Great idea. Hi y'all from Mesquite, Texas, which is east of Dallas.

I've been looking around for events in my area but haven't found much so far. I'm in Denton but traveling isn't a problem.

Denton and Mesquite are only about an hour apart. In fact, my wife and I go up to Denton all the time since our daughter is a student at UNT.

Hey I'm up in Denton as well, but have also not found any steamers near by to hang with. It's nice to see that there are a couple up in my woods.

Howdy from College Station! There's an unfortunate dearth of steampunkery in my immediate vicinity.

Quite an interesting idea, though we're probably spread out more than some other countries.  I'm located just south of fort worth.  Though I seem to have less and less time for any type of gathering.  Quite nice to know a few of you are within a stone's throw (relatively speaking).

You might keep me in mind if you need some parts for something.  We're always tossing out some interesting goodies. Right now I've actually got about $25,000 worth of composite material that's about to go in the dump because no one will take it.  And there are always smaller goodies that can be re-purposed.

Hello from Austin (previously San Antonio)! I'm always down for a good session of steamery, and I travel regularly.

Miss Holmes, it appears that you too have moved! I'll actually be heading into College Station next week. Not staying long, because we're heading to Louisiana Thursday night, but if you're down for lunch or something, I could head into town early!

San Antonio reporting for duty! Perhaps we should hold a weekend convention of some kind?

I bilocate, Abi. Grin I'm always to be found either in College Station or San Angelo.
I'm afraid I won't be back in CS until the 18th or so, though.

For those of you who shack up near the Alamo or are actually willing to travel to our forsaken lands, San Antonio has its own Steampunk/Neo-Victorian organization made up of various different shades of miscreants called the San Antonio Neo-Victorian Association for short. You may find us on Facebook here:

As an update to the San Antonio fellows, we're having a meeting on Sunday, 1/17, in order to plan for future events and meet new members of our San Antonio Neo-Victorian Association. If you'd like to meet other San Antonio retro-futurists of various stripes, do come!

We will be meeting at the following location at 8 PM:

La Madeline at Northwoods
18030 US Hwy 281 N, Suite 201
San Antonio, TX

I'm going to go ahead and post this, even though it is way in advance.

If you are a fan of anime or conventions in general, then you either have been to or have heard of the Dallas anime convention, A-Kon. Well it has been announced that Abney Park will be playing at the convention. The convention will be June 4-6 at the Sheraton Dallas and Abney Park is scheduled to play Saturday the 5th as the main headliner.

I will most likely be going, as I'm local to Dallas, but wanted to share so that if any of you were interested you can go ahead and start planning.

This sounds great. Last year was the first time in years that I hadn't gone to A-Kon. Up until then my daughter and I had gone several years.

I'm now planning on going to this one.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm one of the Austin crew and will now be planning to go to this event for the sole purpose of seeing Abney Park!

I'd forgotten about that convention.  I went 25 years ago or so.  might have even been called something else back then.  I've an exam scheduled that morning, but might actually be able to make it to a saturday evening event.

This is cool. All of us that go should really try to meet up together. I always go at least one day in some type of costume. The last few times, obviously not last year, I went as a hobbit since I'm real short in height.  Cheesy This year I'm definitely going steampunk.

Roanoke telegraphing in.  I'm about 20m via I-35 from Ft. Worth, I can see the skyline. I'm spitting distance from the Raceway if that helps anyway

I'd love to meet and get together with other steampunks and have often wondered if there were any close or was I doomed to singularity

I went to A-Kon once, my friend abandoned me because he had ticket money and I didn't, and the other friends that showed up did much the same.

I am, again, glad to know others are here.

I know where that is, have to pass through there to get to Ft. Worth. Glad to meet you and maybe we will all get to have a gathering before seeing Abney Park.

You know Roanoke?  cool.   Ah, I'd like to but I've not gone to a-kon in years due to my crap-ass friend leaving me high and dry the one year I went. not sure I'd have the money to buy a ticket and I most certainly won't be able to dress "in" steampunk ^^

June eh.  >> maybe I can at least go
