It's been a while but if memory serves, you take a firm hold of the crystal knob and ease the handle forward (or back).

Yep. Automatic vs. manual time machines. I used to prefer manual, but no one else knows how to drive them, and what if I want to have a few drinks and need someone else to drive us home from the 19th century?

Oh, you are beautiful! No really, you are, you're gorgeous! Space-age clockwork, I love it, I've got chills! Listen, I mean this from the heart - and by the way, count those - it would be a crime, it would be an act of vandalism to disassemble you.

But that won't stop me.

Well, shall we take a trip somewhere?  I say to 3022, I know this excellent place that still serves coffee and I like giving them my business (Lord knows nobody else in that year does)

Yargh, coffee in 3022 or any year sounds great right now. I've spent the weekend working on altering a pattern. So freaking tired of this project. And also just tired.

An excellent cosplay pic Neon.
I was sent a nummy treat this week that might just tickle your fancy. It’s a fashion blog post in praise of androgynous beauty, so there is a bit of inevitable artistic nudity. So, NSFW unless you’re in the fashion industry yourself children. There is a steam punk feel to some of the images but I simply think that the SP image of the plucky tomboy heroine has seeped into fashion in a way that will be interesting to see in the coming year. However the real winners are two classic photographs of Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich sporting menswear.

neon_suntan, that cosplay... HAAAANDSOME! Cheesy

Sphinx - many thanks for the link. Smiley I like the quote at the bottom: "They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if banal is for you then you will certainly be spoilt for choice…" Yes. This. I met a gay man recently who does makeup at a local strip joint, and he invited me to come visit sometime, assuring me that he could get me in for free. I thanked him and said I appreciate the offer, but it's just not for me. I had a hard time coming up with a simple explanation as to why, but banal would have done the trick. My mid-sized city isn't large enough to support a burlesque troupe or an alt strip club, and any strip joint here falls under the category of skinny women with big fake boobs, with a look that is aimed directly at the most mainstream of tastes. Which is a shrug-enducing look for me.

Seems to be a lot of cross-dressing cosplay these days, which I like to see.

I may have mentioned this... waaaaay back on this part of BG before and this is a slight cross-post but has anyone here seen the low-budget Lovecraftian horror Cthulhu. I mention it purely because of the love story at the centre of the plot.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now of course I know that Lovecraft had some very unpleasant opinions, which even allowing for the time were fairly extreme, but this is a unique if somewhat lo-fi take on a great horror story.
Although...

It took me a second to recognize Tintin. At first it registered as "cosplay, cute soft butch, cosplay, cosplay." Cheesy

There was a lot of gender-swap cosplay at Dragon*Con last year, and I must confess that I like it a lot. In addition to it often being very sexy, it reminds me of when I was young and me and my best friend often dressed as male characters for Halloween. Smiley

Best not to search gender swap cosplay on image search....   Shocked

Thankfully I have the nice folk at io9.com to thank for the above images... Can anyone find any better images though...  maybe a cross-dressing steampunk Abraham Lincoln with mechanical arm and stake gun... ?
