I don't get to see the parade except on the youTube. It is awesome to watch how huge the parade has gotten and how good the costumes are. I am impressed on how well a group of volunteers can do. The crowd is big too. I think we are the third lagest parade in downtown Atlanta.

While a D*C regular I've never made the parade before (plans to participate this year were foiled when I had to make an emergency run to Sewanee during the parade time). I'm DEFINITELY planning to parade my brass off in 2010! Would be MIGHTY if some crafty fabricians could stencil up some cool flags for the SP section - would add much beyond the costumery...

To date, I've never been up early enough to see more than the very end of the parade, and usually not even that.

Then you don't need to give me your room number, cause I will TOTALLY wake your a$$ up to join in! You KNOW that parades make automatons twitchy - you MUST be there to prevent any unfortunate mechanical mishaps!

I'm actually forced to stay at one of the off-sight hotels this year. Its only a block or two away, and I did the walk once or twice last year with a buddy staying there, but I'm unsure yet how much the missus will appreciate the walk. Hopefully it won't be too much hassle, but that's probably got something to do with my animosity towards the football fans, and any other non-geeks wasting space in the host hotels.

In all seriousness, I stand a better chance of staying up for the parade, rather than getting up for it. I was averaging a 5:00 or 5:30 bed-down last year.

Than I would certainly suggest staying up for the parade. The more we have involved, the better. Unless you mean to just get up to watch it, which is fine also.

Umm, you sleep at Dragon*Con? It is a sleep optional weekend. I am the one crawling to my room on Monday night. They let you have a late check out on Tuesday morning.

I got tried of waking up listening to the grooves/noise makers on the side of the road when I drove home on Monday night.

I'm willing to do the parade. My only problem is getting a room- we waited too late, but we will figure out lodging. We're local, but it's much easier to be there the whole time.

Sometimes rooms availability opens up the closer you get to the con, but that's risky business.

We bought our tickets for this coming Dragon Con at last year's con- that's when it's cheapest...

That is the time to buy them. The hardest thing to keep up with the receipts. I just put them in my suit case in an envelope. I only go to conventions lately. So it there when I get to the venue. I never miss Dragon*Con and here lately I hang out at the Walk of Fame a lot!

I'm a new con goer and I was wondering how bad the traffic is getting to the con by car.

My parents live in Marietta so I was planning on staying with them and then driving back and forth every day.

Between the con, the football game, the NASCAR race, and I think another convention, I'd expect parking to be "challenging." Perhaps not as challenging as finding a hotel room, but you'll want to allow plenty of time. I can't speak to traffic, I always park it and leave it for the duration.

Speaking as an experienced con goer- when it comes to driving to and from the con, try to do the bus\train instead. The parking either will cost major $$ or be in a not so safe area. We usually stay in the area and park the car in a garage until we go home.

Honestly I've never tried to bring a car to Dragon when I didn't have a hotel to park it at. I've known folks to just walk up, so it can't be impossible, but I have no experience with what's entailed, how far out you'll end up parking, etc. There are garages all over the place with in a few blocks of the joint, so I would guess MARTAing into town might be a bit much.

Well according to the DragonCon site the hotels are connected directly to the train station under peachtree.

Oh, well, that might make things pretty easy then. Can't say, I've not used MARTA.
