Eek, very awkward.Did you get on with his parents?

I have to say that I got on quite well with an ex's family. They never expressed wether they thought I was perfect for him but when we broke up I quite missed them.

Hello everyone.

This is a freindly and fair reminder that the last single steampunks thread was closed due to a massive amount of idle chat.

I don't want to have to close this one for the same reason.

As far as I recall, weren't the meta-clubs exempt from that particular rule of _constantly_ being on-topic?
True enough, a certain amount of thread drift is to be expected. However, the past few pages have been rather silly. Stay on topic.

right, on topic then:

How massively awkward is it to meet your ex-boyfriend and his mother in the street, when said mother the last time you met her gushed "you are the perfect woman for my son!"? Answer: very very awkward... Sad

Ouch! One of those sorts of situations you feel awkward about long after?

I felt awkward for quite a while.. but there is nothing I can do. I never met his father, but his father apparently expressed quite the interest in meeting me *sigh*

<snuggles>

Parents are funny things. My father hated my brothers partner for about...3 years, then suddenly got along with her. I think my mother kicked his derrier about it, as he was very cruel and snide to her. I dread having a relationship because of my mother, she's always interested in any new relationships I have and wants to know -everything- about the poor girl involved  Tongue I think she's desperate for grandchildren.

"Awkward beyond words." ironically sounds like a good approximation. That's why I'm glad my ex is a couple thousand kilometres away.

I'm confused by your use of "ironically."

I wore by bowler today. Smiley  People in the grocery store gave me odd looks, but that's all.  And then, since I wore the bowler, I had to wear the suspenders.  And then, since I was wearing the bowler and the suspenders, I had to wear my trench coat.  But the people in the store could only see the bowler and the coat.  Perhaps they were unaware that it was POURING outside, and so were confused by the hat thing.

If you expect to go through more boyfriends, then look forward to more of that, Ms. Poison. At least, so long as they actually have mothers. You've got a pretty face and your Bavarian orderliness, and then top that out with a tight bun of hair and an apparent taste for sowing and traditional dresses, and what you have is a stepmother's dream.

I'd recommend that you start chugging beer, dressing more loosely, chewing tobacco and training for the shot put. Tongue

OK, I'm dropping the font silliness because I'm being serious.
Nik,
I think that you do a great job as a mod, so I want to make it clear that this is not an attack on you.
This post is being made because I feel there is some clarification needed. I would have done it via PM, but I feel that said clarification would be to the benefit of all.
S.Sprocket posted the rules to the Meta-Clubs. In those rules that pertain specifically to Meta-clubs it states:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
None of this mentions topic or the need for one.
I'm not looking for any kind of gray area, I'm looking to eliminate them.

How are we off-topic? Below is an excerpt from the first post in this thread.

Welcome to the The Lonely Gear!
This is a place for single Steampunks to come and chat about whatever comes into their minds to chat about.
Pull up a chair, grab a drink, and be welcome here!

If talking in general about whatever we please is off topic, then what of the other Meta-clubs?

If this is truly a question of band-width, then I'd like you to know that I've been trying to save you some money by going back and deleting my posts from 2009 and earlier.

Please, I hope no one takes this as an attack or just whining, I really do feel that things are unclear as they stand and would like them to be clearer.

I've not seen any posts talking about staying on-topic in any of the other Meta-clubs and would just like to understand what's going on.

Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience.

It's also nice to get to know people one occasionally meets in person.  Good for networking or whatever it is they call it these days.

Personally, I feel like a simple cross-referencing of this thread with the pre- and post- con discussions of the Worlds Fair would make that point very Clear and Relevant, Minjoltr... but what do I know?

a quick recap of my recent "dating" shenanigans...

i've been on quite a few first dates, not so many second ones. with the exception of one victim, i'm not at all disappointed. i've learned that my friends generally have the worst taste in suitable bachelor/ettes, and for the good of the nation they must be stopped.

my ex-fiance got married on Sunday. i found out on Monday - via third party (who honestly didn't know i was unaware) and the book of face. there were many unladylike words and quite a bit of uncontrollable sobbing. after that, there was a hefty intake of alcoholic beverages and liberal use of concealer. now i'm counting down to when he pays back the money he owes me, which i fully intend to blow on a new corset, pretty shoes, and taking quite a few friends out for dinner.

the bulk of my time has been spent with my neighbor and fellow Dr. Steel advocate. his friend apparently thinks i'm fascinating.

that's pretty much the sum of it. it seems quieter here than i remember - hopefully due to less singles in the bar?
