costumes as well. Sewing buttons on my vest right now, in fact Smiley

There will be at least one restaurant in the hotel, and I am fine with just meeting there.  It would be much easier than trying to coordinate an outing at the last minute.

I think the Sheraton is new for A-Kon, so you won't be the only confused wanderer. Smiley

I've been going for years. The name of the hotel is new but not the location. It used to be called "Adam's Mark."

We've changed our schedule. My wife and I will be there Thursday night at the hotel. All registered and set.

Our costumes are all set to go. Friday I will be in all black carrying a dragon claw cane and wearing a black fedora. My wife will be in all white with a red shawl. You won't be able to miss us. On Saturday we're going steampunk.

The restaurant is an interesting idea. I was going to recommend the General Hall near the doors on the first floor. This is where everyone usually registers and it's near the parking garage. Most of the activities happen inside the various floors. Here's a map, though I understand it's out of date I doubt if it's dramatically so.
http://www.a-kon.com/bm/bm~doc/first-floor-map.jpg

But I'm cool with the restaurant if that's what others prefer. At least we can sit down if we want to.

How about a roll call? Post if your going, how many in your group, when you will be there, and where you would like to meet. I will start:

Yes, I'm going, 2 People (my wife and I), we will be there Thursday night and plan to leave sometime Sunday afternoon, open minded on where to meet.

All right you steampunks! Sound off!  Grin

I will be arriving Friday afternoon. My daughter and her friend will be with me but they are not steampunking it. They are manga/anime fans so will not figure into plans to meet.

Restaurant is fine with me. From what I see on the hotel web-site there is a casual restaurant (The Kitchen Table) and a coffee/tea cafe (Peet's Coffee and Tea). The latter is only open until 2pm so if you want to meet Friday afternoon/evening I'd say the former would be better.  The other two restaurants listed are a sports bar and an ice cream place.

I still haven't decided which outfit to wear when but I will be carrying an olive drab canvas bag (old army map case) and my name tag will say "Miss Catlin" (I think that's what I put on it).

I'll be at AKon, just me, though you will probably find me with Raas. I don't know the hotel very well, but I do like the idea of meeting at a restaurant, just cause we can sit down and its easy place to locate people. I'll be there just on Saturday, though I may be lingering over to Sunday morning, and I'll be in steampunk all day and night, with two different outfits of course. Wink I'm just about done with my handbag and I should be all set, depending on extra accessories I may or may not bring. See you all this weekend, so excited!!

Mister Wells, did you forget to change your avatar, or do you in fact resemble a box of gears? I'm not judging, I just want to know what to look for.

I suppose I ought to put up an avatar...I have no good pictures of myself. Sad

Doing my best to make it.  I've been informed that after taking a 4 day this holiday to run another show, that, in all probability, I will be working both Saturday and Sunday. Definitely cuts into the plans.  Hoping to wiggle my way out of it.  Planning to at least make it in the afternoon on Saturday and stay as late as I can make it.  I live within an hour of the hotel anyway, so wasn't planning on staying overnight.

Hmmm.  What to wear though.  I'll try to remember to take and post a pic later in the week as I'd hate to miss meeting any of you.

I have the Abney Park concert from A-kon on video but it is fairly long so not sure where to post it. If you are interested in a particular song I can edit that down and send it to you. I have already pulled the section where one of our members got to go up on stage during Airship Pirates. If you are out there let me know and I will send that to you!

I know they were recording for archiving purposes themselves.  But no idea if that video will ever be released or not.  Any possibility of getting your recorded version burned on a dvd?  I could easily make copies for the local group.  Sending out for the cost of a disk and packaging if you've not the time.

Not a problem. Do realize that I was right of center stage (or stage left if you are theatrically inclined) and behind the "press" people in front of the chairs so there are times when people walk in front of the stage, etc.  And I would ask that you please not charge for any copies you make as I feel that would not be fair to the band.  I will try to get it burned onto a DVD in the next few days if you can let me know where you would like it sent to (unless you will be up in the Sherman/Denison anytime in the near future).

I remember you. You were in line for autographs with Abney Park following their Q&A session and Robert was looking at your hat.

No you misunderstand me.  Simple the cost of the blank dvd and the postage.  I'd never try to make money in that manner.  Probable safer yet to just send them for free and avoid that connotation all together.  So free it is.  I'll pm you with contact details.

I will playing with a few members of the North Harris County Dulcimer Society and several members of San Antonio's Texas Dulcimers again at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio this weekend (Hemisfair Park) in The Barn (near the 'back' of the property). Weather forecasts say that it is not supposed to be as hot as it was last year, so it will probably be safe for anyone in the area to come on out and see my fat self playing flute, fife and banjo (but not all simultaneously) along with the dulcimers.

We're taking the club's teaching dulcimers, as we plan to teach interested people about the mountain dulcimer.

So come on out and see what we look like in pioneer duds Wink in period costume...
