Hello. Smiley I'm Minx. This is my first post so if I'm doing it wrong or in the wrong section, let me know. I'm just kinda doing the best I can.

I'm soon to be ordering this as my first Steampunk piece.

I plan on putting a cream coloed peasant-like shirt under it and I wanted a skirt as well, but i'm not sure what kind of skirt. Shorter? Longer? I can't decide. But I know it's the acessories that are really going to make the outfit. Any advice?

Very nice choice of bodice Smiley

My first recommendation would be to think on what sort of persona (if any) that you'd like to have. As an example, my Steampunk person is that of a Detective Inspector who investigates the Occult & Supernatural, and am constructing my kit around that theme.

My second recommendation would be to roll your sleeves up and dedicate some time to skip through the Dressing Up thread for ideas. Tons of outfits & ideas inside that thread Smiley

As an after thought, it might be worth having a look at vintage photographs from the mid-late 1800s to get more ideas for attire.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm currently going through the Dress Up thread as we speak. Smiley I'm a bit unfamiliar with Steampunk, but trying. And hm, a pesona? If I had to describe my actual pesonality, I'd say I'm a smart, outgoing, young girl. Sometimes I DO like to consider myself a bit of a mad scientist, and while I love make up and hair and such, I find myself being one of the boys more often than not.

Think of it as more of a theme, rather than a persona (probably a bad word to use in that instance).
Most important is to go for items that you think would look great both as a steampunk garment and as something that you'd love to wear Smiley

I added you on MSN, by the way. I thought it'd be nice to chat, if you're able and willing. Rather than clogging up the forum with my stupid questions, lol.

Not stupid questions, you asked for opinions, you'll recieve them Smiley I'm sure other people will be able to be far more helpful than I have. Might be worth checking out other peoples costume threads, and see if there's any advice offered in those that might help you out.

Welcome to the forum! I think we're all at least a teeny bit mad scientist here, just look in the recent thread on ball-jointed dolls where you'll find a picture of a My Little pony with the horsehead nebula painted on the side!

I'm finding a theme is limiting but it's a good thing because it limits my scope so I don't end up wasting time and money on lots of pieces which don't make a complete outfit. I didn't start that way and now I'm trying to make a theme (persona actually) which fits with what I already have, and it's turning out to be a bit tricky.

Ah! And good news! My brother has a lovely gold pocketwatch he's letting me borrow for my outfit.

I'm trying to decide between pants or a skirt now. Hm! I'm planning to wear the outfit on a cold night. I'm thinking pants would be nice. But then I'm stumped when it comes to shoes--boots of course. But when I think about what I already have, my boots are limited. Also! since this is sorta my introduction thread, here's a picture of me, the way I look normally. Sorry for the side-ways. I just never bothered to switch it upright.

Ohhh, Kyrix had better look out, we have another steampunk fairy!  Wink

Funny you should mention boots. Spats and gaiters have been mentioned as ways to improve otherwise-indifferent boots in a couple of threads today. This one I remember: Spats with leggings?

Spats may be a good idea for me. Most of the shoes I own are pumps (I sorta have a fetish for them) or flats. I do have a black velvet anklette boot with some buttons on the side I may use.

And steampunk fairy? Not totally sure what qualifies me as one, but sounds good to me!

Welcome. Very lovely, my dear. I look forward to your outfit.
